I’ve been at the Applebee’s in Milltown NJ for a few months now and I have to say this is the absolute most toxic work environment I’ve ever been in. The managers are all a joke, they’re more concerned with doing drugs with employees & gossiping with teenagers than they are about doing their actual jobs. They pick favorites and when one of their favorites complain about someone that person ends up losing days and must needed hours. I’ve seen it happen 3 times now. A server, Jill, is allowed to pretty much do whatever she wants. She’ll come in hours late, if at all, she stays on the phone the ENTIRE shift whether it be FaceTime or having her AirPods in while simultaneously “serving” customers. No matter how many complaints she’s just allowed to do whatever she wants when she wants. She’ll have people waiting an HOUR for their food, which is ready and getting cold, while she’s sitting outside talking on the phone. The managers have no backbone & never even attempt to put their foot down. If you’re not one of their favorites they’ll treat you like absolute [censored] and walk all over you. They literally take orders from employees that have been there for 5 minutes just as long as it’s one of their favorites. I loved this job until I caught wind of everything going on behind the scenes, now I can’t believe I ever loved it let alone wanted this job. Nobody wears gloves or even washes their hands ESPECIALLY in the kitchen. I won’t ever eat from another Applebee’s and I’ve told my family and friends never ever go there. I’ve only ever seen things be done properly when there’s an inspector present then suddenly the whole store is wearing gloves and the menus are getting wiped down. It’s utterly disgusting & I would imagine it’s probably making some people sick since most have poor hygiene to begin with. I honestly don’t know how this store is still standing given the incompetence in the ENTIRE staff.
Desired outcome: Senior managers & supervisors need to be held accountable & store should be investigated
