I used Tuffy in Walled lake for years. Man that ran it was named Art. I really like Art and he always did quality work in his shop. He was honest. He retired and the place has changed for the worst. I took my car in for a oil change and when I got home I had large oil spots all over my drive. We took the car back and they said the technician had oil leak out form the pan and he didn't get it cleaned up. They cleaned it for us. I had a problem with the traction control warning on it and it would power down. I took my car back and they said it had a bad timing chain on it. When the car first would run it ran smoothly. I knew it was not the timing chain. I took it back and left it there. I told my wife to remember where and how it was parked. When we went to pick it up it was obvious they never moved the car. We were told it needed a new engine because of the timing chain and that would be six thousand dollars. I took the car home and did some research. There are many things that can cause the timing chain error. The most common was the throttle body being dirty. The traction module is right behind it and can get duity as well. I cleaned it and it ran fine. My wife drove it to work 1 day and came home. She said it was making a funny noise. I started it up and the engine blew. I checked the oil and there was none in it. I think it had a leak and that is why I had seen the large oil spots. We had to trash the car it did not need a 6 thousand dollar engine. I only paid $3ooo for the car in the first place. I did have the car running fine and the traction control was fixed.
A few days later we received a thing from Tuffy saying we needed a new engine because of the traction control. six thousand dollars to fix it. I had even called them previously to tell them how I fixed the traction control but they did not want to know. I have noticed lately very few cars in thier lot. I think they are losing business because of the poor service. I will never go there again.
Country of complaint: United States
Desired outcome: Make people aware this This Tuffy service is no longer a good or honest place to go to for service . Years ago I worked as a master mechanic in a dealership .. I knew what a bad timing chain sounds and acts like .

The Walled Lake Tuffy Auto Service cannot be recommended as they have performed poorly through, for instance, getting the oil change wrong and failing to correctly diagnose the car traction control system’s fault. It is regrettable to see that the garage neither explained nor recognized your interventions aimed at repair and preferred to offer superfluous services instead. The lack of quality service under new management is evident and it’s commendable to break off using their services. In the future, however, you might want to look for a more trustworthy and honest shop for your car maintenance.
