National Tire & Battery [NTB] - Went in for an oil change and come out with transmission problems

On March 23 yesterday, I went in NTB College Rd Greensboro, NC for an oil change and asked them if they could check my brakes. I left my car with them because I didn’t have an appointment. I asked if they could call me when my car was ready. I never received a call. I called about 4 pm that evening and I was told it was ready and been sitting for quite some time. The lady asked the other guys if they had called me and their reply was yes when in fact they had not. I paid for the oil change and windshield wipers. Retrieved my key and proceed to leave. As I pulled out of the parking lot my car started to whine and the RPM was stuck longer than usual. Once it changed gears, the car started jerking or bucking. At that time, I immediately returned back to the shop (3 blocks down the road). I pulled in and the Manager asked what seems to be the problem. I told him and he gets in the car and drives it to see what I was talking about. He agreed that there was something wrong. In trying to troubleshoot, it was discovered that they emptying my transmission fluid out of my car instead of the oil and didn’t replace it or corrected the problem before driving the car out of the garage. Now I question did they actually change my oil. The manager put the transmission fluid back in and we drive it around to see if it would reset itself. Negative, it was not running the same. Still jerking (not so violently), whining and it still took longer than normal to change gears. I was then recommended to take it to another NTB Battleground Greensboro, NC across town the next day. The following morning (today) I took it there and they couldn’t do much (very nice and honest guys by the way). So now I have to take it to the dealership and see what they say. I am writing this complaint because I am really not satisfied with the hands off approach. It was a lot of “I” need to do instead of them taking responsibility and having it towed to the dealership. In other words, being more involved with fixing their screw up. The level of no one wanting to take responsibility for this issue until it was undoubtedly proven it was their fault is unbelievable. I suggest there be some type of incident report and some guidelines to follow when these things happen. Right now I don’t believe I should have been charge for an oil change that I am not sure it took place nor should I be out here chancing the drive to get it to the dealership. I am really not happy with this approach and to add insult to injury, they actually tried to cover it up.

Claimed loss: I don’t know, yet. I haven’t made it to the dealership. I will be calling them Monday March 25.

Desired outcome: My car running like it did prior to coming in for an oil change.
