I went into the goodwill in ventura, CA on thompson blvd yesterday and I wasn't wearing a mask because I have a medical condition that prohibits me from wearing one. a worker came up to me and told me "you have to wear a mask" and I said "oh I actually have a medical condition and I can't wear one" then he told me that if I didn't put a mask on I had to leave. I told him he can't just kick me out because I have a medical condition and he ACTUALLY asked me "what medical condition?" I was so upset. I told him he was not allowed to ask that because it's a violation of HIIPA and he walked away and told the other lady who was working. she came up and told me the same thing how I need to wear a mask and if I don't I have to leave and I told her I had a medical condition and I can't wear a mask. she said "welll then you need to wear a shield or something" and I said "okay that's fine, do you have one I can wear?" and she said "no, you have to purchase that yourself."
I kept shopping and she walked away, then came back about 5 minutes later and told me that if I didn't leave she was going to call security. it was so ridiculous and extremely rude. according to the Americans with Disabilities Act, businesses are required to accommodate you if you have a medical condition that prohibits you from wearing a mask AND they are not allowed to ask what medical condition it is that you have. I am extremely upset and disappointed with my experience here. they were both extremely rude and didn't care to accommodate me. I thought goodwill's whole thing was supporting people with disabilities? apparently not.
Desired outcome: change of policy/employees talked to
