I called them all the way from the U.S, and let me tell you, I spent a crazy amount of time waiting on the line. And don't even get me started on the expensive calling rates. It's like they want to drain your wallet while you wait for them to pick up.

But guess what? When someone finally did pick up, they were grumpy as heck. I mean, come on, is it too much to ask for a little bit of friendliness? It's not like I'm calling just for fun, you know? I had some serious issues that needed to be resolved, and I expected them to be handled in a timely manner. But nope, not with GTBank. They take their sweet time, dragging things out for months. I mean, who has that kind of patience?

Let me tell you, I wouldn't recommend GTBank to anyone. Not even my worst enemy. Their customer care is a total disaster. I've dealt with a lot of organizations in my life, but I've never had such a terrible experience with their customer service. It's like they don't even care about their customers. So yeah, take my advice and stay far away from GTBank. Trust me, you'll thank me later.

If you're considering opening an account with GTBank, I strongly advise against it. They have a tendency to take your money without any valid reason. You'll find yourself facing numerous debits on your account that you can't explain. And if you happen to encounter an issue with a POS/WEB purchase or a duplicate debit, don't bother expecting GTBank to refund your money. They simply won't do it. And don't even bother reaching out to their customer care, because they won't be able to help you either. In fact, I've never had a single problem resolved by a GTBank customer care representative.

I went to the Guaranty Trust Bank (gtbank.com) branch in Ijebu Ode to inquire about my dormant account and possibly reopen it for international school fee payment. When I entered, I saw a staff member wearing an orange top, so I approached them and tried to explain my situation. However, they didn't even listen to what I had to say and rudely told me to join the queue. They didn't even return my greetings! I was really upset and expressed my dissatisfaction.

Luckily, a senior staff member noticed the commotion and apologized for the behavior of their colleague. They asked how they could assist me, so I explained my situation once again. Surprisingly, they also told me to join the queue. I asked if I needed to fill out any forms, and they directed me to pick up an activation form. I couldn't help but think to myself, what if I hadn't asked about the form? Would I have wasted even more time waiting in the wrong queue, only to be told later that I needed to fill out a form? It seemed like a confusing process.

After filling out the form, which already had my name written on it, I was still asked to verbally call out my name. This was something I had never experienced at any other branch before. It made me feel like I was in a small, disorganized mom and pop store rather than a reputable bank like GTB. Needless to say, I am 100% dissatisfied with my experience at the Ijebu Ode branch.

Using GTBank as a trusted bank when you're abroad is the worst mistake you can make. I've been banking with GTBank for over 10 years, and my experiences with them since I traveled have been horrible. Let me share my recent experience:

My ATM card expired, and my token stopped working, so I couldn't do online transactions. I filled out a form and requested a token via proxy pick up. They told me my signature was irregular. I called multiple times and explained that I signed this signature over ten years ago, so I needed to see it again to replicate it. But they refused to show me. I begged for a video call just to authenticate me and ask any questions, but they refused. One of the call agents advised me to contact my account officer for help, so I did. But once again, I received zero support from him. I called again, and they told me to dial *737*... with a registered number on file. I asked if this applied to residents abroad, and the agent said yes. I dialed the code and got an error message. I stayed up until 1 am my time just so I could chat with an agent via WhatsApp! When I explained my situation, they told me I couldn't use that code if I'm outside Nigeria. The agent was rude and abruptly ended the chat. So now I have money in GTBank, but I can't access it because they make things extremely difficult for residents outside Nigeria.

Another horrible system they have for customers abroad who want to change their address is that customers are required to notarize documents before making such changes. They don't consider that people frequently relocate abroad, and it's not like Nigeria! So subjecting customers to always notarize these documents before an address change is unfair and a total waste of money for customers. When customers abroad provide a utility bill and bank statement with the same information, that should be enough for an address change. I provided GTBank with my bank statement abroad and a stamp from the bank, along with a utility bill paid from the same account. Apparently, that wasn't enough to change my address. The day I set foot in Nigeria, my first plan is to close down all my accounts with them.

To anyone thinking about opening an account with GTBank, please don't.
GTBank will rob you of your hard earned money for no reason at all. Endless debits on your account. If there's a POS/WEB purchase dispense error or probably a duplicate debit, just forget about that money because GTBank will never refund it. And don't even think about contacting their customers care, it will never be resolved.

I attendant your branch at Ijebu Ode to inquire about my dormant account and possibly to reopen it for international school fee payment. I greeted a staff on Orange top and the response I got was to join the queue without even listening to was I have to say nor returned my greetings I was rebuked and I register my displeasure, one of the senior staff apologized and asked what she could do to assist, I explained to her and she said I should join the queue, I asked if I need to fill any form and she directed me to pick activate form. I thought within myself, so if I had not asked her if I would need to fill a form or not I would possibly stay on the queue and when it gets to my turn an agent would likely tell me to pick an activation form and fill same as my encounter with the first agent, if I had join the queue without asking questions, I'll probably be referred to different desk or department after wasting time on a wrong queue. After filling of form which have my names written I was still asked to call my name verbally. I have never experienced such treatment with any branches before. GTB, Ijebu Ode branch is like a mom and pop store. I am 100% dissatisfied!
