Direct Heating and Cooling Clean my air conditioner

I received a sales call offering me a cleaning of my home air conditioner for $35.99 changing the filter cleaning the air ducts and checking the freeon. My husband took off work early to be there for the scheduled appointment. They never showed up and finally called and said that since there was noone at home they cancelled the appointment. When I came home from work (wife) I called the company complaining that when we schedule appointments and take off work we expect someone to show up. They put me on with a supervisor and they offered me the same deal for $29.99, appologized and came the very next night. I agreed and I took off work early the next night. They came on time . Two men showed up and looked at my unit and told me that they could not service it do to corrosion and dirt in my coils. I needed to pay atleast $600.00 to get it working properly . The one man was so rude and condesending and treated me with such disrepect. My units was running ice cold and was only 2 years old. I knew it was a scam. I called the sevice phone number right in front of the service techs and complained. They then when out side and I followed them and told them to leave. The one man said he serviced it when he didn`t do a thing other than wash my filters. I paid them nothing again called the service was transferred 5 times and told them to never call me again!

Direct Heating and Cooling over charged& lied to, poor service

In May 2010 my daughter noticed the the AC wasn't coming out cold. we found a sticker on the AC unit for Direct and contacted them. We found out that Direct had replaced 5 AC units in 2005, along with checking all the other units. while they were in the other units they put their sticker on ALL the units so if you needed service you would call them. Ironically thats what we did.
They come out in a couple of hours and the technision tried a few things (changed the capacitor, for which he left in place) but determined that the compressor was shot.
The cost to replace it along with a compressor kit would be 885.00. we felt we had no choice and told him to go with it.
We were advised by the tech that this was the cost even though it was still under warrenty that the unit was less than 5 years old. the new compressor would be covered for a year.
4 months later almost to the day, we had no AC again. We called Direct back, after several calls and being hung up on 2 different times we finally had a tech come out the next day. The Tech told us that the capacitor and compressor kit was gone (remember these were replaced 4 months ago) and the it would be 755.00 to fix it.
I called back the office and complained and they dropped the price to 550.00 with a 2 year extened warrenty.
Please keep in mind I was going to be charged 79.95 just to come back out again.
Well iIno sooner hang up and I receive another call back from the tecnition telling me that the compressor is shot and he thinks we sould buy a new unit at the tune of 3600.00. I told him that we just replaced all the items he was talking about 4 months ago that this is crazy.
At this point my daughter started to talk to her neighbor, who is a contractor. He had his unit replaced the year before for 1000.00 and told my daughter they were ripping us off. The technician walked in as he was telling her that 3600.00 was highway robbery and with that the technician up and left and I called to cancel my order with them.
Our neighbor contacted his AC rep and repaired the unit for 600.00 and said that we don't need an new AC unit. I wish i had checked on line to see all the complaints against this company before we called them back. I was still charged 79.95 for a miss diagnosis and if it wasn't for our neighbor would have been stiffed out of 3600.00.
I don't recoemmend anybody using these guys. I certainly will never call them back again.

I experienced a similar situation with Direct and filed a complaint with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. To date, I have not received a response. I do however, suggest that any "Victum" of the this alleged Cape Coral company pursue local, state and law enforcement complaints when applicable.

Direct Heating and Cooling Beware of Salesmen masquerading as technicians

Glad to see this site is around to warn those with web access. Like one of the other posters, we were sold a new unit to replace one that was still under warranty. They give you free bi-annual maintenance check ups but they really don't do much of anything that I can tell except try to sell you something else. Jeez! On the last visit they didn't even clean the filter! Didn't even look at it! Just told me that I needed all new duct work. Whether it's new duct work, a new compressor, ultra violet lights or whatever, they are there for one reason and one reason only: TO SELL YOU SOMETHING. Beware! They're prices are very high. Please check around. Get estimates from at least one or two other companies.

Second post for today. The unit failed today. Called Direct at 4:30pm. Someone arrived at 11:pm, no problem. They find the compressor has no freon in it. They say it will cost me $385.00 plus a service call charge because it is after 11:pm. I asked where did the freon go and they say someone probably stole it. Hello! We have a service policy plus the unit is only about 17 mos. old..

These people have tried to sell us new ducts 4 months after the unit was installed. That was a specific question I asked when I was buying the unit and was told we will not need new ducts. When I mentioned this to the service people tonight they said" I probably would not have bought the system at all if I was told I needed new ducts at that time" . They cannot have it both ways. I consider it very dishonest. Could tell more but not now.

I had them leave and will call a local contractor tomorrow. I WOULD BEWARE AND CAREFUL DEALING WITH THEM.!

I have similar history. We bought a new system a little over a year ago so we are going to be involved like it or not for awhile. This is one of the newest systems on the block and have the most problems. Every time they come they try to add something else for a lot of money.

Last visit I asked the tech to write his recommendations and cost of the service he recommended on receipt he gave me. When he gave me the receipt that info was not on it.

Been told there are new owners and the bad guys are gone. We shall see! Never thought I was this easy to trick. Oh well.

We just discovered that my elderly mother-in-law got scammed by this company. Her neighbor gave her a coupon for a free duct cleaning. We discovered that she was instead sold a new air conditioner to the tune of $5, 000+! Her air-conditioner was working just fine. Being elderly, she was easy prey for this company. The customer service and Mitzi were of absolutely no use. We will be pursuing legal action against them as soon as we can reach a lawyer. THESE ARE THE KIND OF PEOPLE THAT YOU HEAR ABOUT ON THE NEWS WHO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE ELDERLY and most certainly anyone else that they can. I can't urge you enough NOT to do business with these souless creeps.

The service contract with these guys is a complete scam. Everytime they come out, they will find something wrong - EVERYTIME. On one of the service calls, they opened the blower unit in the garage to inspect the coils, and they never re-taped the unit when they closed it up. The unit was leaking cold air in the garage. On the last service visit, they told me I need all new duct work at the cost of $7000.00. I called another company for a 2nd opinion, and they told me that there was nothing wrong with the current duck work. They even guessed and told me that Direct Heating and Cooling told me to replace all my duct work. Stay far away from this company. Check all the complaints on line and with the BBB.

Be warned, do not have anything to do with this company. Do not let them in your home. My air conditioning system worked great until they got involved and told me I needed a whole new system, which I did not. I have reason to believe they did not perform services as implied and that for some reason my system abruptly stopped working after they provided what they called service.

Unfortunately, most people are unaware of the telemarketing laws and regulations and, unfortunately, the representatives calling "repeatedly" are merely doing what they are paid for and instructed to do. FOR ANYONE who receives sales calls that they do not want, a good start would be to take 5 minutes of your time and register on the national do not call list at 1-800-HELP FLA, otherwise, more than likely you WILL continue to receive calls, as phone lists are re-populated on a regular basis and, regardless of whether or not you tell a particular company to stop calling, if you are not on this list, guess what? New list, no notes, you're gonna get a phone call. CALL 800-HELP-FLA and stop wasting telemarketers time by calling you when you don't want them to because, believe me when I tell you, they don't want to listen to an angry homeowner anymore than you want to hear their sales pitch. In this economy, EVERYONE has the right to work if they are able to find a job and, if an angry consumer is too lazy to make a simple phone call in order to separate themselves from the sales process, then you might want to consider turning off your phone service altogether and see how that works out for you.

These guys, DIRECT HEATING and VANS HEATING repeatedly call my house (more like harass) about every other day and this has been going on for more than a year, now. I didn't actually think they were a legit business, so now after reading the comment above I am positive they are scam artists. Beware.

In the process now. I thought I was consumer savvy and that they were trying to mend their ways. I called them because I thought I was under warranty. Partial repair done. Did'nt pass inspection .
Does anyone know who in the State of Florida should they be reported to.

They called us out of the blue as we had never used them before pushing to sell us their "check-up special" for $34.95. Said they would have someone over to our place in a few hours. I usually am a little suspicious of these types of calls anyway but thankfully I was online and saw complaints here and elsewhere online. Strange that not 15 minutes after we said no thanks, another company named Van's called with the exact same offer. Hmmmm, maybe same owner or somehow related.

Their telemarketing tactics lead me to believe they were probably incorporated under another name, changed things up but kept their list of victims. You see, I had the same experience with another company a few years ago (name of TSI maybe?) where the guy came out, opened up my a/c unit (while I was watching him) looked around with his flashlight and closed it up. Went outside, looked at the unit, sprayed it with a hose for 15 seconds and asked me how I wanted to pay the $34.95. I laughed in his face and told him to get off my property. When he tried to get tough about it, I showed him the ad that said 16 point check-up and asked him if opening and closing the panel on the air handler counted as 2 of the 16 points because he didn't do a damn thing. He then tried to sell me a service contract. I told him to leave before I called the cops. What a joke some of these guys are. Luckily, I know to watch them and to not trust the ads or telemarketing calls.

We purchased a "NEW" system from these jokers in August 2008. We found out it was not new. When the cool weather came, the heat didn't work. We were told the part was warrantied, but were charged $160.00 labor for a 10 minute job & waited 4 days for them to put it in. Last summer we had to call due to lack of cold enough air in thesystem . Needless to say, we called another, HONEST company! Now May 2010, no cold air at all. We called back the good company & have found there is a leak somewhere in the line of the Puron/Freon. The cost could be high depending on where the leak is. All we could do is refill the system & must wait a week, then have our excellent "air guy" make a determination. WARNING to all! Never use these crooks for any reason! They should be shut down!

Direct Heating and Cooling Read this before you call to DHC!

I did not realize there was a website complaintsboard.com I would have check it first before I made a one year contract with this company direct heating and cooling in Cape Coral. My AC has been working fine since I bought my house in 2004; in February I wanted just to have a regular check up. So I called this company thinking it was going to be a good experience….and this is what happened. A tech came came and check the condenser and the evaporator unit and told me it was fine. That all I needed was a UV light to avoid getting mold in the unit and will help me and my kids not to get any allergies, so the price was $2000.00 and I said I’ll call you back let me check with my boss (wife), but he then said I’ll give a good deal if you get a one year contract for $150.00 and that way you don’t have to pay any service call fees. So I went with it. Now 2 days ago I noticed warm air coming out from the supply panel, so I figured I have a contract let me call them. Now it was 6 pm so I shut off the unit then a guy by the name of “Greg “shows up around 9pm and turn on the ac from the thermostats and went outside to check the unit and check the Freon told me Freon was ok, that the unit was going bad and I needed a new because of the new code I might need a 13 or 14 SEER unit and with the discount I can get for $6800.00. Now I said let me think it over. Remember my unit was working when he came in. So the next day I called two different companies and them both told me all I needed was a good cleaning for both units because they were dirty. No need to replace the unit. Now the first guy who came two month before did not even clean the unit when he put me in the contract. It’s amazing how far this people can go or if they can get a good sleep knowing what they are doing ripping people off .I am not going to stop here, if I have to go to the new I will. I hope someone else reads this before they call the DHC Company.

I am a 65 year old woman living alone and on SS. Their gig is to get you to sign the contract where they can come back and do "service and cleaning" and gives them a wide open opportunity to sell you things you don't need. Don't do a contract. You can call many companies willing to show up and do a cleaning and service. ...much cheaper than this company. Also they may tell you something you really need...or not...but sell to you at 3 times what cost should be. They have x-technicians all over area that will badmouth them about their rip off program. I don't think they are good to their employees either because they sure don't stay long.Diego is married to someone in the company ownership. Not sure who. Have heard his wife is the owner.
So the reason I feel this way is because in January 2016 they came to my house to work on my air conditioner. It was working well but hadn't had it serviced since I bought the house and wanted to make sure it was going to stay working. The coil needed cleaning for $495...since found a place that does it for around $100. Numerous other "problems" brought my bill to $1800 for the service and the UV lite that I have since found out I also way overpaid for. Guaranteed warranty for 4 years and I "should have no problems." Then they go into the attic and determine I need all new ducts because the seals are broken and they are full of mold. When the ducts were brought down I did indeed see that they were in bad shape. Cost was over $3000. One of the contractors installing said that the sealant they were going to use was generic and I would have the same problem in a couple of years. It will deteriorate and moisture will get into duct and eventually mold will take over. I have this problem taken care of on my own for much cheaper than Direct was going to charge me...
So now it's August of 2016 and they call me to come and do my service check agreed on in the contract. It is suppose to include the cleaning and check. Of course, they find many issues...leaking freon, was the main one. I suddenly have water all over my garage floor under the airconditioner and is also all over floor in living room Wasn't there .5 hour before they arrived because my neighbor and I were sitting on couch in front of where the water was coming in and we would have noticed it all over the floor. Coincidence maybe but seems fishy to me. Another of course...the only thing they can do is replace the entire unit and they will give me a deal at $4981 and another maint contract for a year. So now the pressure is on to sign and I didn't. Tried to put me on a finance program for only 9% interest and no penalties to pay off early. NOW KEEP I N MIND MY AIR CONDITIONER WAS WORKING FINE. THEY CALLED ME TO COME FOR THE SERVICING.
Don't know if I need the new unit or not. I am going to have to get more opinions but will not buy from Direct because even though Diego struggled to get me the best deal...from his relative probably... they are overpriced. Pricing being out of line and a feeling they are not honest is the reasons I won't be working with this company. I don't want people around my house I can't trust. I'm along on SS income and don't need the worries and the aggravation. In closing, I wonder what happened to the 4 year warranty which I could never get an answer. Call Cape Coral inspectors if you need help. They helped me.

My parents had Direct Air come for a service call 3 yrs. ago and were charged $569.99 to clean and check the unit ($34.99), sanitize the ducts($285), and replace 2 uv bulbs($250). Then they were told they needed a new unit(the 6 yr.old Trane was working just fine- my parents just wanted to have maintenance) and so trusted this company and had a new unit put in 3 yrs. ago(2012). In Feb. 2015, they were charged $2575 for an Emerson Media filter system and a maintenance call which included a duct sanitize package. Suspecting that they were way over charged, I called another A/C company who came out to look at the work done. He called a supplier and the Emerson media filter was only $135! So, bottom line they were way over charged. They were also told they no longer need indoor filters, which this A/C guy said most definitely we do to keep ducts inside clean! Not to mention Direct Air replaced a breaker 2 yrs. ago, supposedly a new one, that never worked from day one. Had an electrician check it on 2/20/15(they needed heat a couple of nights ago) and he said it was a used breaker-it was sawed off another unit and that was why it never worked! The electrician said they have not made this type of breaker in 5 yrs as they do not allow these particular of breaker boxes anymore(Federal Pacific-out of code apparently). So, my parents had to have a new box put in(for just just a little more than what they were charged for the used non working breaker). needless, to say, I am very upset that my elderly parents have been taken for a ride! Shame on this company for taking advantage of people!

Their phone rep said Direct Air is no longer associated with Vans, and Direct now has an A+ rating with the BBB. I checked this online while speaking with the rep and told their was no such rating. (I always try to stall and keep these DNC violators on the phone as long as possible--time is money, and it's their loss). Anyway, the rep babbled on and on about having service in my area, North Port, when in fact I live in Sarasota. I let her babble on and on for a long time, asked her nonsensical questions, and then told her that I saw a bunch of negative reviews against the company.
Rep: "(sigh of frustration) "Do you want us to come out to service your a/c, or are you just going to harass me?"
Me: "It's YOU who is harassing ME, %^#$*@! (hang up phone)

i bought a unit from these people in july, in september it failed inspection. the inspector said there was faulty wiring and it could be dangerous. finally a guy shows up to do so called maintenance, tried to sell me stuff without doing much else. i told him about the inspection again. he took the paperwork from the inspector and sent someone else to do the repair. when the new guy showed up he did not have the parts required to do the repair. i called to ask about this since every time they come out i have to take time off from work. the customer service person shirley could not come to the phone. after the first hour of waiting for a return call i contacted one of the lawyers i work with and he said he would look into taking legal action against them for putting my family in danger with the faulty wiring. after the second hour i called a county commissioner who said to call the county office and see what i could do about their license since the company that insures them would not accept them not doing the repairs in the legal amount of time. Now we will see if in the new year they have a license left in the state of florida maybe hitting them in the pocket book will let them know that you can not treat people this way

I have a high-end lennox Heat Pump I installed 2 years ago. I called Direct heating & Cooling for the annual check-up. Gary, the tech told my wife the evaporator had a leak and the cost would be $1900 to replace it. After further inspection he told my wife there was signs of mold and it would be better to replace the whole unit. I didn't bother to ask him how much that would be. Oh! he also told me my equipment was out of warrantee. Thing is...I have a 10 year warrantee. Can't wait to get back home to see what the real problem is. I wouldn't but it pass these guys to sabotage something like put a little hole in the evaporator. I will find out when I get home. Watch for DIRECT HEATING & COOLING!

Same things happened to me in 2011. What a shame that this company is still in business. People need to get the word out that these people are crooks! They prey on the elderly in Florida and screw them over big time!
