We rented a home via an online site. We paid both a "Cleaning Fee" ($200.00) and "Pet Fee" ($60.00). Prior to our arrival, the owner sent a message stating that she had issues with the previous two renters and was at risk of losing her rental license. I contacted the owner assuring her that she would not have issues with us. In addition, I asked if there were any concerns about our dogs and the neighbors, which she replied "No problem with dogs! We all have them." The owner reached out over a week after our stay asking how many dogs were at the property. She said "I don't have any record of approval of dogs." I sent the screenshots of the "Pet Fee" we paid in addition to the text messages we exchanged discussing the dogs. The owner proceeded to charge our credit card for an additional $175.00 after we already paid $260.00. The owner is preying on renters to find additional ways to charge them after their stays. She most likely accused the previous renters of things that never happened, but wanted to make additional money from them, hence the email she sent before our stay. It was a red flag, but I never had issues with owners and renting from the site so I ignored it. The owner of this rental is a scam artist and renters need to beware.

Just discovered this, shocked but then remembered her.
She stayed May 28-31. Here are my notes from 6/9/2021:
“NEVER again…threaten me with her lawyer, called me a scammer & plans to report me to BBB. She had multiple dogs, never would tell me how many. Cleaners had mounds of dog hair to clean, couches needed extra cleaning & room #4 was a stinky mess. VRBO approved $175 extra cleaning fee. “
I didn't cross reference how many dogs she paid for on the VRBO booking site and her text referencing dog"s". The VRBO page indicated $20/day per each dog, you can see she paid for 1 dog.
Following her stay I reached out to her about the mass amount of dog hair throughout the house, asking how many dogs, she didn't respond (as you can see from my comments with VRBO) .
The additional fee was for above normal cleaning due to multiple dogs (still don't know how many she had). Never charged her for the extra dogs.
After VRBO approved the additional cleaning fee she reappeared. She had 0 reviews on VRBO and when I googled her name she had posted 2 other reviews just as threatening as she was with me. Twenty years of hosting with nothing like this.
