On June 4. Late afternoon I broke my right arm by throwing a pitch! This is the second time this has happened; the first time MSJ admitted me to the hospital and performed surgery, that was 2 years ago. On Friday morning, 4 am, the doctor told me the x-ray showed a broken arm in the same place as before despite a plate and 13 screws! I had been released to return to the baseball team by my surgeon. Now the doctor sent me home to call the surgeon myself to get the care I need! My surgeon won’t see me without new referral from my primary doctor who doesn’t have an opening for two weeks! I am in severe pain and don’t want to get hooked on Oxy! How could the ER have sent me home without treatment for my arm?!

Desired outcome: To get the treatment for my broken arm! I need surgery but cannot see the surgeon without a referral which will take two weeks! I am in terrible pain.

Oh my goodness — this is absolutely not okay. You have a re‑broken arm in the same place as a previous surgery, hardware already in there, and they sent you home with painkillers and a phone number? That is not standard of care. That is abandonment. You need an orthopedist to look at that arm today — not in two weeks. I am so angry on your behalf. Please go to a different ER right now if you can — UC Davis, Sutter, anywhere else. Tell them “prior ORIF, same bone re‑fractured, ER discharged without orthopedic consult.” Do not leave until an orthopedist sees you. You are not being dramatic. This is urgent. I am so sorry you are going through this alone. You deserve better.
