So my son has a smart start ignition interlock. He has had it for approximately six months. It triggered in March for a violation, however smart. Start wouldn’t tell him what it was. He couldn’t figure out why it did this and neither could be person. He took it into to have checked and recalibrated, other than him starting his car and going into the house in mornings and evenings when he has to go to work because it’s super cold and he’s warming up the engine and he must’ve walked away. However, know if there’s a camera on the device so they can easily check this to see what’s really going on.. He was told at that time the next calibration would be pushed out due to a calibration occurring early in March. Initially in March, Smart start noticed him via the device with a lockout notice if he didn’t get the vehicle in for the violation, which he had to pay for in addition to installation and monthly fee. On May 29, he was noticed that he had a calibration due on June 3. He immediately made the arrangement to have this done. On June 1, he opens up mail from the MVD indicating he failed a calibration and his license is suspended as of May 22. On June 1, Upon calling smart start they told they told him they didn’t have to give him any documents of proof and they could not tell him anything or why he was not noticed of any other calibration due except June 3. They then advised him he missed a calibration in April. He advised them that he had no other notification of an upcoming calibration except for June 3. At which time Smart Starr told him he should’ve been locked out back in April which he was not. So my question is, is there any recourse? He has lost really good jobs in the last few years over this entire case. The Courts erroneously submitted charges that were false and had to be retracted though they suspended his license and even though they should not have he still had to pay all fees to get his license back. He was told just do that because that’s the fastest way he could get it back if he waited for the courts they could get messed up again. Unbelievable! Then the MVD didn’t receive some electronic class he took which he did take and we had to get that rectified, now Smart says he missed a calibration, when in fact, he was never noticed of the calibration. So again, my question is, is there any recourse? He did request the hearing late last night to be held so we’re waiting to hear on that and he gathered all his evidence so that he can be ready for the hearing. But he can’t go without a license. He works full-time and I can’t get him there because I work full-time plus he goes to school so everything is a mess right now because of this missed calibration that Smart Starr never notified him about .

Recommendation: It appears all interlock devices have issues. I don’t know which one’s the best. We thought that Smart start would be the best but it looks like it’s a problem too. These companies have too much rain and control over a person’s life that they’re virtually ruined in the punch of a button.

I i have a smart start interlock in my car yesterday I got at service the monthly service fees $150 recalibrated I went and got a Domino's Pizza then I picked my daughter up from school I was eating my pizza is then the rolling start happened I waited to count down to about it was about two minutes and then I blew instantly gave me a instant violation lockout which was a 0.4 from a piece of pepperoni pizza and I've done this many times before eating pizza and blonde to its never gone off the guy at the shops in and must have been the difference in crust because I've got an edge crust instead of a Classic Crust I went straight back to the service center he told me these nothing they can do about it so I ran i called smart Start and explain the situation and explains them I was eating pizza in a violation locked me out and I then I'll see them on the screen wait so blew again and it was a 0.00 pass which proves that it wasn't drinking are they still see it I have to pay the 65 dollars violation lockout fee which is absolutely ridiculous and absurd so, i don't really know what to do at this point instead unless just pay the fee which I really don't want to do because it's not my fault to a point it's ridiculous they should be able to see that it was a false false reading because it was just from a piece of pizza and it's obvious because of my second blow two minutes later so here I don't know who they were responsible to but the must be something I can do
