The same happend to me just now. $24.95. I am so pissed! How did they manage to steal my account information? How are these guys not in prison? We need to file a lawsuit.
If someone will start the class action lawsuit then I am sure many people will get on board. They also give your account information to another company and they charge your account anywhere from $19.95 up to $45.00. This is about as illegal as it gets. They should all end up in prison.
Here is a follow up. I called both places and the agreed to refund my money and cancel anything way too easily. That is proof enough they know what they are doing is illegal. And yes they do get your account info from Intelius. Some people said it was hard to get through to them. I really didn't have any trouble.
Only little snag I ran into was lady at Intelius. She went on this spiel about how the $1.95 charge was discounted from $4.95 for using the 7 day trial then charged for $19.95 after and this is clearly stated when you purchase the search. I said nothing for like 10 seconds then told her I already did my research on this company and there have been many complaints of fraud from people that had money stolen. She had no rebuttal and immediately cancelled everything and agreed to do a full refund.
I had the same problem. They also gave my account info to another company called twenty4proplus and the stole $24.95 from my account. Called both companies today. The twenty4 place agreed to refund my money like I was calling information for a number to Wal-Mart. That alone shows they know what they are doing is illegal. Also that it must happen so much they probably have a guy that does nothing but refund money all day.
Intelius tried to pull some crap. The lady said the $1.95 was discounted from $4.95 for signing up for a 7 day trial that had to be canceled in that time and that it clearly states this when you pay for this service. Yes they do know what they are doing. Why are they still in business? Anyone that complains gets their money back and probably could care less after that. I personally don't care enough to press any charges now that I am done with them. I am sure they make enough off people that just don't notice the money missing from their account.
Even if they are showing somewhere on the purchase form the extra charges I doubt it means they "can't" get in serious trouble. The fact that it is hidden enough to deceive people, and it seems to be effective, is enough reason for it to still be unlawful.
I hope anyone affected come across this page just so they do know they are a victim.
Do NOT accept anything less than a full refund! I demand you call them back and get harsh with them. They know what they are doing. They tried to tell me no refund then I told them about all the fraud complaints of them stealing money. They agreed to give a full refund immediately with no argument. Call them back ASAP and tell them you already know about their fraud.
