Since March 2025, SmartStop Self Storage – Dallas has become a hotbed for burglaries, with criminals targeting the facility repeatedly. Still, the company has shown a staggering lack of response, leaving the community vulnerable and in the dark.
As a victim, directly affected by these events, I do not feel Happy, Safe, and Secure. On June 10, my unit and seven others were ransacked and burglarized. This follows earlier break-ins, including one in April where nearly 50 units were hit in a single night. Renters are left unaware and unsupported while their possessions—including irreplaceable items of sentimental and financial value—disappear without accountability.
Despite the alarmingly high number of incidents, SmartStop appears to have failed in notifying tenants promptly, if at all, boosting security measures, or even reporting the crimes to authorities. The community deserves better. It’s time for SmartStop to take responsibility, improve its security posture, and communicate transparently with renters. Silence is no longer an option. Tenants are urged to stay vigilant and consider alternative storage options as the community calls for accountability and change.
