This happens all the time. if you dont pay the settlement amount in full, with a letter stating it is the agreed upon settlement, and copy of the letter, agencies try this ploy to get the balance. Unless you have a slick attorney on retainer you are going to be stuck paying the balance.

I know you wont like this, but a paid in full credit line looks alot better than a settled credit line, from a lending perspective.

Take that for what it is.
Contact all three bureaus and request to make a consumer statement. Advise them that the bill is disputed. Also, request the name of the original creditor, and followup with them as well. I would contact an attorney to contact the agency and pursue suit if they do not reply.
I dont know where to start. This is a debt for you kid, who is adult aged? Debt collectors use skip tracing sources to obtain telephone numbers of debtors, relatives, nearbys, employments, etc. this is perfectly legal under FDCPA. now, if they call your home, you can request they no longer call you. I would also send them a cert letter so you have receipt of that request. If they continue to call after said receipt, then you have a case to sue for harassment.

Also, if they disclose this debt, which i am assuming is not yours, to you, then they again are breaking FDCPA. Per Fair Debt, anyone can sue a debt collector for damages.

If it were me I would tell my little debtor child to contact these folks and make arrangements to pay their bill. I would make sure they did it and also make sure the agency remove all ocntact info from their records. Which should be included in your cert mail to them.

If these activites continue, I would hire an attorney to address possible suit, and get a settlement.

The Huff.Post threat is ridiculous.

I would send a kid in with a camcorder and record the session. Then present it the the principle, the local school board, and the board of education. If nothing happened at that point, i would release it to the local network news team.

You are in a tough spot. The mailers will never end. If they send you return envelopes for your payment send it back to them empty with no return address on it. At least you will know you are making them pay for all their postage.

wow. i completely missed the acting class thing. I would say, stop going to the school, and tell everyone you know.
You also originally said they are claiming they are from the legal department, not a law office as you try to deflect criticism. You claim your kids have no phone. Poppeycock! Everyone has access to a phone, cell, home, friends, work or other. Take the advice given or dont but dont try to come back and rip someone for great advice!

If you know the law why are you posting at all? Sue for damages. you claim the debt is now paid, prove it! have your kid take some responsibility instead of shoving his/her head under the sand.

Post on Huff, who gives a rip. That liberal garbage is a joke.
and it is the 'fair debt collections practice act, ' at least get that right.

I seached for your story and got a phishing warning. is that another of your tricks?

what did you do with the money the buyers paid? and why would you post a fake pic? that was just ignorant. to pawn something off that you knew was not the same thing is illegal.

hey, the chick in the photo is kinda hawt. she still with you?

medical providers file insurance for your convenience only. it is always your responsibility to make sure claims are filed timely and correctly. you even signed their provider form stating you are ultimately responsible.

you are stuck as it is Your bill. pay up or pay the consequences.

uh. sorry but you are on the hook for not only the original bill amount but now court charges as well. The only thing they can do to you is obtain a judgment, put a lien on your property, and try to garnish your wages. Since you have made this all so easy for them, you now have no leg to stand on.

pay your bill in full, immediately. rude and arrogance is not against the law.
this is hope and change under blowhama
good luck.
dani, it is probably a terrible idea for you to respond to a complaint against the company you work for. and you are only partially correct on communications. You should know that a third party is able to receive the OK from the consumer to fax information.

get it right and stop responding to NRA complaints.

call obama. he will help you.
Good comments by maggie. if you can record the next call, start in a very polite manner, try to get them to break fair debt, interrupt them so they cant state the mini-miranda statement as required on every communication. get them not verifying you correctly, anything, before dropping the bomb on them .

then they are busted!
