Subway - not sanitary

I have gone in frequently to the Circle K to make purchases for gas. I use to eat at the Subway there however have stopped. There are always several flies flying around the cut up vegetables and meat. I heard there is a fly zapper in the back however it is not doing the job. I once overheard 2 employees talking about having to throw food away due to the flies getting into the tuna and chicken salad, I suppose that I should be happy they threw it out but the thought strikes me there may be times some lazier employees did not. I also notice that several employees change gloves but do not wash there hands. They are on the register dealing with money then just slip some cheap plastic gloves on. Is this sanitary?

What the hell is your problem! What do you think they made hand washing sinks for [censored]! Do you have flies? Would you want to eat a sandwich that a fly has landed on, didn't think so. I don't give a crap what time of the year it is, they have all sorts of ways to catch flies and food is not one of them! Is that a way to deal with these flies? How do you know that everyone is disposing of it properly when the flies land it! I know what i am complaining about here! Get a clue, because i got one! So don't come on here and insult my intelligence!

Yes I agree Brenda I was addressing Mr Stealth and his advisement it does not matter. And how he called the poster uneducated based on his opionion. I wanted to make note that if it didn't matter as long as the glove is clean then why do others bother washing. Perhaps because as the original poster said it does matter.

I would like to add there is a a dude working there with the long hair and he doesn't put it up or wear a hairnet. In reading the first response I would have to say though the manner of thinking may be as long as the dude has clean hair it is ok and of course as long as his hair does not get into anything then it is ok. As for the whole glove issue. If it didn't matter if hands were clean or dirty as long as the glove was new and clean then why do doctors bother scrubbing up before putting on their gloves? Do they not know it doesn't matter as long as the change gloves? Perhaps they aren't as educated either.

Hand washing and glove use isn't an either/or type of situation. If you put on gloves with your dirty hands, the outside of the glove is contaminated and can be transferred to your food. If you wash your hands for 5 seconds with any old soap with luke warm water before handling food with your hands, it's unlikely you killed any germs.

It's a general consensus that glove usage is for 'public comfort' and to protect foreign objects from falling into food (like fingernails, dry skin, chipped nail polish). Don't ask me to google it for you, the studies are easily accessible.

The fly thing is a different story.. if it was a one time thing, I'd let it go. [censored] happens, and at least you can see it happening at Subway. Flies get in through the doors.. a small leak that occurred over night can lead to discarded food for a few days (pests bread in standing water).. but if it happens more than once in a week's worth of time, I'd avoid them. They clearly don't know how to pinpoint and eliminate pest problems.
