My family applied a for a rental home leased by Mainstreet Renewals in Lithonia, Georgia. I received a phone call from an agent named Taylor on the morning of June 11,2025 congratulating me on our application being approved for the home. We were overjoyed to be chosen as tenants for the home because we loved the home and was excited to be chosen. When I spoke with Taylor, I told I was busy at work. I told her that I go to lunch at 1:00 pm and could speak in greater detail then. She told me she her lunch ends at 1:00 and she would call me then. When we spoke in great detail about the home. She sent us a lease for the home while we were speaking. I told her we would look over the lease and sing it when I get off work at 4:00 pm. She sent the lease and told her we would not need to purchase renters' insurance with Mainstreet. She then cancelled the lease and emailed a corrected lease. She then cancelled the lease before we were able to get off work and reads it. When I spoke with her the next day, she said that our lease was cancelled because someone else paid their money for the house before we did. And it was first come first served. She did not tell me she sent lease approval to someone else. We were shocked that she would not allow us time to read the lease and pay all fees that were due. It was very heartbreaking we were treated that way. She treated unfairly and should never have cancelled our approved lease. We have until the end of this month to find a home or be homeless because of her. Now we are left scrambling to find a home somewhere or be put out on the street. I have heard many horror stories about Mainstreet Renewal, now I have one of my own to tell. We wanted that house and she should not been able to play a game of give and take. I now know that Mainstreet has the most horrible business practices I have ever encountered. Something should be done about this. It isn't right to play dirty games with someone's life. I am going to report this to the BBB and the $180 me and two adult children paid in application fees should be promptly returned to us at the very least. And you should be ashamed of the horrible customer service we received. Now someone else gets to enjoy a home that rightly should be ours. If you are playing a game of first come first served, then you should be also playing first approved. How can you approve more than one application at a time for the same home.
Country of complaint: United States
Desired outcome: Refund of application fees and Taylor should be fired for poor customer service. I really want our approved applications reinstated.
