I'm a regular shopper at your Dollar Tree location of Summerfield. Just this early evening today, Friday, 4/17/20 at 4:10 p.m. I entered the store and picked up an empty shopping hand basket. I realized after entering the store I didn't have on my face mask (COVID 19), I subconsciously had the empty shopping hand basket in my hand as I went outside to place my mask on my face. I was standing off the side of the front door entrance as I was going in my purse for my face mask. The first $ tree associate (Black male) came outside where I was standing looked at me as he was bending down to take the empty hand shopping basket. I told the $ tree associate that was putting on my mask, but I'm coming back inside and he there left it alone. Within a few seconds after placing my mask on my face, another $ tree associate (Caucasian male) came outside and bend down and took the empty hand shopping basket back in the store and placed it with the other stacked baskets. I stated okay, lets try it again. I was directly behind the associate that placed the empty hand shopping basket back with the other stacked baskets. In a split second I picked back up the empty hand shopping basket that was taken and proceeded to do my shopping. First I want to state that both associates over reacted as if I was attempting to steal the empty shopping hand basket. I'm a frequent shopper at the Summerfield $ tree from day one when it was built on the pre-existing Beall's Shopping Center. The Caucasian associate I always thought nice of him every time I saw him in the aisleway stocking supplies, but how I was treated by his action put a sour taste in my mouth. I remember the Black associate as well who hadn't been there as long as the other associate. Khalil was the young $ tree associate who rang me out, poor Khalil had to hear me vent on what the two caused. I am a professional federal health care worker that was in my scrubs and federal photo badge that was tucked in my scrub pocket. I have a reputation to withhold as a professional and would not subject myself with such foolishness of stealing anything, especially at a $ tree. I commented to Khalil many of times I came to this $ tree, I've spent good money. If I have to steal, it wouldn't be from any damn Dollar Tree. I showed Khalil my federal badge (with my name and photo). Khalil apologized, but I simply told Khalil, that it's not his fault. I'm not one to cause a scene, but you both associates acted poorly and could've gone about it in a different fashion and spare me the embarrassment. If I feel the need to steal anything (which I certainly wouldn't' have to do) I would do it like Bernie Madoff.
