My main problem is with the LED lights and the SunSetter remote. I purchased a motorized SunSetter awning in April 2024 and opted to include the LED lighting system, paying over $1,200 to have everything installed by the authorized distributor that SunSetter referred me to. The awning was installed with few issues but the LED lights were on backorder. I kept checking with the distributor and on the SunSetter website for months and finally in August called SunSetter. I was told the lights were coming in soon and I would have them within a few weeks, but strangely the lights were delivered a few days later (I assumed they were already back in stock, just not shipped until I called myself). Then it took me another month to get the distributor to return my calls and send someone to install the lights. That was finally done in September, but by now the weather was turning cold and I never had the opportunity to enjoy the use of the lights.
Fast forward to April 2025. Went to use the awning but the remote would not change channels to turn on the lights. The awning itself worked, but not the lights. SunSetter sent me a new remote with instructions to program it. After several tries and getting several other people to help me, I was successful in programming the remote to open/close the awning, but no one can get the lights programmed.
Left a message in May 2025 with the distributor — no response.
Finally had time to focus on it again in July and left another message — again no response. A week later I sent a text and received a response that they are no longer a SunSetter distributor and there would be a $250 service charge.
I then called SunSetter, asking to have someone come and reprogram the lights. I was told they have no distributors in my area (really? in the greater NY metro area?) but they could give me the name & number of a local handyman and I would have to pay for their service.
I just need someone who knows what they are doing to spend a few minutes to program the remote. I paid a LOT on this awning and the lights, and think I deserve to be able to use it all without problems and without again paying for the service after already paying over $1,200 for the installation from an unreliable distributor. If the original remote itself wasn't defective I wouldn't even need service at this time. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect SunSetter to stand behind their products and send someone, at no charge to me, to fix the problem. The lights are useless without a working remote as there is no other way to turn them on.
Desired outcome: A reprogrammed remote that works everything I purchased, at no additional cost to me. Otherwise, allow me to return the LED lights and refund me the costs for them.
