My name is Tina Makowski and I am a long-time friend of a Starbucks employee named Leigh Venable. Leigh has been employed by Starbucks for over 15 years. For the past year or so, she has complained to me on a weekly basis about a co-worker named "Camilla", who has continually harassed and belittled her both in private and openly in the presence of other co-workers. She has repeatedly suggested that Leigh leave the store during her shift, has screamed at her, does not let Lee do her designated job and has blatantly given free coffee to numerous customers, despite knowing it is not allowed. As Leigh tells me, she has done this to other co-workers as well. Despite the fact that Leigh has made complaints about this treatment on numerous occasions, the problem persists. Leigh is a woman of 72 years of age and her workplace treatment amounts to a hostile workplace environment as well as elder abuse. I cannot believe that Starbucks would allow such shabby treatment by one of its employees towards another. Is profit so important that this would be allowed to continue? Please be aware that Leigh intends to seek the advice of counsel if this problem is allowed to continue and I, for one, will no longer patronize the Starbucks label. This is a reprehensible treatment for a long-time employee and one that will eventually be brought under the eyes of the local media. I trust that someone will see the seriousness that exists within and will approach a solution that ends this harassment.
