I started getting harassing phone calls 3 months ago. I ignored them for awhile because I thought they were calls about preapproval for loans (which I am also getting a lot of). I decided to finally see what these numbers were all about. This lady is saying I have a judgment against me for a loan I took out and there have been numerous attempts to deliver documents to my address and I have been unresponsive. Due to this I am being sued for $4000. The loan (supposedly) was for $1000 but the fees and other costs jack up the price. I have never heard of Loan Shop. She was very difficult to talk with, not letting me speak and she even hung up on me when she didn't like what I had to say. She refused to give me an address or phone number where I can speak to someone from Loan Shop to hash this out, because this is Not my debt. I was extremely calm because like I said she was very difficult to talk to and I wanted as much information as possible. She would not tell me where the suit was filed (city/state). She said all those questions I had were forfeited when I didn't respond to the letters. I never received letters, how can I respond? She said I can get that information when I go to court. So the brief moment she allowed me to talk I explained to her I don't know who this company is and this was the first time I am hearing about this supposed loan I took out. I explained I have been victim to fraud 2X in the past 2 years. I can provide proof because my bank has had to shut my accounts down twice and reissue me cards. (I feel like this is identity theft or just flat out scam. I did not tell her that though, she would of hung up on me). She pretty much laughed and mocked me saying they showed I.D. What? Ok, well it's not me, I have a hard time excepting that someone showed my I.D. to obtain a pay day loan. And if this is possible then it is identity theft for sure. After this brief exchange that was the last time I was able to say anything and the harassing calls continue. I have contacted a few lawyers dealing with consumer debt/fraud and I have yet to find one. They say they can not help me. So here I am trying to find a way to help myself. I googled Loan Shop and have tried to call the number on their website but it always busy so I am unable to speak to them to see if my name is registered as a client. I have every intention of suing the crap out of these people when I figure out how to contact them to verify what this lady told me. I'm going to pause right here and back up a moment. In the middle of my conversation with this lady there was a point were she did make a comment that my case hasn't been filed in court yet and I have the opportunity to take advantage of certain laws the government has for the debtor to pay off debts at a much lower cost. I just simply said this debt is not mine and I'm not going to pay someone else's debt. She also said because I have not responded to any of the letters sent they can have the court take the money out of my accounts without being present in court or having the ability to defend myself. This is another reason I think this is a scam. Not sure though I am very concerned that they could potentially gain access to my accounts. If anyone has any advice or know of a lawyer that could help me that would be great!
