I rented a midsize car from Thrifty to be picked up in Salt Lake City Airport. A seven day rental at $375.75 with one extra day added at $49.99. When checking out with the car I was surprised to see the total charge had risen to $583.30 Concession recovery fee ? $45.74
Cust FAC CHG ? $40.00
Vehicle lisence cost recovery $4.00
TAX at 17.25% $85.82
The car was new, clean and ready to go. I drove it a total of 293 miles
Due to bad weather our venue was cancelled so I returned the car after 5 days to same airport. I did not expect a refund but I did not expect a new billing amount of $827.29. Car was full of gas and in perfect condition.
New charges were
rental rate for 1 week $585.02
Concession recovery fee ? $68.06
Customer FAC ? charge $25.00
Vehicle lisence recovery fee $250.00
EARLY RETURN Fee $25.00
17.250% taxes $121.71
Total rental for 5days /293 miles =$827.29 . They rented out the car over the next 3 days and got paid double. What a scam. !
Last note. I am Canadian so all costs here are actually 30% higher for me due to exchange rates
Desired outcome: Reduce my rate to the weekly rental rate I agreed on . Refund the additional single day. Delete the $25.00 early return fine.
Thrifty Rent A Car - dishonest quotes
WARNING! Do not rent from this Thrifty! I think all their agents are trained on all the best ways to scam their customers. I rented a car over the holidays and was quoted $142.51 but charged 344.15. When I arrived I decided to add my son-in-law as a driver and she quoted that it would be an additional $75. They actually charged me $140. They charged me $52.33 for gas and only reimbursed me $25.37 even though I returned the car full. I had signed the contract, thinking that I would be paying what I was quoted so they won't help me out in the least bit. The agents work on commission so they will lie, cover the price with their hand, rush you through, and basically take advantage of their customers. I feel scammed and taken advantage of. They have lost this customer and we travel quite often, just over an extra 100 bucks in their pocket. When I called to report the discrepency their representative said "well you signed the contract." I guess I've learned my lesson to not trust the agent and look over the contract completely before I sign it.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
