Google TV This App 0/5 as YouTube REALLY! GPM&T/GPM BEST of movies & music apps, but no more

Can we not have option of selecting ¼, ½, ¾ stars as well a full like other companies and services for feedback/reviews. Would think having more DATA, more useful, as veryone can’t be wrong, till they are
Not a fan of new upgrade and UI.
Easier with GPM to navigate and see media bought, or rented.

Also, imo, having a feedback/ratings system on an App….ISS FEEDBACK, and asking ppl to go to app specific and feedback and type everything again, waste of time ; as a lot of the times, said Apps won’t open, crash, etc….and it’s frustrating AND WHY WE ALL COME HERE.

It’s either not response, or CS person; but honestly, why not copy/paste the REVIEW and submit as Tier 2 (or e if warranted….even 4) for those who gets”replies” at least; b/c I’m sure there’s abackhaul/end connected to apps, reviews, and “issue” being sorted. But getting a response that has us going to sites can’t open, apps that don’t work, or feedback in said apps to tell story again, works 50% of time and imo, that being generous; and is WHY VERYONE treats reviews as feedback b/c they are both

Google TV Can’t download the videos I’d purchased

Everything was peaches until by mistake I deleted the movie I’d purchased. I tried to download it again and the second movie I’ve purchased from this app but I can’t download it. The main reason I got this app and made purchases was because of my 2 year old who loves “Finding Dory” so I bought the movie from Google Play. It worked sure fine when I bought back in middle of December. I’d recently purchased “The Lion King” and my son loves it. I tried to download it to his iPad and by mistake I deleted his “Finding Dory” movie so I thought it wasn’t going to be a big deal if I just download it again but IT IS NOT WORKING! I have done everything... and when I mean everything, I did everything. Obviously got in touch with “Support” and the guy tried to help me as much as he could but didn’t solve the problem. I am upset that I can’t download the movies to my son’s iPad, we have to sit in traffic for near two hrs and that was my only way to keep him entertained but not anymore. Please GOOGLE have an update soon and fix this issue. Sincerely, a desperate mom!

Google TV Fail

Okay, so I intended to carry on using Google Play TV & Movies after going to iPhone as I had actually paid for a few things. Well guess what, the app won’t let me download a movie I bought, and now I cannot use the stupid thing to login to the play tv & movie app on a smart tv. What the heck guys!? I use android for nearly 6yrs and now I’m ready to just about wash my hands of it. I keep up with all your ridiculous login demands, hop through your hoops and yet you’re stuff is NOT working when it’s things “I PAID FOR” that is NOT acceptable. Thus my reason for the title, you are failing. When someone pays for something, and you make a sub standard app because you hate apple, this makes you seem genuinely petty. You lost me to your phones when they nearly doubled in cost, and the insurance on the phone tripled. Yet apple stay at competitive prices and higher functionality. This is why so many won’t even consider Android. You make it too hard, ask too much and your products don’t always work. FYI I’m copying and sending this through email to a friend. She is right, this isn’t acceptable.

Google TV Just Got it.already over it!

I received a gift card for Google play and was excited to finally use it to purchase a movie! I am very disappointed however that I have been unable to watch the movie that I purchased. I have tried to watch it several ways, through the app, on my Apple TV, through my headphones, and not a single way works! On the screen sometimes I can hear the sound but I cannot see the picture and other times I see the picture with no sound. I can’t believe that I can’t even plug-in Bluetooth earphones because if you do it will not play. I have tried several times to play the movie but to no avail. I am really frustrated! I am very surprised at a product like this from Google. I sure hope that this app gets fixed. Google has such good products it doesn’t make sense to have a product like this if it is not good and brings down your brand. It’s sad to say but one negative can cancel out so many positives. That just seems the nature of the human condition. With that being said I like your other products...but not this one. Please fix it. I’d like to watch my movie and I am nervous to purchase any more movies with my gift card!

Google TV Typical Google Train Wreck

There are so many things wrong with this app
(and Google products in general) that it boggles the mind. There are too many bizarre malfunctions to cover in a review, but I’ll name a few of my favorites. (1)You can’t scrub forward or back without encountering an endless spinning wheel in the middle of the screen that remains in place until you exit and reload. This has persisted for years. (2) Movies now default to audio voiceover mode for the visually impaired, and there’s no apparent way to disable this feature in the settings. So you just want to watch a movie like everyone else, and there’s suddenly a weird voice talking over the action. There’s a potential workaround to disable it, but it involves some strange nonsense about selecting the second duplicate “English” setting on the menu before exiting and reloading. (Makes zero sense, and just trying to explain what’s happening sounds bananas and is exhausting). (3) You can’t go back to the beginning of the movie. You just can’t. It freezes. You try again, and it freezes again. Finally, randomly, it works. You get the point, and this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Google TV Garbage UI

I’m boggled by the user interface here. Upset that Friends was leaving Netflix, I bought the entire series for only $50 through Google Play. Great deal! However, the player is crap. First of all, it’s not separated by season. If I want to watch something later in the series, I have to scroll through allllll the episodes before it. It’s also not super obvious where you left off. The episode titles also do not fit on the tiles, not even close. So basically the only info you get is “Season 4 episode 2...The One...” (“The One” is how all the episode titles start). If you leave it on binge watching mode, the next episode starts before the current one is over (seriously! How is this an issue in this day and age?). If you turn binge watch mode off, then once an episode ends, it goes back to the menu with all the episodes, but not scrolled to the episode you just watched or anywhere near there. There is a “Last Watched” indicator on the last watched episode but you have to be right on top of the episode tile to see it. Lastly, there is no option to go back 10-15 seconds like with most other streaming services. Everything about this UI is so so so bad.

Google TV Horrible app deleted all of my downloaded content now can’t re download the

So I had a number of tv shows on the google play movies app, downloaded, all good, instead of having the iTunes version since google play versions are smaller file sizes, which is a nice thing, but I went to look at my play app 3 nights ago, and it says I need to restore my downloads and re download them, so I did that, nothing downloads, they all get stuck at 1 percent, and then it either crashes, says I’m not authorized to download them, or says I need to restore them, worthless app, I guess google doesn’t care since we’re not using an android device, but rather an iOS or iPadOS device, I’ve had these for a while as I used to be an android user, but switched to iPhone and iPad in 2014. So upset, I had like 60GBs free, now down to 20GBs on my iPhone cause I had to download them from the iTunes Store, luckily I had already purchased them, so I didn’t need to spend anything, just annoying, thought it was just a glitch, but now see many people writing they have similar issues, google please fix this, it’s annoying, I liked the old app, it would download them much faster, and easier and better design, hate the new app, was one of my favorite apps, oh well, here’s to hoping google actually fixes these issues.

Google TV What Kind of a Joke is This?

This app is terrible!
How in the world did Google put this out?
I expected a lot more from them.
Purchased a movie ($25 for 48 hour access) and was never able to make it through the entire film as the picture would begin jumping to random parts of the movie though the audio continued as if nothing happened to the picture.
We tried everything (close app and reopen, uninstall and reinstall app, go through the website instead of the app, fast forward, rewind, iPad, iPhone) but nothing worked.
I finally started a chat with Customer Service (Kristy P) after over a dozen unsuccessful attempts to view this movie within less than a day and was promised a refund after chatting back and forth for over an hour and twenty minutes (the delay is especially ridiculous considering I was put on hold for the majority of the time because the system kept “kicking back the request” and I was repeatedly told “I will check back within five minutes” many times). After waiting for over an hour, I was then told to complete more “steps” after initially being told a refund would not be an issue and could be completed promptly.
NEVER AGAIN!
I’ll stick with Netflix and Hulu for now and I won’t hold my breath for that refund ($25 lesson learned).

Google TV Why not Apple TV?

Wouldn’t the Google TV app be a perfect candidate for availability on the Apple TV? Like, wouldn’t I want to watch TV on my TV?

I can think of three reasons why:
1) Pushing use of Chromecast, but this is aimed at people already in the Apple ecosystem (and I don’t want to cast/airplay, which is why I chose to connect what is essentially a computer to my TV in the form of the Apple TV)
2) Users unable to purchase content from the play store on the Apple TV itself, so it would solely be used for consuming content
3) Not as much user or usage data available to make the platform worth while

I was a big-time Google user (Pixel phone, Google assistants in every room, chrome book), but since switched to Apple ecosystem. Instead of waiting for Google to improve the media experience on my platforms of choice (Google TV was too little too late) with non-commital dabbling with things like iOS support but not TVOS support, it was easier to just walk away from my purchase and start over on iTunes. If Google committed to providing my 4K content on all my devices, Google’s video service would have been a slam dunk.

I wish I could have my library at the quality I purchased it on the device I want to watch it. Who else could do that besides Google? And they choose not to. Bummer.

Google TV Dumpster Fire of UI and UX

For a Google product, this app is astonishing awful. I’ve used more of it recently for tv shows I love that have left Netflix and other streaming platforms. Here are the problem areas: 1) you can purchase all seasons of a series (1-10) but the interface doesn’t acknowledge you bought all of them and doesn’t separate them out. So you have to search hundreds of episodes in a single line and the same seasons you purchased that are broken out by season ask you to purchase them again to view them in that menu. It’s absurd. 2) there is no “return to view” or “continue watching” orientation in the UI except the one episode you were in anchored at the top of the experience. Once you complete that episode, you have to go back to the menu and find where you were and play the next episode. 3) the experience claims to allow “binge watching” but most shows do not auto play the next episode even when the feature is turned on. After each episode you have to go find your place and play the next which makes it even harder when 1) and 2) above are so poor. Honestly guys, put your celebrated “design sprints” in action and get the right folks from product, ux and design in a room and fix this [censored]show. And maybe look at how seasons are sold and appear in the UI vs. buying each individual episode. Not rocket science here

Google TV Apple TV vs Google TV

Google TV has very low bit rates and no HDR/Dolby Vision support with extreme compression artifacts and low clarity on iPhones and most likely Android Smartphones. The more important download quality on Google TV is even worse than the streaming quality and again, has no HDR/Dolby Vision support. As there are Smartphones on Android and iOS with 1 terabyte storage options, having high-quality downloads has become more important than the streaming aspect, thus Google TV receives an F for image quality and convenience. Google TV offers no extra content with your purchase like Apple TV does. This means you do not get deleted scenes, concept art, and other special content. All of this of course does not mean that you will pay less. Google TV has the same or a similar price for movies and TV shows. Therefore, Apple TV is superior in every way, as it has far higher streaming quality and supports HDR/Dolby Vision, and has the best download quality right now with full HDR/Dolby Vision support. Apple TV: Overall grade B, could have higher image quality in downloads and streaming and iTunes extras content could be made available offline. Google TV: Overall grade F, very low quality with no HDR/Dolby Vision support in downloads and streaming and no extra content, the price is comparable to other superior services.

Google TV iOS Errors: iOS 14.0.1

iPHONE 8+ :

1. When watching any movie/show, every two minutes, the app says “THERE WAS A PROBLEM WHILE PLAYING [-11866] TOUCH TO RETRY” which causes me to exit the movie and come back. It plays for two minutes then does it again.

2. When watching a movie/show, the movie freezes on a scene and continues the audio and captions.

3. When I click play for any movie/show, the app sometimes says “THERE WAS A PROBLEM WHILE PLAYING [-11866] TOUCH TO RETRY” and I have to play another movie/show on the app to get the previous to work.

iPAD (7TH GENERATION)

1. When watching any movie/show, every two minutes, the app says “THERE WAS A PROBLEM WHILE PLAYING [-11866] TOUCH TO RETRY” which causes me to exit the movie and come back. It plays for two minutes then does it again.

2. When watching any movie/show, the movie rewinds back to ten seconds by itself and continues to play.

3. When I click play for any movie/show, the app sometimes says “THERE WAS A PROBLEM WHILE PLAYING [-11866] TOUCH TO RETRY” and I have to play another movie/show on the app to get the previous to work.

OPINION:

I highly respect Google and the outstanding work they do with electronics and such, but I really feel that the Google Play Movies interface could be seriously updated. Google is too advanced to allow an app, it’s website, and it’s interface to be this outdated. Please consider fixing this. Thank you so much.

Google TV A little frustrating

Hello, there is this glitch or maybe something that I just don’t understand that I’m doing wrong but I can’t not connect to the tv with the remote. The only reason I have the app.

My roommate started to use his google tv device due to our Roku tv having quit after years of service. At first, I actually kind of enjoyed the remote touch pad feature but then after connecting successful through shared wifi about only four days, it stopped connecting.

It recognizes the same internet connect but when I go to select it … nothing. It even lets me ‘click it’ but nothing. My roommates think it’s because it can only connect to one phone at a time? I did delete it, re-install it, wait a couple days, do the same thing, made phone forget network, reconnected, updated after waiting for an update, tried all these in different variations and nothing. Only works with one phone and it’s not mine.

We don’t have another remote and I’ve been having to download third party remotes that sometimes works depending on how many ads I watch. I work weird hours and get home super late, everyone’s asleep and I’m stuck figuring out this app or how to chromecast till I give up and just cast YouTube. We all have different log ins for all the different streaming sights. Can’t just cast it all unfortunately.

I don’t need a complicated remote. I just need a remote that works. I’ve had zero problems with Roku remote app. I don’t understand why Roku and apps that make you watch ADs figured this out and google hasn’t. ‍♀️

Google TV Movie issue

I purchased the set of 3 John Wick movies. Towards the end of the second movie one of the following would occur: the sound would stop playing with picture only. The sound would continue but the picture would suddenly flip back to part of the beginning of the movie while
Still playing sound from where I just was. I would log off and reset my phone and go back in and it would pick up where it left off but then would do it again a few minutes later. I did 5 attempts before I finally got to see the end of the second movie. Now I’m watching the 3rd movie and it’s been fine all the way through until now the last 15 mins of movie it is doing the same exact thing. It’s very frustrating and at this point I’ve reset and still haven’t gotten to the end of the movie. If this was a rental I would really be angry (because I would be wasting my watch time before it could expire) and demand a refund. I hope I can see the end of this 3rd movie because I’ll want a partial refund if I can’t get it to work. DEVELOPERS... you’ve got some technical
Work to fix here! ASAP!

Update: it seems many people have this same complaint. I’ve also tried watching additional movies since then and the same thing happens, at the end of the movie. So it’s basically ruining the end of each movie you purchase and watch. On you don’t care about this problem because I don’t see you addressing it with anyone, anywhere. I thought this would be a great place to create a movie library. I guess you won’t be getting any more of my money. You stink.

Google TV So disappointed - THIS IS TRASH

This used to be my favorite app. I could binge watch the shows I purchased and seamlessly watch the movies as well from where I left off. Now this feature is gone as well as most of my purchases.

The auto play or binge mode has been turned off and now you have to go into the app and play each episode one by one. The home page is now a Cowboy telling you to go to the play store.

For a company as big as Google, they can’t seem to get a streaming service to properly work nor do they seem to care. Streaming is the new normal and this app has become the worst thing since Crackle.

If I have purchased a lot of content on this app, which is now useless. I will purchase on another platform and cancel everything Google and Android. This is the WORST experience I have ever had with any product ever. Shame on Google... You’re meant to be pioneers with tech. This is a step above Friendster. At least that worked properly.

Also, I am missing a lot of content I downloaded prior to the latest upgrade. I honestly spent roughly $900 on movies and tv shows, but that’s all gone to waste. What a crap UI.

All new streaming services including Peacock is better than this and that app needs tons of work. So so so disappointed.

I agree with the other comments. Now all of my purchases don’t register. I have to scroll through an entire SERIES to find the last episode I watched since the binge feature or “where you left off” has now been disabled. Seriously what is Google thinking. This went from my favorite app to the worst... The very WORST.

Google TV So difficult to use what I paid for

I paid for a rental. It was unwatchable because of how slow it would load. I don’t have cable or satellite and exclusively stream movies and shows through many platforms and almost never even have a glitch so my internet isn’t the problem. After spending 10 minutes of real time to just watch 2 minutes of the movie I moved on. I figured I would download it on my phone and then just plug my phone into the hdmi. Well it wouldn’t let me play it through the hdmi saying that it wasn’t supported. I get that they are probably trying to avoid large screenings of large movies but again it just was causing more difficulties. So then I went back to the hope that maybe resetting the internet and restarting the tv may help it load. But then it said that it had already been downloaded on another device so I would have to delete it off my phone before playing it. At this point I gave up for the fear of having to completely download it again after another potential failed attempt on the tv. I do understand that many of these problems come from a preventative measure to make sure people aren’t taking more than what they pay for. But at the end of the day I spent over a half hour trying to watch a movie that I paid to rent. I had the app on a phone and on a smart tv and was unable to watch it. I then went to another streaming service which then loaded right up and had no glitches so again it wasn’t my internet. The app loaded really fast when I put in my payment method but then when it came to receiving my product I was unable to get it.

Eventually I did watch the movie the next day on my tiny phone screen but with so many options for renting movies out there, I will not be using this one again.

Google TV Disaster of an app

I hate being one of those people who complain about an app rebuild/rebrand, but they really botched the move to the new Google TV experience. The old Play Movies and TV app wasn’t going to win any awards, but at least it worked! Some fun observations from a couple days with this app:

I bought Better Call Saul season 6 from Google.
• The episodes in the “Your Stuff” list are labeled as “season 7”, which doesn’t exist.
• The latest episode (which I was able to watch before the app updated) is missing on all devices that have Google TV installed.
• Searching for the show will give me the correct list of season 6 episodes, but the most recent ones all show as locked and only watchable on FuboTV (what?) despite me already having bought them. From Google.

Similar, but worse, problems with season 3 of What We Do in the Shadows:
• The episodes in “Your Stuff” are all missing episode titles, despite having them in the show screen if you search for the show.
• Trying to play any episode gets me an “Invalid argument (3)” error.
• The other day I tried playing one of the correctly-labeled episodes from the show screen and it played season 1 episodes instead.

And a couple other delights:
• Every time I start the app I get an on-screen notification that it crashed last time and would I like to – and then the notification disappears before I can do anything.
• When I do manage to play a video and send it to my Chromecast, the app crashes immediately.
• I tried leaving feedback from within the app. A modal popped up with a feedback form and then went completely white. Which is why I’m here wasting my evening leaving a 1-star review on the app instead of reaching out for support.

At this point I’m really kicking myself for having paid Google for any shows or movies, since it’s increasingly clear that I’m gambling on whether I’ll even be able to watch them.

Google TV Buggy & Below Google’s Standard

C’mon Google, this app is far below your app standard for bug free user experience. Why are you not giving this app the love it deserves?

My use case:
I bought an entire season of one TV show. I sometimes stop watching mid-episode. It’s pretty much the only thing I’m watching on the app at the moment. I simply want to return to the app and get the show and episode I was watching to start up where I last left off…

Instead, I get:
- app sometimes does and sometimes doesn’t recommend the last show I was watching.
- when it doesn’t remember, I have to dig and scroll scroll scroll in “Your Stuff” tab to find it.
- then, HALF the time, not all of the episodes are appearing in the list. (I bought episodes one by one for a while, before finally buying the whole season).
- in these cases, I have to go into my Profile > Settings > Reset application data. App restarts and then nothing is remembered about which episode and where at in it I left off. (I’ve had to do this 5-10 times.)
- finally, my full episodes list is back. Nothing is remembered. The text character limit is too short (often cut off with ellipses, not resized..) so I have to guess because I can’t read enough to get what an episode title is. Design thing.
- anyways, finally, I GUESS which episode it was where I left off. I press play. It takes a LOONG time to connect via Chromecast (c’min, that’s your tech…)
- finally, it connects. Now, I try to skip forward, but the progress bar is SO SMALL, and shortened/cutoff by text…that I have to turn my phone sideways to get into landscape mode so that the progress bar is actually usable.
- WHEN I do this, go into landscape mode, THE APP FREEZES, and I can’t get out of this frozen, broken view. Have to kill the app and restart at this point.

C’mon, my Google friends. Do you need me to write these QA test cases, fix these UX design bugs, and ship a Google-quality product for you?

Google TV Way to Screw the Pooch, Goog

Bottom Line: It works, but it's a terrible user experience defined by fragmentation and poor streaming management on an iPad from start to finish.

I came to watch 'The Interview' and wanted to politely pay my $6 to watch a goofy flick. Should be as simple as two clicks with charges made to my iTunes account through the app. Only...it's not.

Instead, I must open Safari, browse to the Google Play store, log in, find 'The Interview' and then click 'Rent.' After updating my card information with Google (in app purchase would've solved that), then I hike back over to the Google Play app to start the movie. Slight slow down, but it's a first world problem.

However, the movie doesn't buffer properly and freezes often. Yes, I should have amazing Internet speeds, but I don't. However, I use Netflix and YouTube without issue on this same connection. They simply buffer a little longer or will occasionally drop frame rate or image quality. Google Play just stops. And gives you the spinning wheel. The. Spinning. Wheel. It might as well be a middle finger.

The problem is with how this app is set to handle slower broadband speeds - it won't buffer enough, and it is not immediately obvious how to force the app to download before watching on your iPad. I think it can be done - but I already started the movie. And honestly, there's nothing worse than an interrupted experience due to poor design.

My expectation is a smooth user experience - not one defined by fragmentation and poor media streaming management.

All around, this is a very poor design from a company who can do better. This was their moment to make Google Play a real option for iOS users...and it's a mess. This app is getting deleted after I wait another 20 minutes for this stupid movie to buffer.

Apple stayed clear of this launch. I almost think it was done intentionally so this poorly designed app could fail.

Google TV ZERO RATING FOR TERRIBLE BUGS AND AWFUL SUPPORT

=== ZERO RATING ===

The only reason I opted to go for google play movies app (even though it is UGLY) is google's speed and ability to download movies and watch them OFFLINE and also watch on YouTube - which no other app offered to do.

It worked fine for a while except that it kept deleting downloaded movies randomly for NO reason (this issue still persists) - forcing me to re-download all the deleted movies painfully. Also downloading movies takes forever to START downloading and still does not always work/start/complete and need to try AGAIN AND AGAIN. Further, it does not work in the background like streaming audio apps such as Pandora, Spotify when the device is put to sleep - which is important - as we could listen to just the movies' AUDIO at work. Not to mention, thumbnails on some downloaded movies DISAPPEAR randomly for no reason.

Google's app update during Dec 10, 2015 BROKE the VERY IMPORTANT offline playback feature with error code -11853. Reported it to google support who FAILED to even lookup error code -11853 in their code base where it was coming from. They vaguely advised me to contact apple but after I proved to them other issues such as deleting of downloaded movies for no reason, they had me DELETE the entire app which also deleted ALL my downloaded movies. I had to re-download and reinstall the app and re-download all the movies but it STILL failed to play downloaded movies offline.

Google then asked me VAGUELY to RESET my iPad which I refused as that would erase all my photos, videos and other app data. I proved to them the exact same issues manifest on my iPad Air 2, iPhone 6s and my kid's iPad mini 3 - with screenshots of the error. Google took ZERO responsibility and said there was something wrong with ALL MY DEVICES! How can all my devices be bad when they were working fine with their same app up until Dec 10, 2015? Also they failed to explain why their own app was having downloading issue and DELETING downloaded movies AGAIN AND AGAIN for no reason. How hard is it to search their app's project source code for error code 11853? They did not even do that and closed my ticket rudely. Looks like a bunch of developers who don't have a clue how to track, analyze or resolve bugs or search their code for reported errors. 11853 error code is getting displayed by their app from somewhere In their code.

Another strange behavior I proved to them - while flying I found my iPad showed "NO SERVICE" but when I tried the app (cellular data for app was off), it MAGICALLY played movies offline! I turned Cellular Data to ON and then back to OFF for the app (NO CHANGE VIRTUALLY) and when I tried the app again, it reported 11853 error again! It was playing OFFLINE fine just a few seconds ago with the exact SAME setting but now it bombs. Also, during this process of turning on/off cellular data inside a flight with no signal, it deleted SEVERAL of the downloaded movies for no reason! So this is just some stupid switch that the app thinks wrongly is OFF. I reported this to Google as well but obviously their developers are not smart enough to understand this buggy behavior even after explaining to them in programming terms (I'm a programmer).

After trying desperately ways to make this app work without their support, I discovered that it PLAYS downloaded movies OFFLINE if I turn ON Airplane Mode (no cellular, no wifi). Turn Airplane Mode OFF - it does NOT play movies offline! Are you reading this Google? Or do you need me to FIX your code too? Since it works with Airplane Mode turned ON - do you still think all my devices need to be RESET and lose all my data? How is that going to resolve it? This is as DUMB as your developers are who cannot even search source for error code 11853, vaguely suggest rudimentary steps even after proving it in several emails, close support tickets for no reason. If it's an issue with Apple/iOS, GOOGLE needs to communicate with Apple and resolve it instead of expecting users to contact Apple.

I REALLY wanted to give this app 5-STAR RATING for its speed and offline playback but have to give it ZERO RATING due to these issues. If Google wants 5-STAR rating, they need to EARN it by taking responsibility and resolving ALL these issues. If the app's KILLER feature of playing downloaded movies OFFLINE is BROKEN, fully HALF of what is promised in the app is unfulfilled.

I would gladly give this 5-star rating if Google resolves these TERRIBLE/CRITICAL issues:

Make offline playback work as advertised.
Resolve download issues - takes forever to start downloading and doesn't download most of the time.
Resolve random deleting of movies bug.
Resolve missing thumbnails bug.
Implement background processing/playback.
Implement optional List view for quick scrolling of long lists

This type of thing has happened to me every time i have contacted them

Google TV Remote doesn’t work

My dog ate the remote for my Google TV, so I’ve been attempting to use this app for its remote feature. None of its other features seem useful to me as I can just use my TV if the remote would work.

For awhile it worked half the time and then recently it completely stopped being able to connect. Guess I’ll have to buy another remote.

Google TV Recently Buggy

In the past, but he app has run fine. After the last update, I would be watching a movie and I would hear dialogue from a scene that wasn't playing. For example, in LOTR Return of the King, Legolas is talking about the mountain people yet the screen starts to show Smeagol killing his friend. This has happened during 3 movies so far. We need another update to fix that.

Highly recommended, but caution will not hurt.

It would suggest that the company has invested heavily in customer service resources, training, and infrastructure, as well as developed an effective complaint resolution process that prioritizes customer concerns.

The age of Google TV's domain suggests that they have had sufficient time to establish a reputation as a reliable source of information and services. This can provide reassurance to potential customers seeking quality products or services.

Google TV So glitchy it’s annoying

Everytime I try to watch a movie it will play half way through then decide to start playing previous parts of the movie while the audio is still on the part that I was currently watching. I restarted the app and now it says my movie has expired I BOUGHT IT 30 MINS AGO! one of the worst apps I’ve ever used. The movies are usually cheap to rent but the app itself is trash.

Google TV Google play was better

When this was google play, the app ran significantly better. Now some of my movies in my library won’t appear and it takes forever to load or play, even with the best of internet and Wi-Fi speeds. Google took 3 steps forward and 5steps back. Furthermore, you can’t even manually forward to the spot you left off in a movie because that bar is gone. Why fix something if it’s not broken?

Google TV Even with update, still buggy

Pause the movie for a bit and continue and it can’t even remember where it left off. During regular play through, it’ll spaz out and start visually playing a different part of the movie with sound of the current scene. I bought two movies at $14 dollars a pop, that’s $30 bucks gone. I wish I’d read the reviews first. I’ll see if my carrier can give me a refund.

Google TV Playback issues

There are some serious playback issues. I’ve attempted to watch several movies from my purchased library and several minutes into watching it skips to a prior part of the film, but the navigation button remains in the same place. If I rewind the film it doesn’t correct anything. In fact at times it skips to a random location. This is the same in YouTube for purchased content. Please fix

Google TV So many UI bugs

Trying to watch a movie today was like pulling teeth. The video and the audio became desynchronized (not by a few milliseconds; by about an hour) and the time bar at the bottom of the screen showed an incorrect total time of the movie. Scanning around just made for more problems. Every time I exit the app and come back, the play/pause UI freezes and I have to go back out of the player and return to fix it. What a mess.

Google TV Remote Function Irreparable

I downloaded this in the hopes of using it to control my Google TV with Chromecast. It is perpetually “connecting” to my Google TV, and cannot control it—something that started when we downloaded the app on a second device. Not only has it persisted through reinstalls and power cycling; since Google gave its app and its device the same name, it’s impossible to find any support for this issue on their troubleshooting site.

Google TV Suddenly Glitchy

Up until a month to 6 weeks ago, the app worked just fine on iOS platforms. Now, neither movies nor tv episodes play to the end. About 75% of the way through audio cuts out and starts from the beginning while the video keeps going. When you exit, close the app, restart it and then play the video, it fast forwards to the very end. Even after reinstalling the app it’s still glitchy. No problem on Android or through smart TVs.

Google TV Not Worth it

Had a problem where the movie stopped playing like an hour in once it loaded the audio picked up where I left off but the picture was from the beginning of the movie.
You also can’t pause the movie and exit out of the app without it completely glitching out. It completely disappeared from my library.
After reading the reviews found out this isn’t uncommon, and many others have experienced the same thing. Overall just a poor app.

Google TV Worst App Ever

I can’t even watch 5 minutes of a movie without the video randomly switching to a previous scene. The audio is always out of sync from the video. The video quality is terrible. It takes me 2 hours just to watch a 1 hour movie because I am constantly having to restart the app to make it work. When I leave the app in the middle of a movie, the app freezes. This app is so shameful it should be removed from the App Store. It’s false advertising because I cannot even watch movies on it. Such a waste of time and money.

Google TV Downloads simply do not work

I have thousands of movies purchased through Google Play. The majority of my purchases do not appear in my Library on my phone or iPad. Downloading an HD movie on a 1200 Mpb/s connection takes 15 minutes. After “downloading,” half the time the movie doesn’t appear in the downloaded movie list, and if it does, half of that time it doesn’t play, with a permissions or other nonsense error. Deleting and reinstalling the app doesn’t do anything, and this behavior is the same on multiple devices.

Really disappointing.

Google TV Awful

Just purchased a movie. Tried watching it. Made it 3/4 of the way through and the app exploded, either freezing, skipping to the end of the film, or playing sounds from 1 hour earlier. Tried chatting in customer service. Didn’t work. Tried restarting my tablet, though I knew it wasn’t the tablet’s fault. Nothing. Reloading into WiFi. Nothing. This isn’t the first problem I’ve had either. Sometimes the app decides it just won’t recognize my Chromecast. Other times when it does, it won’t play at 4K even though my WiFi is terrific. Come on Google.

Google TV Nothing in Library. Nothing

Total garbage. I have thousands of purchased movies and NOTHING shows up in my watchlist or my library. Zero. Nada. But some of my purchased movies show up in my recommendations. And even when I add those recommendations for a movie I’ve already purchased, nothing shows up in my watchlist. What a complete joke. The same thing happens on my Roku player. Do the developers hire people to make Google TV the absolute worse thing possible for users? No organization. No sorting ability. No categories (tv vs film). Nothing works. The only thing I can do is search for a purchase from memory, click on it, and watch it. I despise this app.

I don’t normally write these but this issue has happened a couple of times, across multiple devices, and with multiple movies so it’s become a bit of a pattern.

It seems to work well for the first hour or so of a movie but more and more recently, around an hour and 15 or so I get a playback error. I closed the whole app and quit it, thinking that would help but it just started me at the beginning of the movie with no ability to skip to where I had been previously. If I try to skip ahead, it just buffers endlessly. If it does finally start playing, it will start playing the sound of where I wanted it to start but the pictures of a few minutes into the movie.

Google TV Garbage app

It’s Father’s Day. All I wanted to do was eat a steak, have a glass of scotch, and watch Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Steak. Check. Scotch. Check. Now I have a one year old which means seeing a movie in the theater is not an option. Upon looking this movie up, I found it to be available only on this app. Alright, I’ll give it a shot and pay the required $15 for the movie. First hour was fine. Streaming clearly. Then, glitch after glitch after glitch. I discovered, if I stopped the movie then restarted, it would fix itself. But towards the end of the movie, I had to stop and restart about every 5 minutes. This app is absolute garbage. I’ll be deleting this from my device immediately and never using again. Good thing my steak and scotch were good otherwise this app may have ruined Father’s Day.
