Very aggressive and often imply that the collectors are lawyers when they are not. They also contact other people you might know and pass along info and make threats to sue them for your debts. Best solution is to report them to the Feds and keep careful notes.
They call remote family members to pass along information and try to intimidate them into giving information about you. Did this even while they had a direct line and were in contact with me on bills. Very unethical behavior in my opinion and needs to be investigated by the Comptroller and Federal Trade Commission. The supervisor argues that if you respond you are "threatening" them. One of the most unprofessional and dissappointing corporate operations I have seen.
They have zero loyalty and have gone to a pure "bottom line" attitude. Longstanding relationships mean nothing anymore and they will drop you like a hot potato if you have a problem.
Its a very sad situation for a company founded on principals of loyalty and honor among officers to decline to something more like a local pawn shop (appologies to pawn shops!) or payday loan operation.
There is a real problem with the PHH subsidiary of USAA and it is as described above. It could be reverse discrimination and it could be more, but they need to look into fixing it before it tarnishes the USAA reputation more than it has. I have heard from friends who are long time members that this area is a real problem and USAA is not doing anything about it.
