Henley Apartments of Alexandria, VA review: Rental deposit return

On April 2, 2022, my husband and I gave $500 deposit to Henley to secure an apartment. Initially the application was denied and then accepted with conditions. Because of the initial denial, we decided on another apartment. Henley was to return our deposit, but we lost the application fee of $100. It's been over a month and we have yet to receive our $500. We have been given numerous excuses why..."it takes 45 days... it was mailed April 11th... putting a tracer on it". We requested the funds be sent to the leasing office and we would pick it up from there because we were in transit. Although, the leasing manager told us she would have the return of our money expedited, we still haven't received it. Excuse after excuse and we are frustrated with this leasing company. I don't understand why the money was supposedly sent to their accounting department when the application was not finalized... it was not a done deal! Help us get our money back!
