I was just in the DG store, 2555 Orchard Lake Road, Sylvan Lake, Michigan.
I was asked by a young man there about a mask. I told him that I am exempt and told him that it was on the sign that masks are required UNLESS wearing one would be harmful. He walked away, I got my products and was at the cashier. There was no one around. I walked through the entire store looking for someone to wait on me. This has never happened before. I am always greeted and there is always someone to wait on me. That is until today.
When I finally found the same young man and told him I was ready to cash out, he said "I am not comfortable waiting on you." He had on a thick mask and he would have been behind a plexiglass barrier. And he had come within in 3 feet of unmasked me twice; once when he asked about the mask and once in an aisle. I told him of my exemption and I didn't have to tell him why, HIPPA. I asked about someone else waiting on me. He said maybe someone else would wait on me. There was no one else around. The one young man who confronted me was stocking shelves; at least he was doing something. But he should have been providing service. I have to presume the other young man was hiding in the stockroom. I told the two women behind me and who had masks on that he would not wait on me but he would them. Two suggestions: Make masks mandatory without exception and if someone has a health issue they can go somewhere else that will follow exemptions. Hire someone who is a grown up like the ones I am accustomed to. Interesting that the state of MI is finally opening back up after restrictions on everyone, everywhere for more than a year and you have some kid who is afraid of a 76 year old woman. I do intend to tell others of my unsavory treatment at DG.
