Federal Tax ID Number Request
Extremely deceptive company. They are on the top of google search for issuing EIN's, they give the appearance of being the IRS website, they are super shady about how you request the EIN, and then at the very end, they nail you with $177 of charges. Since the EIN is now allocated, they claim they can't refund you, but they kick back $49 as a "courtesy". I'm usually pretty careful about buying anything on the net and I can smell deception pretty easy... so these guys are really good at hiding who they are and taking your money and giving you no options afterward. Time to file with the BBB.
charged for no service
Charged $236 for filling out a form that was listed next to a "Rhode Island" state tax exemption form. Was emailed 5 minutes later, "we don't do state forms." Requested a full refund. Was charged $50 for absolutely zero service. Called to request the $50 credit (a full credit of the $236 I was charged). Was told they charge $50 as part of their terms for filling out an online form. I received no service. They told me to go ahead and file a complaint. Here it is.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I am a representative of the company referenced in this complaint. I'm not sure how the customer came to believe that we provided a preparation or filing service for a state tax exemption form. We don't provide a service for that form, and we make no representations anywhere that we do. It could be due to an unintended placement of an advertisement for our Federal Tax ID (EIN) filing service, however I've done several searches for "Rhode Island state tax exemption form", "Rhode Island tax form", etc., and I do not see any of our ads. In addition, our Federal Tax ID (EIN) filing service is clearly labeled in multiple places throughout as a Federal Tax ID (EIN) filing service and nothing else. A rush order for that service was placed, for which we began to render the service as requested. We are happy to cancel, however a cancellation fee is applied for services which were already rendered, such as the processing of submitted information, the preparation of the requested SS-4 form, the response to the subsequent request about state tax forms, and then finally the processing of the cancellation request and refund. Please understand that cancellation fees are common in many types of businesses, especially in businesses that provide services rather than physical products, since the time and resources already spent on a request cannot be returned and resold the way a physical product can. I sincerely apologize that we were unable to reach a more agreeable solution, I hope that his helps to explain, and I certainly hope that any further interaction with our customer service specialists is more positive.

I thought I was on an official IRS simple file website, nor there is no web page showing up they took my money and claim it will be returned in 24-48 we shall see. If it is not returned to my account in this time frame I will file a civil suit against the Hermeris Corp. Considering I contacted the IRS by phone and to receive a tax ID number you are charged $ 0.00 dollars. and they charged me $128.00. Their form that I filled out was identical to the IRS form I filled out to get my number today! Oh, they better return my money!

Simple Filings.com is an aka of Hermeris Inc. They are at the top of the search engine list when searching for IRS services and EIN numbers. (Shame on Google for allowing this to happen). They take your money as soon as the submit button is pressed. They don't tell you how much they will charge until you are finished giving them all your most personal...
