May 2022 -Called Tri-State Movers from Farmingdale, Long Island for a Quote:
Spoke with Elaine who was very nice over the phone and explained we had a 1-bedroom apartment with a loft and a storage unit and needed a quote on the cost to move from Long Island, NY to Sarasota, Fla. We then gave her itemized details of the contents of our apartment, 1 bedroom, living room, basic kitchen items, a loft, dining room table and 6 chairs, various paintings, camping gear, 2 bicycles and a storage unit and about 30 boxes.
She then quoted a price of $1,700 to go with other families in 1 truck and would take a few weeks to get our stuff or if we wanted to go express/direct it would cost us $3,400 and would have our stuff within 5 to 7 days. We decided it was within our budget and would go the express/direct route. We then proceeded to pack all our boxes, clothes etc.
Moving Day: Friday, July 22, 2022 The truck arrived 1 ½ hours later than they were originally scheduled. There were 3 guys which one guy had an extreme odor of marijuana. I then questioned him and asked if he was smoking pot, which he just stared at me with no response and said nothing. I was just hoping he wasn’t going to break anything since it was obvious, he was “high”. They took our furniture apart and packed up the truck which took over 6 hours. It appeared they were working at a snail’s pace. It was a very hot day and we provided them with water and cool drinks, containers of ice and plastic cups and a very generous tip.
Finally, after everything was packed and the guy in charge had an inventory sheet and told us the price has changed to $6,500 as we had more stuff than what we told Elaine. I asked him to repeat the price (thought I heard him wrong) which he did and my mouth dropped and said our budget only allowed us $3,400. as Elaine had quoted.
I asked why they didn’t have someone physically come ahead of the move, check what we had and give us a quote. The guy in charge said there was nothing he could do and no one was in the office at this time and we would have to call the next day and discuss with them. I told him we definitely can’t do the express/direct route (not in our budget) and to make sure, to now change it to put with other families on one truck.
Tri-State Movers from Farmingdale, Long Island not calling us back: Saturday, July 23 we tried getting some answers from Elaine but to no avail, she somehow disappeared and never answered the phone. We were trying to get someone on the phone on how much this was going to cost us and how long would it now take not going express/direct and we finally got LINDA on the phone who was VERY RUDE stating someone will call us back. We asked if she had our phone number and she said she didn’t, had other customers and hung up on us! After calling numerous times, we were told by Linda they now had to reweigh our stuff again.
Sunday July 24, 2022 -We were now in our new home with no furniture, clothes, and kitchen items and any necessities. This was extremely upsetting and stressful living under these conditions. We were basically getting the run around and getting no answers. They kept telling us someone will call us back with the information but no one ever did which was really frustrating. I finally had a very good friend who has a lot of expertise in this type of situation call Tri-State. She spoke to the owner of Tri-State Movers, Gaverial. He said the reason it cost us more money was because we never told them we had a storage unit (which we did) and he stated the storage unit had the same amount of stuff as our apartment, which of course it didn’t. So obviously he was lying again. Gaverial said we would have our stuff by Aug 5 and if we are not satisfied with that, we could get another moving company. However, we would have to give Tri-State Movers $4,000 to get our stuff out. We called another moving company to see what they would charge and it was around $4,000 so it would end up costing us $4,000 to Tri-State Movers warehouse and another $4,000 to hire another moving company. Since our funds were very limited, our only choice was to stay with Tri-State Movers and try to work something out.
We were going back and forth with Gaverial numerous times and many days of frustrating phone calls and texts, that is, when he would respond. He then lowered the price from $6,500 to $5,500 to $4,800 (still $1,400 more than originally quoted). We finally agreed on the $4,800 since we didn’t have a choice. We had no say in anything but to try and be patient and as nice as possible so we would hopefully see our stuff again. We had to go out and buy a mattress, some beach chairs and basic essentials just to live.
Tuesday, August 2 -we contacted via text to Gaverial for information never receiving a response or a call. After several phone calls and texts for many days, he finally replied stating our furniture and goods would be delivered around August 10 and 11. I asked Gaverial to please let me know when the date gets closer, time and day so we can make sure we are home and have the money ready.
Saturday, August 6 - I texted Gaverial to see if our stuff had been loaded as he stated. He replied back “In a meeting, call you after” which he never did (very typical of him). I tried to contact him throughout the day either via phone or text. He finally responded after 6pm that evening “they just finished 20 min ago the 83 south delivery schedule for this week” which meant our load was on one of the 1st loads that they had that evening. He said he had 83 customers to deliver this week and we were one of them”. I asked him for the schedule to try and figure out how many other deliveries are before mine and he responded it was not my concern and I didn’t need to know that information. He also stated we would receive a text message 24 hours after my load left for an estimated time of arrival (that was a lie too)”.
Friday, August 12 –Received a message to call Gaverial. He stated he needed a bank check made out to Tri-State Movers and text him a copy of the bank check for them to move forward with the delivery. We agreed and showed him the check. Gaverial stated the estimated time of delivery for Sunday, August 14 was “arrival time 3:30-6:30pm.” The delivery finally came but was at the next block over sitting idling until we approached them to see if this was our delivery. They finally got to our house at 9:30pm. The 2 drivers were arguing with one another about it being so late and it was going to take them all night. Actually with “OUR” help unloading and unwrapping furniture) they didn’t leave until 2:45am on Sunday night. The drivers were not prepared, needed screws etc. to put back the furniture that they had taken apart for the move. Thankfully we had noticed it was taped to the furniture. We almost received some stuff that wasn’t ours & explained to them. What a nightmare! I texted Gaverial when the delivery was late saying this is ridiculous and his response was “It’s not in my control”
This was supposed to be one of the happiest times in our lives moving to another state, starting over and moving into our 1st house we bought together and they took that away from us! They knew how we were living and didn’t care; never even phased them in the least or ever said they were sorry; we were just another one of their VICTIMS.
THEY ARE HEARTLESS AND DON’T CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS ONE BIT, THEY JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE ALL YOUR STUFF IS LOADED ON THEIR TRUCK AND THEN THEY TAKE OVER BY CHARGING YOU DOUBLE AND MAKING UP LIES AND IGNORING YOUR PHONE CALLS AND TEXTS! BEWARE RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN FROM THESE SCAMMERS, TRI-STATE MOVERS IN LONG ISLAND THEY WILL TAKE YOU FOR WHAT EVER THEY CAN!
