I've been using this app for years, and appreciate how handy it is to have when I need to scan something I only have in hard copy, and need to email or upload the result.

I especially like the flexibility of the cropping tool - if only every cropping tool also magnified the area you're dragging. Makes it easy to be exact, with no need for a separate magnifying tool.

I've tried Evernote's Scannable app, and while it's got a modern UI it's nowhere as good functionally as this, other than a potentially cool feature that starts annoyingly by default - as soon as anything comes into focus, it snaps the camera and flash. Theoretically you'd be able to quickly scan a stack of business cards, tax forms, top secret floor plans of the Death Star (including the location of Darth Vader's hidden duck call collection) , etc.

That could be a nice feature to add to TurboScan for some occasions, but it's not something I need often.

I still return to TurboScan because it's reliable and simple to use.

The app asked me to rate it...I guess we both forgot I'd already done that. The app, at least, has an excuse, since I reset the phone last month, clearing all app settings. Anyhow- TurboScan is as great as ever. 6 stars!

Some years ago I had some paper works that need to be fax, since I dont have a fax (nor does anyone I know) I decided to purchased this gem. I was able to send this important paperwork via email in a PDF file that anyone can open, plus when the files are too large, it will give you options to send it in a smaller format. I am also in nursing school and we have a lot of paperworks and legal documents that needs to be sent to updated for our credentials (some every quarter and some yearly) this app has been a life saver and it is so easy to use. The BEST or BONUS part about this app is that all of my credentials and important documents are saved on my phone and right under my finger tips. When someone needs to see my HIV education certification all I have to do is open my APP and send them a PDF copy. I have my money worth with this app. I just wish that I could open this app on my computer in order for my access all my items. But it's not a big deal cause I can always just send the file to myself in a PDF format. While at nursing school, I was able to demostrate the usefullness of this APP and had convince half of my class to get the APP.
IN SHORT, THIS APP IS A MUST HAVE FOR ALL, SO EASY TO USE AND WORTH THE $4.99.

TurboScan is one of the most useful apps I've purchased for my iPhone. I was skeptical at first that I would be able to use my iPhone camera as a document scanner, but it actually works quite well. It may not be the best choice for full-page documents with small type, but you can get pretty decent results in most cases. Works great for smaller documents like business cards and receipts, which I use it for all the time. Best of all, I like that you can make scans anywhere, anytime, and not just when I'm at my computer. Much faster, easier, and more convenient than a traditional scanner.

The app is pretty easy to use; just take a picture of the document, adjust the frame, and you get a preview of your scan. From there you can rotate it, adjust the brightness/darkness, and choose between b&w, color, and photo. Once you have it looking the way you want, you can rename the file, choose a size (letter, legal, business card, receipt, etc… unfortunately you can't configure a custom size), and add additional pages if you wish. Then you can e-mail your file to yourself or a friend, save it to Evernote or Dropbox (VERY useful!), or open it in a PDF reader like iBooks or Good Reader.

Not bad for a $2 app. I would recommend it.

I've been using TurboScan for 4 years now and don't think I could live without it at this point. Beats a dedicated feed-thru scanner in speed and price, matches it in quality, and does document organization to boot.

I am confident that I can do a single page scan in less than 5 seconds. I don't think I've seen a feed thru that goes that fast.

This is software with a particular use: Make working, readable copies of documents. Not for archival, but for quick use.

I don't use the "SureScan 3x" feature at all. Most scans I do, I'm doing it for convenience and later reading, don't really care to stand around and take three shots. It's rare that a scan is blurry, and you can almost always see it on the preview. It might be a problem if you have severe hand tremors, but even with slight hand shaking it's solid.

Stability is very good; not perfect, but I haven't had to reload the app lately. I did a 100-page document this afternoon. While there was a little weirdness with app switching, it all cleared up without having to relaunch.

But the most important part of this software isn't the scanning, but the intuitive document organization. Without it, your scans would just be a worthless jumble of image files. This app delivers in all ways.

I love my job, but I HATE submitting expenses and receipts. I cannot tell you how much time and effort this app saves me when it comes to that "time of the month."

The Sure Scan feature indeed makes the three pictures I take with my iphone look identical to scans with my Neat scanner. Not that I need to use it. A single snap is fine, and I simply add one receipt at a time to my monthly document, then email the whole thing as one PDF. The receipt scans are clear because I take them at the point of origin, before it becomes folded or faded. They are in chronological order because I take them in order, as they come, so I can easily use them to enter data into my payroll system.

I used to take a half hour or more to unfold, put in order and scan my receipts at the end of the month. Invariably I would loose one or two, or they would be illegible due to being in a pocket or backpack. Now I take a few seconds to snap a pic when I get the receipt, then at the end of the month, what took a half hour or more takes 10-20 seconds. This app and the iPhone were made for each other. No regrets. Wonderful wonderful app.
A Dropbox option would be nice, though. Or an option export multiple scans as individual files. But as is, a nearly perfect app. Thanks, whoever made this.

I have never written a review before but this product is worth it. My husband and I are moving to a new city. We decided to make an offer on a condo. This requires a whole lot of paperwork during the negotiation process. We found ourselves in a predicament, we did not have access to a scanner or fax machine and needed to submit many pages of a contract to our seller's agent before the offer expired. I downloaded this application and was impressed by the quality of the scans. They looked like I had scanned these documents from a professional scanner connected to my computer. Quite honestly, I think I will use this will replace the scanner I use currently. The application is super easy to use and with the iPhone's high resolution camera, documents or images are captured in high resolution. I also love the fact that this application allows users to send these documents in email attachment form using a variety of extension types. I see a great potential for using this application for numerous on – the – go business transactions. Best purchase I have made in a long time!

One user note: I suggest placing documents on blank contrasting surfaces such as white paper on a dark couch. This aids the application in image capture by easily outlining the border of the document.

I am a scan-a-holic! I used to save up a file of things to scan, and then do them all at once. That often delayed completion of certain tasks and communication to other people. I am now able to execute on tasks immediately. I can't tell you how much I appreciate this app.

I use this app six out of seven days a week. It is easy to use & dependable. Like so many others, I was always running to a scanner at work or home, and that in itself was a little bit of a hassle. When I had been mobile, and given something that I needed to scan, I was always carrying around a folder with me to scan those documents later. With this app, I now scan them immediately, for example in a meeting, and distribute those notes before I even leave the meeting! Just this one application, has probably save me 30 to 45 minutes a day!

I have not used my home scanner since I got this app. I manage the finances for my elderly parents, plus I have several other business documents that I track. This app has allowed me to take care of paperwork immediately. If you are a GTD'r ("getting things done"), this fits into the "do it now, 2-minute" category.

This tool has been a tremendous productivity increase for me. I recommend a couple of times a week to different friends. I am using it when iPhone 5s.

As of Jan 2017 my iPhone after new update had no "carrier" settings, thus no connection. I hadn't synced via iTunes backup of scan docs. Finally restored, 3 months back. New month receipts were gone, and no originals, as thrown away. Anyway my point is, the new option of backing up to iCloud is excellent. I do now on a regular basis all files, and adds only new ones interpreting existing and adding new. I have some more ideas for improvement, but I am appreciative of "you" the developer for continued progress! My go to program for on the road receipts!

After last update, easier access to controls easier.
Still looking for better compression when I scan a lot of pages, say 50 to 100, the file size is just too big. Still though for my receipts on the go, and then PDF it to my company program Concur, it "plays well".

With the update, selection of camera, scan, go back, and not have to select again, and shoot,is a real plus.

Size though, even when going for lowest setting, still yields a big file size say of 150 pages.

Way over 10meg size.
So if trying to email, no can do. I know, the Dropbox, or whatever is a workaround, but would like to see compression capability as we move ahead.

Like others have said though, for receipts and document scanning, it's all I use.

And no crashes.

I have used Turbo Scan now for several years - it is great. I use it to scan large blue prints 22" x 34" and can then email it or print on smaller paper. This app lets you "frame" or crop in order to pick segments of a document/picture. Other scanners are not user friendly for scanning large prints or even a "white board" and then print on letter size paper. Don't waste time and money on other apps ( I have tried several others and they can't compare to this one).
A previous update removed the ability to scan a "white board" from a distance with clarity. Current scanned image is very small and framing is difficult and then making the image larger is not clear. Previously I could zoom in on distant white board, then frame - image was very good. Would like to see this as an option. Currently I am using an iPhone 6+.
I still rate this app as a 5 star.

I asked for the return of the "zoom in" feature and the technical department responded. It helps with whiteboard scans or large sized drawings that would be difficult or impossible to get a good scan. If rating scale went higher than 5 it would see a 10 from me. The other updates that were made has truly made this the best scanner on the market.

I've been using the TurboScan app for abt 2yrs and couldn't b more pleased with it. LOVE that I can scan things such as my tax documents; which it then converts to a PDF; & then I can email them to my CPA,..all within minutes,..and without leaving my couch.
Overall functionality is excellent,..offering features such as "Send as PDF", JPEG, color option, darken or lighten color/b&w, scan multiple items and store under a single file name, excellent image/doc reproduction quality, unlike other scanners I've used, THIS ONE HAS NO ISSUES WITH inability to bring doc/img into focus. IT has nice & neat file storage,.. offers to snap 3 photos/scans and automatically chooses the best 1 of 3,..you can scan item and u can send (to yourself or other) right then and there via email,.. Also crop/zoom/adjust/ straighten before saving or sending,..can scan larger docs such as 11x17, WITHOUT losing quality of doc,...stores items seamlessly for easy access later on (I have some important docs stored for the last 2yrs),...
more functional/accessible/ reliable scanner than any bulky machine my company has in-house.
All updates, so far, have only improved or added to the functioning,..unlike some apps that crash or lose functionality after updating.
I have told many friends and encouraged all my coworkers to get this app. Worth the small change investment!

This is an excellent productivity tool especially for those who are on the road a lot and need to scan documents. I initially used it on my iPad to scan documents that wouldn’t fit through my high-speed scanner or even on a flatbed scanner, but then quickly found that it’s very helpful for scanning documents while traveling.

It’s not ideal for high volume, high speed scanning but it’s excellent for large documents, bulky items (such as parcels or objects), and the file format can be set to save directly as a PDF.

It takes a little playing around with the app once installed to learn the features and the various things that can be done with it, but after that initial learning period it is a very simple and effective tool.

I use it for everything from regular size documents that I need to scan on the road, to packages, to creating PDF files with images of tools or other assets because it allows me to take images just like photos from every side of a tool or vehicle and converts those images to PDF directly, plus I can then include all the paperwork that came with the tool or vehicle in question, including images of boxes or other packaging, so I can have all the information ready for archive or use on any of my devices without having to keep a paper file with photos and copies of manuals or important info off the packaging (like item numbers, SKU etc), which enables me to then recycle the packaging and manuals without losing any of the original information.

I initially gave it 5 stars. It did all the things. I depended on it. Then, after iOS 11 came out, it just went off the rails. For some reason it wouldn’t reinstall(I have the paid version). When it did, I’d lost most of my backups. I was able to get most of them off my external HD bc I backup in several places to prevent data loss. However trying to migrate the files from the HD back into TurboScan was impossible. I contacted the developer who basically said oh well sorry. We’re talking hundreds of scans -personal and business.
I managed to somehow re-upload them to my iCloud but they will never be searchable in the TurboScan app.(Hope that makes sense?) The real issue is, when the files upload, there’s no way to get the files named right—it’s just however the Cloud decides to name them, which def isn’t the names I had. Now they’re all in the Cloud under numerical-type names...I have to search the Cloud using my pc—before this cluster, all I did was go into TurboScan and search by the name I had saved the file under. Now, I have new scans saved to TurboScan, and the Cloud and backup to pc, but anything before whatever date, is just in the Cloud. Basically I got a mess, have to use 3 devices to access scans I used to find right in the app. Nightmare!
Choose another app that has better interface between devices and allows for scan importing as well as exporting. While I truly loved this app, when it stopped working right, it’s created a monumental cluster. Save yourself headaches—use another app.

Update 5/2023 This is still one of my used apps. I sell Office technology for a living now - copiers, printers and yep, I now sell scanners lol. I still use this app frequently. Just now I took pics of a calendar in app then with a press of a button I converted out to a pdf and emailed it to myself!
(Original review: I am a finance manager at a car dealership and use this ap everyday. It beats getting up and going to large scanner and is great quality scan! Highly recommend. Update 7/25 I originally purchased this app several years ago and still to this day use it daily! I can use it out in the field to scan documents and also use it at my guess to email directly to my computer and print stuff out. This is a must-have app for my profession. I only wish I could figure out a way to make commission off of it... As I have seen over a hundred coworkers and friends purchase it after seeing me use mine. One word of advice be sure and scan all your important documents immediately such as drivers license, Social Security card, birth certificates, marriage license, etc. immediately into your email and you will always have it available! Update June After many years of using turbo scan for a cat dealership I wanted to add that this is most used so over nearly a decade. It's extremely reliable and I use it for household use also. I scan kids awards, photos, important documents such as birth certificates, drivers license, etc and use the simple "email to myself" button to send everything to my email address. I still love this app and highly recommend it.

There's a paper that needs to be scanned and sent to an instructor or friend, and there's not a single scanner in sight. What now? All you have is your iPhone to take pictures, but people just want a crystal clear document and not a tabletop in the background. Well, with the miracle of the App Store, you're in luck. This is the go-to app.

As a college student I have friends who are often lost in an assignment, whether they don't have the course textbook yet or they need to see how to make calculations in a lab report using their recorded notes. I have a printer with a scanner, but scanning the document to my laptop and sending it to them via email or Facebook creates a hassle due to the printer's startup time and more recently my laptop's lag. So instead, I use this app for more immediate uploads.

Using it is pretty straightforward. You either take a photo or combination of three, or a photo from your device's library, adjust the scanning frame and the page's contrast, and save it as either a JPEG or PDF. You can also scan additional pages to include in your multi-page document.

The quality is exceptional. Like the name suggests, the app scans photos and the end result is just like that from a standard office copier. But this app is a little more than just that. You have the option of scanning the document in either B&W or color filters, or just create the document without filters.

Overall, this is an incredible app that's a must-have on all devices running on iOS. I highly recommend this app to all college students and businessmen. Very reliable and useful addition to anyone's iDevices!

High quality image. Very user friendly and non complex. Been using almost daily in work and home life for about 6 months now. Tried other good scanners , but this is the best I've found yet. I promote it to all my friends and associates like I'm getting a commission.

Years later and still using this scanner like crazy. Often I race my co-workers to show them how I can usually scan 1 -3 pages and send it with a short email faster than they can with the office scanner. They usually load the app in their phone promptly there after. I can also scan & email from my job site, hotel room, or vehicle, (parked of course). I have many apps I really like and use, but Turbo Scan has by far been my favorite as it has made scanning documents so convenient. The quality is so good that you can't tell my PDF came from an IPhone rather than a $10,000 copier. It can also be used on the receivers end just like any other PDF. I also keep many commonly used documents stored in the app so I can access them remotely, scan it to a requester and promptly get back to my project at hand.

This app is also regularly kept up to date which I can't always say about some other apps. Still telling all my friends and co-workers about it like I'm an investor or something.

Now it’s early 2019 and I left management for maintenance supervisor 6 years ago. Still use this app at least a couple times a week when I’m not in the office. Never has anyone questioned the quality of my PDF. It’s fast simple and high quality. Can also send PDF from website to TURBO and then forward just that page to someone instead of a link.

Still loving it and telling friends about it.

I've tried several of the other scanner apps to work with documents in PDF format (not editing, just for saving/sending). Genius Scan+ was a close second place to Turbo Scan (and would surpass it with only a few more features) and here are some points to note:

1. TurboScan has the best auto-crop feature by far -- and it has some thoughtful features that are small but make a big difference. For example, when you need to manually adjust the crop selection border and you tap on the corner to move it, a zoomed-in view appears on the other half of the screen (so your finger or fingertip aren't in the way) and allows you to see precisely how you are resizing the selector.

2. When taking a scan from your built-in camera (99% of the time for me), TurboScan enabled the camera's native manual-tap auto exposure (e.g. tap on a dark corner of the document and it lightens the entire image). Genius Scan+ does NOT do this. Both apps do enable the flash and it is usually turned on by default, I believe. But without the auto exposure capability, the images taken with Genius are typically too dark. Both apps will convert to a high contrast monochrome image (if recognized as a document). But sometimes you need a color scan of a document and Turbo is the only one that gives you the option of a high contrast color image.

3. Turbo only supports email as a method of uploading docs off your device. For my purposes (scanning several times a week -- mostly receipts), this is fine. But there should be a few more options like there are in Genius -- such as uploading to a cloud service, sharing to your LAN, etc. FTP at least would be nice to have.

That's it -- have a good one.

Have been using this elegant and robust app for a couple years and felt the need rave again.

My flatbed scanner is now sitting on a shelf with my digital point and shoot camera. Both great tools, but the app is always with me. And not once has it felt lacking in any aspect.

The scans are consistently excellent. A wrinkled 24x48 blueprint outdoors in wind and poor light? No problem. Having the scanned sheet automatically (but adjustably) framed really works for me. Love the contrast and image mode options too. Being able to add a label, or not (1 less click!), is nice.

This is easily the handiest app on my phone. I am a garden designer and use it for a variety of tasks on the fly: archiving receipts, copying clients' scaled landscape plans, capturing a magazine clipping they saved as inspirational, etc.

Occasionally now even using it in place of the camera because it is so easy to tie together series of shots. A little slower than camera, but fewer clicks to accomplish my task... which is what matters to me. For example, have started compiling albums of plant acquisitions for each job/client; so easy to attach a new scan to an existing set; so easy to share via Dropbox; so easy to have image of receipt attached to job photos. And so on.

Migrating to new iPhone 6s today was very smooth, saved some scans to Dropbox (fast) and backed up extensive collection of scans to external drive via imazing (blindingly fast as both jpeg and pdf). BTW thank you programmers for the convenient reminder (disguised as dummy file) where to prepare PDFs -- slick.

I am the annoying sort that gives average apps 3 star ratings. This app earned the 5 star by seriously improving my workflow in the field.

Some may wonder why this is the BEST scanning app available on the AppStore. I'll tell you why.

A few weeks ago, I tried a few other scanning apps such as doc scan, genius scan, and the most famous, Scanner Pro, which is $6.99, so it should be better right? Out of all the tests I did, Scanner Pro and TurboScan were the best, so I disregarded doc scan and genius scan.

After further inspection of the apps, I found that Scanner Pro had slightly better (clearer) scans compared to TurboScan, and the contrasts for each page was better too. Although you can set the contests manually for TurboScan and make it just as good, Scanner Pro could automatically detect the best contrast. For a while, Scanner Pro became my favourite app, but now I've decided TurboScan is still better. I'll explain this in a list.

1. Turboscan is faster. Scanner Pro's edge detection is not very good, and you usually have to manually move the edges so that it fits the paper. Taking this as an on-the-go app, or I would be using a real scanner, convenience is important, and the slowness of Scanner Pro just made it less useful in the environment I was using it in. I needed something fast and easy, which didn't require me to do a lot of things. TurboScan was much better compared to Scanner Pro in this sense, as the edge detection was near perfect and I almost never had to move the edges.

2. Scanner Pro's multi-page scanning option only can take a maximum of 17 pages. Although this 17 pages is enough for most uses, it wasn't enough for me for one thing, which was scanning a large document. After taking picture and carefully doing the edges like stated in my previous point, which was a hassle enough, the app crashed. After trying this again, it crashed AGAIN. So, I moved to TurboScan, which not only didn't crash, but removed the requirement of me having to edge detect FOR the app (ironic). This made it a very easy job compared to the near-impossible one experienced of Scanner Pro.

I have a few other points, but typing on my iPhone is difficult and I will do it some other time.

However, I would like to state that although Scanner Pro does have better quality scans than TurboScan, you'll have to zoom in to the maximum to actually notice it. The inconvenience of Scanner Pro simply made it unsuitable for my uses.

For some, Scanner Pro may still be a better choice. Take for instance those who do not need quick scans and just want good quality scans, than Scanner Pro will serve you better. Scanner Pro also has better integration which means that it can upload all your scans to Dropbox or Evernote automatically, and even do fax for a small fee.

Therefore, while I find that TurboScan is my preferred choice for scanning, Scanner Pro may still be much better for some.

I have paid for this app 3 times and it’s not emailing it to my email. I’m disappointed that the last time I wrote a review it worked for a few days and now I bought the pro and still won’t email to myself. Really irritating and I would like my money back if they can’t get it to work and put it towards an app that does

I have liked TurboScan but was sending one scanned image as a PDF email attachment (it did it in the app) and wrote a long email in phone when a text came through and automatically popped me out of the email and when I went back to it, there was no save of the email in progress in my app. And now I have so start over.
Fail.

Deleted and reinstalled numerous times. Sent an important documents that never made it numerous times and is now on their server. If it had worked at least once then I would know it's somewhat legit. There's no guarantee in cyber safety ever, but this is an app for documents. Everyone else has had a positive experience, great for them.

Why is it that technology always tries to “improve” itself w/o any credence to leaving well enough alone. Idk what they did, but the new auto select crap has almost ruined a perfectly good app. Can’t shut it off to any effect. Cropping is now more complicated and the trash bin is the only feature of merit.

I loved this app and used it all the time to copy stuff to Dropbox. With the update, I can’t upload a file into Dropbox unless I “share” it with someone. So basically I have to email it to myself and mess up my Dropbox sharing permissions just to get a file from TurboScan into Dropbox. Super annoyed by this. Will change rating if issue is addressed.

Instead of downloading the app " Scan" which I used for so many years, I decided to give a shot and download this app due to the amount of good reviews. So I paid for and on my first document, I could get a good image. It didn't matter what I did and what type of light I had, every scan the document would have a white flask which made the writing illegible. Very disappointed with the app.

After last update about better colour proccessing in document, the writing with marker can not be printed black and white. Yes it can be printed but it is not suitable for reading.midde of the marker was white before update.now all marker with writing is colourful so when you print, writing seems dark and not suitable to read.please give us old colour proccessing options back! After that i change my 1 star.

The app used to allow an “open as pdf” option, which allowed me to email from my phone. That has been taken away, which makes the app useless to me. (Yes, I know that there is a button to email to yourself, but that requires that your email be configured on your phone. I choose to use an external email app.) I wouldn’t complain about this on a free app, but I paid for this app specifically because of this functionality.

This app would get a 5, but because it does not email scanned documents it gets a 1. I paid for this app to use for work, but unfortunately I have not been able to efficiently use it. As every time I try to email scanned docs they do not send. I then have to go into settings, disable my email and reset it. This is extremely inconvenient and annoying. Please fix this, as emailing scanned docs is an essential & main feature of the app. I'd also like a refund. Thank you.

I’ve been using TurboScan for years. I’ve never had a problem with back-up, despite having to take my phone back to factory settings before. It always back-upped automatically. Before I did it this last time, I checked that it was saving to the cloud via iOS settings, but did not realize the settings had changed within the app so you have to manually go in and set it to save. I lost years of scanned documents.
I’m extremely angry. This will make everything that much harder for taxes this year.

I want to love TurboScan so badly.

The iCloud synchronization hardly every works. When it works right, you scan a doc and within a new moments, it appears on all iCloud connected devices in the turboscan folder.

But it’s always occasionally been intermittent, eventually catching up with itself.

Lately though, two or three days Can pass before my files sync properly.

And nothing seems to work: turning on/off sync; closing iCloud in all my devices and reopening.

It’s become so frustrating as I need and iPhone scanner for work that just works without the hassle.

What do you say, TurboScan team? Can you help?

I updated my review today because I have loved this app since 2016 due to it’s simplicity and speed. I tried to address performance issues with the developer and all I really got was, “sorry you are experiencing issues with the app”.
The problems I have now are that it delays on taking scans and frequently crashes. The only thing I can think is that I’m using an fully updated iPhone 8, or that I simply have too many scans because I have used it for 6+ years. I want to keep it, just don’t want the slowness.

My previous 2016 review:

Easy to use. I track all my receipts. Scan all docs with this. Simple. Quick. I even keep my wallet smaller by scanning Safeway cards or library cards in it. The search is easy. And I use it to easily send pdfs to my biller to track business expenses. Love it!

After using TurboScan for perhaps 15 years, I scanned a four page document, and was suddenly given selections. I was not familiar with, such as putting it in a folder, creating a folder for it. All I wanted to do was name it, save it, and send it to my photos so I could then distribute it to my group. I could not figure out how to do this. Every time I went to mail it or put it in Photos “it’s not saved”. but it would not give me an option to save it. This is very frustrating! Apparently an update has been added, and I have no idea navigate my way around in it.
Darn! This is my favorite app for copying, scanning, and saving documents. It’s everything from a scanner to a filing cabinet for me. What have they done? How can I just scan it, name it, save it, and send it to myself the way I’m used to doing?
