We purchased a 64, 000.00 home and 49, 000.00 property in June of 09.We didn't need building permits but had to have the septic system checked since we were hooking to an existing tank (we paid out of pocket for inspection) . We leveled the site ourselves, the septic was already on site and we stubbed it up, driveway and parking slab already intact, we ran the water lines from the well (which was already operable also) ourselves, ran our own underground electrical conduit and set our own post for the meter. We opted for the silver key which added 8000 to our total. It was less down and a better intrest rate... That included a walkway to our front door, landscaping, decking, faux stack stone underskirt, a vinyl front porch handrail. So... it was ordered prior to closing June, we closed and our total on the paperwork was 151, 000.00... we asked them to prove where the money went during closing and they had it all documented. Despite our gut feeling that something wasn't right, we went ahead and signed, we thought we made a mistake. Now a year+ later I wish we would have halted everything because we weren't thinking it through... there is NO WAY we added 30, 000.00... especially since all they did was move it in set it up and leave... no site work at all except to connect the already stubbed plumbing and run electrical. What a crock! Then... the porch we SPECIFICALLY asked for on the back was not done... we got a standard step. They wouldn't re-do... I came to look at the underpining while being installed and was shocked by the HORRIBILE job being done. I complained and had to bring pictures to prove how awful it was... then they agreed to fix it. The man at set up who walked through with us (the handyman) didn't finish all the things we pointed out that needed fixing. He said he would be back in a few weeks after we had a chance to go through the whole thing with a fine tooth comb. He didn't come back for months... I had a long list: vent not hooked into duct work, rear outdoor spigot not working, insulation under house was torn during delivery, broken faucets, toilet completely moved around, missing trim, broken latch on storm door, center floor strip not installed, bathroom sink leak, couldn't open laundry room door to outside because it hit the porch, several doors wouldnt shut on interior room doors, mold growing on bathroom wall, soft spot on floor by air conditioner, the end capping of the roof was cut too short and wood is exposed... amongst other things, put mildly... this house is a piece! The handyman came 3 times... only a few things on the list ever got done... and the 3 visits were spread out over months and months... until I was informed that the handyman was fired and he had laundry lists for all of his customers that he hadn't finished because he was pretty much a scam... and would I please be patient with the new handyman, he was having to pick up the pieces from the other guy. So... me being the nice person I am, understood. He came after about a month and he came and got a lot accomplished and left with a list of parts to bring back for next time(I was expecting everything to be done since handyman #1 said he had all my parts in his possesion, but he didn't)... after a month I called to check on the staatus of everything and was told he had the parts and would call me back the next morning between 8-10 since that is his "phone" time. I didn't get a call for 2 days and I called back at "phone" time and he wasn't available... a week later I left another msg and another week later I left another msg.I sent a letter on July 3 2010 to document our growing mold on the bathroom wall and soft spot on floor both of which are caused by air unit somehow, the bathroom wall is shared with unit. I didn't have any response to the emailed letter and called. I was told it was passed on to the mananger and he would get with me... (you guessed, I still haven't heard from him) I went out of town in July 2010 and he called while I was gone. I called back after my return and couldn't get him. I again left messages and by this point started to get a little upset when I got a phone call from the salesperson who sold us the house (who by the way I had left many many of the messages with) saying that "the handyman" couldn't get ahold of me after several attempts... huh? I didn't have any missed calls or messages from him and I told her so... to which she snapped well you are hearing from us now... so another service call was scheduled and a big excuse was made for my cabinet door that was in now suddenly, accidentally being shipped to WV... arghh..and when I questioned about the floor, wall, air unit again I was told I could call this floor company but it had been over a year so I didn't have a warranty anymore... WHAT, after I have tried and tried to get something handled before a year, I even have the written email dated prior to the year being up... anyway, He came and fixed some more things...finally have an outdoor spigot (1yr later)... but insulation underneath is still not fixed, vent is still not hooked up (he was told they called another service to do it) outdoor cap not fixed, and got him to look at air unit FINALLY... to which he ignores the fact tha the floor feels different, but acknowledges that somehow the drip pan is pretty full... so we went outside to see if we could see a problem. He immediately sees that we had set the end of the drain line into a french drain and said thats your problem there, it is holding it in a position not letting it drain... so I told my husband when he came home... he said let me show you something... we went out there and he pulled it out (its just set into a lead pipe) and it actually was held down at a slope by the lead pipe into the french drain. It naturally wanted to bend slightly upward... we didn't add the french drain until later so there is no telling how long the "original" pipe placement caused water to overflow the back of the drip pan and mold my wall and soften my floor... I am nervous that it is a huge fix and they are not wanting to deal with it. I hate to tell them I was hospitalized after mold problems and almost died from complications... I won't do it again, much less let my family be exposed. So... as I sit here typing Nov 2010... 1yr and 3mos after move in date... I am still waiting... This is a huge lesson I don't want to learn again- scamming, lying, dodging, and an overall BAD product!
