I bought a camper and was going on a four week cross-country trip, so I read the material about how good Sam towing service will tow your vehicle and trailer if you break down. Sounds like a good service to have considering the trip I was going on.
I was in Amerilo Texas when my transmission failed. I called good Sam for the towing of my truck which was going about 2–3 miles, and my trailer which was going about 5–7 miles. They told me it would cost me 700 dollars. I tried to find out why it would cost anything, since the information provided said it would cost nothing, at least for such a short tow. I was on the phone so long the first time my phone battery dies. Meanwhile I among a very busy road in the center turn lane with two lanes of heavy fast traffic on both sides of me.
When I called back after getting my phone plugged in I was given a lower price of 150 dollars, and again tried to find out why it would cost anything since the information showed it would cost zero.
After hours of being in the middle of the road, a tow truck showed up and was going to have to abandon my brand new 30,000 dollar trailer full of price items.
I went to a local business and got someone to tow the trailer for 100 dollars.
The next day, I called good Sam back or they called me and identified that should not have happened, and I can request a refund. I requested the refund and basically was laughed at.
Because I had to move the important contacts from the truck to the trailer in the middle of the road while dodging cars, I ended up in bed for 2 1/2days because I was still recovering from a massive back surgery - I had ruptured every disc from L2 to L 5. Getting out of bed was extremely painful, and even to get to the bathroom was incredibly painful. I have significant medications, but they were no help because of the work I had to do and where it had to be done because good Sam refused to honor their contract.
I could have just called AAA and would have gotten at least gotten the truck towed with no cost, and more than likely paid for the trailer to be towed, and not waste the money I paid for the good Sam so-called service.
Every beware, Good Sam cannot be trusted. The only good part of this situation is that I was in a city, and had options. If this had happened in the middle of nowhere, I would more likely than not had to pay what seemed likeetortion to get my property to somewhere safe.
I was carrying about 6,000 dollars in camera equipment, multiple firearms, and a lot more items so if I was anywhere I wanted to stay I could stay for about 3 weeks before I would need anything.
It would not be a surprise if someone dies from expecting good Sam to honor their contract.
So not only was paying for good Sam towing a waste of money it cost me 100 dollars to pay someone else to tow my trailer they should have, and it took 4 days before I could even drive without severe pain. I even used Uber instead of renting a car while my truck was being repaired.
If you use good Sam towing, you could be risking your life so I mean it when I say do not allow yourself to be conned by these people, you may not live to regret it
Desired outcome: paid back for the $100, and compensation for being stuck in bed All of what I have stated can be verified it was in front of jiffy lube, and they helped
