FULL ON SCAM!
FULL ON SCAM! Contacted by the "Landlord" and stated that we had been selected for the house for rent at ***. Wanted us to send one months rent via Friends and Family *** without signing a lease nor did we even view inside of the house. Never met anyone - all done through email. Called the police and we were several people with a complaint. Thankfully we did not pay anything.
I applied for a listing for a rental on ***
I applied for a listing for a rental on ***. I was subsequently put in contact with a person claiming to be the land owner, convinced of their identity, and subsequently SCAMMED out of the money for what I thought was my deposit. Turbo tenant DOES NOT adequately screen their listings, nor do they have an obvious way to report scams once the listing is taken down. USE THIS WEBSITE WITH THE UPMOST CAUTION.

It has been great for me as a landlord. Only complaint is that I have had issues logging in for about two weeks and I have not been able to get a reply email back from anyone trying to solve my issue. They used to have great communication. I wonder what happened to that?
If you are a tenant the software is difficult to operate. the landlord in my case did not respond with any status even after I submitted the $45 fee. Finally he responded after I cancelled my application, saying he bad "hundreds" of applicants for a run down building in a not so savory part of town. Very disappointed.
Working through TurboTenant was OK until recently. About 6 months ago we had some really unexplained deposits made from tenants into our account (I am a landlord). After investigating, it turned out that the correct TOTAL sum deposits were made but there was no explanation as to why they were not in the amounts of the payments from our tenants. The next problem occurred at the beginning of the month (March 2022) when my email, telephone, and text messaging was inundated with calls on my properties. TurboTenant had them all put on the market for rent, and I DID NOT authorize any of that mess. We are still getting calls and texts from folks wanting to rent our properties, even though none of them are available and none of them should be marketed for rent. The most recent problem with TurboTenant is that only one out of five rent payments has made it into my bank account. I am currently in the process of running this down, but the payments should have been deposited over a week ago. We have experience way too many significant issues with this company and never would have started a business relationship with them had we known how vulnerable they were to hackers and other forms of corruption. We are currently waiting on the reply as to where our rental income was deposited.
I applied for a home
I applied for a home. Right after it was confirmed that the home was still available by their sight. I called the landlord and found that in fact it was not on the market still. That a deposit was already made on the home. I was charged $45 for nothing. I have requested an email back from them regarding a refund. Have yet to have a response. If my application is to not be reviewed (the service you are paying for, background check, etc) a refund should be applied.

I paid a $45.00 application fee because the ad said you have a better chance of getting the apartment if you completed the application
I paid a $45.00 application fee because the ad said you have a better chance of getting the apartment if you completed the application. I did that, never even was contacted to see the place i was interested in renting and then a day later told i was not chosen for the rent. I never even got to see the place to see if i truly wanted to rent it. This is a total scam! They took my $45.00 without me even meeting anyone or seeing the place! They will not refund my money.
Applied for a place on 7/24 paid $90 for myself and my girlfriend. Called landlord after I applied and she stated she does not like for people to apply through turbo tenant because she does not see any of that application fee money and would prefer for a person to come see place and apply directly through her and pay her. Sounds like some kind of scam to me. We are looking for a September 1st move in but she stated she is trying to rent unit sooner than that 7/25 is the available date and if there is a application that gets approved and has a move in date sooner than ours that she will give the place to them first. I would like my full refund of $90 seeing that she will not hold the place till September 1st and that she would prefer us to have came to see the place and applied directly through her and pay her so she could pocket some of the application fee money instead of applying through turbo tenant and turbo tenant getting the application fee money. There is no telling how many other people have applied for the unit on turbo tenant and maybe loosing out on money because the landlord is on some sneaky stuff. If our move in date does not coincide with when the landlord is wanting to rent the unit no need to run our application then and a refund should be refunded. Looking for housing and paying application fees are stressful enough now having to file a complaint and send emails to get a refund is even more stressful.
Maybe it's "free" but it sucks. You have to be so overly cautious on turbo tenant because apparently they haven't figured out how to weed out all the scams!
Turbo tenants has to be the worst site to go on to find an apartment
Turbo tenants has to be the worst site to go on to find an apartment. When your file a application and pay your $45.00 fee. You don't get an answer whether or not you could come see the apartment and when you try to text them back to get a response you get ignored. Finally when they do answer you the apartment is already filled you're not even getting any opportunity to come check out the place or even knowing that you are even a candidate for the apartment. They just don't answer you at all. I wonder whether or not it was a scam the whole time. I would like my $45 back because I feel like I was cheated.

I work for a non-profit assisting homeless families with housing and used this service to assist a client with applying for a unit after doing so the landlord reached out and stated they removed the listing and are not going to move forward with renting out the unit, when I contacted Turbotenant they directed me to their disclaimer about the funds not being refundable due to the work on their end? Really? You provided NO service to me and I did not even get the opportunity to apply for anything, in essence Turbotenant stole money for a service not rendered. You can't collect money from an applicant and not run an application in the city I live so operating in this way poses many legal questions. I will not be surprised the day I learn someone has filed a class action suit against your company, the way you prey on those looking for a rood over their head is DISGUSTING!

In February 2022, I found a single family home for lease on an online platform
In February 2022, I found a single family home for lease on an online platform. The listing directed applicants to apply through Turbo Tenant with an application fee of $45. After submitting my application and fee, I received no response. I contacted Turbo Tenant and spoke with a representative who was initially unaware of my application. Upon locating it, he informed me that the listing was for a roommate situation, not a single family home as advertised. I was not aware of this and requested a refund, as no credit check had been conducted. The representative refused and abruptly ended the call. I disputed the charge with my bank and it was reversed, but later reinstated in April 2022. I disputed the charge again, emphasizing that no services were rendered. Turbo Tenant insisted the fee was non-refundable. The advertisement was misleading, and the representative's conduct was unprofessional. I urge Complaintsboard.com to investigate Turbo Tenant for deceptive practices and poor customer service. I advise potential renters to avoid Turbo Tenant, as they appear to engage in unethical behavior without remorse and provide inadequate customer support.
I found a apartment I could actually afford and filled out the application
I found a apartment I could actually afford and filled out the application. Per the instructions I paid my application fee of $45. I felt confident that this was a legit advertisement because I found the listing on ***. With that in mind I submitted my application fee and received a email from Turbo Tenant confirming my payment. I waited for a couple hours to hear from the whoever was advertising the property but heard nothing. I attempted to contact the number in the ad for the property and it just rings and rings. Then I attempted to contact the "Landlord" number and received a message "this number is not set up for inbound calling". I emailed Turbo Tenant: Good afternoon, I submitted a payment via you site for a property in ***. This was done this morning and I have heard nothing from the person who placed this add on Apartments.com. My question to you is can anyone use your site to process application fees? Do you screen for SCAMMERS? Please advise - as I think I may have been Scammed. Turbo Tenant's Response: Hello, Thank you for reaching out. We take real estate fraud extremely seriously. Properties marketed through Turbo Tenant undergo a verification process, but there's always the possibility something could sneak through. Can you expand on why you feel the listing or landlord is fraudulent? Did you contact the landlord prior to applying or submitting fees to confirm availability, verify rental criteria and discuss the application approval process? My response: Thank you for your response, The contact number in the ad and it just rings and rings and does not give you the option of leaving a message which is kind of odd. Called the Landlord's number stating "this number is not set up for inbound calling". I did not contact the landlord prior to submitting my $45 application fee. I just got so excited to see a rental I could actually afford. That is on me. I am chalking it up to a loss. It is just really sad that these people prey on people such as myself. I would encourage you to investigate some more on your end. I am not expecting a refund or anything. I just don't want this to happen to anyone else. Thank you, Turbo Tenant's Response: Thanks for your feedback, Many of our landlords receive hundreds of inquires daily on their properties, so they choose to use *** Voice or another sort of VOIP. With these phone numbers, it technically meets the requirements of our listing partners but the account owners can choose to only use the number for outbound calls, only receive voicemails or text, etc. I've included an article to help you with your ongoing home search: How to Recognize and Avoid Scams in Rental Housing Check out these simple tips to keep your rental experience safe and fraud-free! Ok. Where is Turbo Tenants as well as Apartments.com accountability here? Never again. I hope this post is read and take seriously. Look it is not the $45 I am worried about - its the fact that there are business out there that don't screen as well as they should or maybe they just to give a crap. It's a very sad world we live in today!

Apartment Hunt Turns Suspicious with Unreachable Landlord and Potential Scam
Searching for an apartment, I found one on a popular online marketplace. The landlord, Arthur B, required a Turbo Tenant Application with a $45 fee, submission of ID and paystubs. After complying, Arthur directed me to another company demanding an additional $100. Suspicious, I discovered Turbo Tenant doesn't affiliate with them, and Arthur's number is now disconnected. Fearing for my family's identity safety, I've tried contacting Turbo Tenant, only to be met with instructions to email, which I've done. An investigation into this matter is urgently needed.

I submitted an application and paid a $45 application fee for a property that is not actually for rent. I was provided a fake phone number for the "landlord" and was never contacted by anyone once I paid. This company is a scam. I would like a refund and for the listing to be removed so that this doesn't happen to anyone else. I tried to get in contact with customer service via TurboTenant's website multiple times but no one ever responded to me. The address of the property is as follows:
My wife and I are in the process of renting a home. We are working with a Realtor that is helping us find properties. She sent us the listing for a property located at ***. After going through the application and paying a $45 application fee. The lister double charged our account and immediately removed the listing from Turbotenant. I have attempted to reach out to turbotenant via their listed phone number but only get automated messages before the line goes dead and have not been able to speak to a person. Requesting a full refund of both charges in a total amount of $90. No other form of resolution will be acceptable.
My wife and I submitted an application through Turbo Tenant for a lease to own property
My wife and I submitted an application through Turbo Tenant for a lease to own property. The property ID is *** at ***. The application fee was $45.00 which was processed through our bank on 9/26. This property is managed by *** in Rustburg, VA. Several attempts have been made to contact the property owner and TurboTenant with no return reply. We met all the requirements for this property with the down payment and ability to pay the monthly required rent to own lease. I left another message yesterday stating that I planned to file a complaint with the Complaintsboard.com and suddenly we were denied on the application. I feel that this was an attempt to take my $45.00 with no intention of renting or leasing this property. This property has been available since August with multiple applicants being denied for no reason. I would like to simply have my $45.00 refunded to me.

Turbotenanr has fraud and scam listings. My home is listed as an apartment for rent through this site and now it was gone to many other sites. However, this home is not for rent, and now random people are coming to our door asking about this apartment. Turbotenant needs to screen whoever is listing these address and Im quite surprised that they let this happen without an area for someone to report fraud on their own website, whether a renter or homeowner.
I submitted an application for a rental at *** on 04-26-2022 after checking its availability. I paid the $45 application fee on TurboTenant, and was excited to view the space. After my rental application was received, I tried to set up a date to tour the property via TurboTenant's messaging system. When I got no response, I also reached out to the landlord via phone and email. However, the landlord still never replied to me. I could not find a way to file a complaint through TurboTenant's website. For the sake of other students looking at properties in this area, I'd like this rental taken down and would appreciate my money returned. I am very disappointed with this experience and hope that this was not a scam. Thank you.
We used TurboTenant to list a rental property - I have now had my name and contact information stolen and used to list many properties across the country as rentals requesting money for a background check. I am now dealing with hundreds of emails and phone calls from people asking for their money back for listings that have nothing to do with me. TurboTenant has not responded to my inquiry as to how this can be resolved. It is clear that they are very easily hacked and now I am dealing with the fallout. I would like TurboTenant to resolve this ASAP.
I am a healthcare traveler, I applied for an apartment through Turbotenant on April 22th through Marcus H. Marcus H offered me a One Bedroom furnished apartment and is ready to move in. Then he told me that the process would be through Turbotenant. Security Deposit of $1347.50, First Month's rent $2695, Parking fee $175 that included "a garage". He also charged me for month of April $179.66. Sum total of $4,408.83. All of these payments were through Turbotenant. Sum total $4408.83. A couple days prior to move in date, Marcus called and asked if i had applied for a Studio. Which made no sense because we literally spoke on the phone and agreed for the One bedroom apartment. He promised me to get movers so i can get out of the studio to the other apartment. He kept delaying his deadline. The studio was too small for me and this was bad business on him. He kept blaming his assistant for not getting the apartment stocked up with amenities. I was really upset because I already paid this huge amount of money for him to comply with the needs with the agreement we came too, There was no contract or lease for this stay. Move in day was Saturday April 30 and Move out was April 4th. I told him to refund me my money. He only refunded me $1264.66 because he states that he needed to buy another property unit for me. He did not refund me the first month's rent of $2695. I reached out to Turbotenant i expressed my concern about this situation. On May 6, Samantha from Turbotenant stated that "landlord user has been with TurboTenant for a while and I'm not seeing any indicators of fraud on their account, but I've passed your comments onto our security team to review. If there's anything else we can assist with, please let us know." May 18, Marcus H did not attend his court hearing for six counts of eviction worth of $60000. I am just as surprised that Turbotenant did not run a background check on him and would let someone like Marcus H scam hard working people.
I saw a place on *** that said it was available for my time frame
I saw a place on *** that said it was available for my time frame. Both me and my sister applied for the unit and was told it'd process in 3 days. 3 days later we never heard back so I emailed the supposed landlord to figure if our application was received, no replies. 5 days later called and called again no answer. I decided to reach to turbotenants.com and was sent an email to fill out a form so I did, only to get a reply saying sorry you agreed to the conditions. Yes I agreed to the conditions when I thought I was applying with an honest company that would understand that the landlord not only has my $90 but all my personal informations including my daughter's and sister's. I agreed when I thought the landlord or turbotenant would have the decency to refund my money because the service promised was not delivered. It has been now 17 days since I applied I haven't heard anything from the landlord and all turbotenant told me was too bad!
I submitted an application for a rental @ *** on [protected]. I paid the $45 app fee. I was invited to a showing on Sunday April 3 @ 2pm. I arrived at 1:45pm that day and Noone showed up. I called all the numbers that were listed and they all had been disconnected. I emailed the contact I had and did not get a response. I messaged on turbo tenant and got no response. I filed a complaint with turbo tenant and no response. I would like the rental taken down and would like my money returned. I was scammed! Thank you
I found a home that I was interested in. I contacted the number to turbo tenant and was advised that I had to fill out the application and pay the $45 fee. I went and saw the inside of the home. It was sold as is with $2000 down. I filled out all the paperwork, sent in statements and paystubs. I have a friend that built his own house that then went to look at the house with me so he could see what all the house needed. I was ready to put the money down and he was going to do all the repairs free of charge. I would just pay for the supplies. I was to provide a letter in writing to explain what I wanted to do the house for it to be repaired to live in. After weeks of back and forth, two trips to the house, I was told I didn't make enough money. I work full time, my wife receives SSI, and food stamps. However, I don't have enough income. I am furious. They wasted my time and took my 45$! Ridiculous. The cost of the monthly house payment is less than what i will end up paying for rent! Buyer beware!
I applied for an condo on Turbo Tenant website and paid $45.00 for the application fee. My application was not processed for a background check or credit report. After paying the fee and uploading a copy of my passport and social security card . I get an email the next day that my application was not chosen and a lot of people applied for this condo. When I try to call the TurboTenant number ***, there is no option to speak to anyone. I tried going on the website chat and it takes a long time for anyone to respond back. I believe I was scammed by TurboTenant and I want my money back.
I believe Turbo Tenant is committing fraud by collecting $45.00 application fee and not doing background check or credit report . I paid this company $45.00 for an application fee to cover a background check and credit report cost. Turbo Tenant did not do a background check or requested my credit report, and the next day I get an email the property I applied for is no longer is available. I believe I was scammed . TurboTenant phone number, *** does not provide option to speak to an agent. The online chat is also not available and take long time for someone to reply. I would like a refund.

Date of the beginning of the transaction for the rental property took place on August 29th
Date of the beginning of the transaction for the rental property took place on August 29th. I saw this property listed on turbotenant.com and sent the supposed owner a notice on if the property was still available to rent he said it was not but that he had the property at *** available. He then asked for an application/admin fee of 50 dollars for each applicant which was my wife and I so spent 100 dollars on August 29th for the background check. The day after he tells me the good news that we passed the background check and that we were all good to continue with the application process. He sent me a lease agreement for my wife and I to look over and sign and after we did we signed it, sent to him and he then requested a deposit for the house. The price for the deposit was first and last month's rent in order for me to place a hold on the house for a total of 2200 dollars. The house wasn't his but owned by a realty company.

On Feb 1st I applied for housing through turbo Tennant. My debit card was charged $45. I never heard from the landlord or anyone else. I went on to turbo tenant's website and tried to log on, the response was that my email was invalid and I had no account. I have rented elsewhere since I never heard form anyone, the landlord has never returned my calls. I feel the $45 was fraud, because I never received any response from the land lord and turbo Tennant says my email is not on file, but I was still charged.
My tenant paid $45,00 to Turbo Tenant. For that fee Turbo Tenant was to provide to me (Landlord) a background report and a credit report to evaluate this applicant as a prospective tenant. Turbo Tenant has never furnished the two reports to me as they advertised they would do for the $45.00 fee. My numerous emails to them have never been answered nor have they furnished the reguired tenant screening reports they were to send to me.
My account as a landlord was hacked in the middle of the night at 2am. They changed my email and password and even sent a verification code to my business phone all at 252am. I cannot get into my account and nobody will answer my attempts to contact them I want some one to call me ASAP
I found a place I wanted to rent on the Turbotenant website and clicked on the unit. I communicated with the landlord first, on 2/28/22 and he said he would have available unit in June. On March 1, 2022, I filled out the application that they said would go to the landlord and was charged $45. I was then asked specific questions to have my credit checked by turbotenant to give to the landlord. On March 6, i asked if he got my application. He said he never received my information from turbotenant. The landlord didn't even know that turbotenant was charging application fees. He had his own free application that he used. We communicated through turbotenant and made a meeting to see a similar unit and filled out his application and I was accepted. Turbotenant did nothing except steal my personal information and money. The landlord said he couldn't access any of it through turbotenant...makes no sense. I can't even find the application I submitted! Why isn't this service set up to go through the landlord first? It is like a scam to get you into the system and then do nothing for either the tenant or the landlord.
This business consistently fails to screen landlords to see if the person listing a home for rent is actually the owner of the home
This business consistently fails to screen landlords to see if the person listing a home for rent is actually the owner of the home. Scammers often list homes for rent they do not own on TurboTenant's website. This is a very common occurrence and complaint it seems. TurboTenant always replies to these complaints with a boilerplate "TurboTenant is not a listing service or a property management company as we only provide tools to help landlords run their rental business" but they are aiding and abetting scammers. That canned response they always give should NOT absolve them of any responsibility. Ultimately best case scenario the victim is out JUST the application fee paid to TurboTenant but worst case scenario the scammer "approves" their application and then fraudulently collects deposits or rent. TurboTenant needs a SCREENING process for landlords who list with them, otherwise they are lending legitimacy to scammers. How can you screen tenants but not listers themselves?

Was sent to turbotenant to apply for home at ***
Was sent to turbotenant to apply for home at ***.paid the $45 and applied.I included a letter of recommendation from my landlord & copy of my US passport!I also asked many times w/o response where I could send him proof of me paying my rent from 2 weeks to 2 months Early every single month for the last 16 months. Sounds like a great candidate right? I mean who wouldn't want a tenant that can prove that they have paid rent early for the past 16 months and never been evicted etc. Anyway, I kept messaging & no response, finally I asked if a decision had been made and was told that all 31 applicants were in the owners hands and that he would be making a decision. That was nearly a month ago and I've messaged and no response and now the house is back on the market on a different site. I have been scammed out of money and personal information. This is not right.People are desperate trying to find homes in this market and we are taken advantage of. Terrible!

On April 4, I had inquired about a property for rent through this company and a man named Keith H. Mr. H was using turbotenant to manage a property he has advertised on a marketplace. The instructions said if I wanted to apply, I need to upload various documents and pay $45.00 for a background/credit check. I did all this and messaged Mr. H that I complied and uploaded the information he needed. He said nothing else but informed me he could not hold the apartment until June 1. He needed it rented now. I messaged him and stated okay if you can't hold it do not run my information through. Today, April 5, I received a message from Mr. H that he did not ask me to upload or pay for anything and he had nothing to do with it and owed me nothing but is working with this company to get prospective tenants. I have been charged $45.00 and was told it was not refundable. I have emailed turbotenant.com twice. It has been 24 hours and I have not received any report of acceptance or denial or even a credit report. Turbotenant is only available online for disputes and Mr. H has disabled all messages from me. I believe I have been scammed and I want my $45.00 refunded back to my bank card.

I am a healthcare traveler, I applied for an apartment through Turbotenant on April 22th through Marcus H***

In February 2022, I came across a listing for a single family property available for lease on a certain website. The listing directed interested parties to apply for the property through Turbo Tenant and mentioned an application fee of $45. I proceeded to apply and paid the fee. However, after not hearing back from Turbo Tenant, I contacted them a few days later to confirm they had received my application and to inquire about its status. I spoke with a representative named Mr. [Name Redacted] who initially seemed unaware of my application but eventually located it. He then inquired if I was aware that the advertisement was actually seeking a roommate for the single family home, contrary to what the listing had stated. I responded that I was not aware of this discrepancy and expressed my disinterest in proceeding, requesting a refund since a credit check had not yet been conducted. Mr. [Name Redacted] abruptly refused and ended the call by hanging up on me.
Following this interaction, I contacted my bank to dispute the charge, and it was initially reversed, only to be reinstated in April 2022. I disputed the charge once more, emphasizing that services were never rendered as no credit check had been performed on me. A Dispute Claims representative informed me that Turbo Tenant maintains their application fee is non-refundable, which would be understandable had a credit check been carried out, which in my case, it had not. The advertisement was false and misleading, and the representative's conduct was unprofessional and rude.
I am urging Complaintsboard.com to investigate this organization, as I believe it is operating a scam by posting false and misleading rental advertisements and displaying a lack of professionalism, failing to provide the services for which they charge. I advise potential renters to avoid Turbo Tenant, as they seem to be unapologetically taking money without delivering the promised services, and their customer service is severely lacking.
FULL ON SCAM! Contacted by the "Landlord" who stated that we had been selected for the house for rent at a specified location. Wanted us to send one month's rent via a Friends and Family payment method without signing a lease, nor did we even view the inside of the house. Never met anyone - all communication was done through email. Called the police and discovered we were among several people with a complaint. Thankfully, we did not pay anything.
I found 2 homes an applied for them both ive reached out to both property owners an still have not gotten a response. After doing reach on the properties those properties are for sale on different sites not lease. I need a refund back on both properties because this is a SCAM.
