Jean Francois Latreille review: Excessive Billing 1

I hired Jean Francois Latreille to handle a file against another firm, BCF. I gave him a retainer. He advised me that he could do the work. Over the next month his firm billed me for 14 hours of work. He then received a call from BCF and BCF advised that they would no longer send his firm work if he continued to represent me. He advised me that he was going to drop the case because BCF was a bigger client. I had to start again with a new lawyer. Luckily for him, the amount I provided as a retainer equalled the amount of the work he did because I did not receive a refund for any balance left in trust.

In Quebec, they have an arbitration service available for lawyer accounts but you must file your request with 45 days of the account. He prepared and dated his accounts but mailed them out over a month later so that you can not use this service.

I understand there can be conflicts but he should have advised of the conflict one month earlier and before he charged me thousands of dollars for 14 hours of work that were totally without value.

He took my money and delivered nothing of value.

There are so many good lawyers in Quebec, you should avoid Jean Francois Latreille.
