I ate at this Melting Pot tonight with a group of 8 mothers getting together for a fun girl's night out away from the kids. One mother in our group asked about a special she had heard about for $30 per couple that included cheese, chocolate, and a salad after 9pm. Our server told us that yes they did have that special and we all agreed (with him present) that it would be cheaper for us to do that so we all agreed. We enjoyed our meal and had a fun time but when the bill game the total was almost $200 before any tip was added. Our meal was also supposed to include non-alcoholic drinks but we were charged for those as well. I quickly did the math and realized that with with the one coke we ordered in addition to the dinners, they had charged us $45 per couple instead of $30. I asked the server to explain the charges and he said, "huh, our prices must have gone up." I asked him kindly if he would please fix the bill to reflect the $30 price we were told so he left with the bill (we're all 30-something moms - an extra $15 for dinner isn't pocket change for us!). After a few minutes the General Manager - Tony, came back with our check and said he apologized for the "misunderstanding" and he would "in good faith, take $20 off the bill." $20 would barely cover the difference on one dinner! I followed him back to the register so I wouldn't make a scene and told him I wasn't comfortable paying $120 more than we were expecting, especially since we were told personally by our server what the price was. My server - Matt, was standing right next to the GM and didn't say a word. Tony, the GM, said - "no one told you that." I was shocked. I said, "yes, Matt, our server told us it was $30 per couple." Matt then says "well, i told you that I wasn't sure and I would check but I never confirmed that was the price." What ! I said "Look, there's 8 women in there who heard him tell us that and we even discussed right in front of him that it would be cheaper to go that route. " Tony said, "I'm sorry but that never happened.. now go sit down or I'm not going to take anything off." I couldn't believe I was being treated that way. I told him I didn't like the way he was speaking to me and he said he could care less and to go sit down or he wouldn't take anything off! In no way did I ever raise my voice or even slightly get disrespectful and this guy immediately told me I was 1. Lying, and 2. To go sit down or he wouldn't do anything to fix the bill. I went back to the table and told the other ladies what happened and they were all just shaken and didn't know what to do. Had our husbands had been there it would have been a different story. They brought the bill back again and this time it was still a charge of $180 but this time they had even added an 18% gratuity (because i'm sure they knew we wouldn't leave a tip). Our server apologized and said the miscommunication was his fault (although he told the GM I was lying right in front of my face) and they still didn't fix the bill. I didn't want to make a bigger fuss and ruin the night so we paid the bill, I let it go, and returned home and told my husband what happened. He called the GM and calmly asked him to explain exactly what happened and Tony just hung up on him. I'm in the process of filing a formal complaint but you can be sure none of us will ever ever ever go back to this Melting Pot again.
