Product / Service I'm Complaining About

inconsistency between registered / ordered participants and those who actually turn up (& the rudeness of behaviour, thereby ruining the event) of 15th APRIL 2023 plus unacceptable silence / inactivity on event of MAY 20th 2023

Please Provide as much information as possible:

In 2017, the late Yogi Paulo instituted the Malta Poets Society in which people can express themselves and have a space (event) where they can be recognised (not judged) and share the beauty of art and culture, talents etc.

Due to the events of recent years, we decided to move online.

In 2022, Paulo passed on and I inherited his legacy to continue.

After sorting out the aftermath of his passing, Malta Poets Society Online Open Mic resumed and soon after we started using EventBrite.com to extend our reach-out to poets and lovers of art and culture.

Initially all started well although people who registered did not turn up and we thought that this was just normal with an event; although we weren’t sure whether people might have had trouble getting in. This problem has persisted until in APR 2023 all the people who’d registered did NOT get onto the event and those who DID turn up, HAD NOT REGISTERED.

This was already a little odd but what happened after that was appalling. After a short while that the people who turned up behaved rather “naughtily” (school-type naughtiness) playing up and disrupting each other verbally and with music / background sounds. What seems to be attacking teach other could actually have been them working together in a concerted attack on myself to such an extent that they made actual threats against my person. On reviewing the footage of the event it feels that this could have indeed been an orchestrated attack and that these people were working together as a team.

Which, would be simply registered as a strange anomaly until the behaviour of the actual attendees / participants degenerated to the lowest levels of despicable - that compelled me (the host) to have to throw out (remove) each and everyone, with the consequence that the event got totally ruined; not to stress that the legacy of Paulo Bennett skipped a month, unnecessarily.

Note: there is NO WAY (that we know of) as to “how” people could gain access to the link for the event which we ONLY pass on to people who ”order” the event on EventBrite.

This is most bizarre, weird, strange etc as well as most totally unacceptable and we are currently at a loss as to what could have happened and why?

We had to resort to this method (filing a complaint) because we do not seem to have any other way to get our message across to EventBrite. Please note the date of filing this complaint as it indicates how tough it was for us to find “a-way” to get in touch and seek help and assistance.

In the meantime it was time for our next event so:

In order to have more content to report to EventBrite, we chose to give another go and went ahead “business-as-usual” on the 20th of May 2023 and this is what happened. 13 people registered, only 4 of whom actually turned up. 2 seemed genuine and participated (one of them off-camera, which we do not really encourage, but she did seem genuine enough and shared a poem) - HOWEVER there were TWO people (who had also registered for last month’s event) who did not react and were total dead weight: there was no reaction to me (the host) and to the technical-aide who specifically asked them to come on camera and speak up or communicate with us.

Desired Outcome

Clarification on the registration process.

Can we link EB to Zoom such that the link changes every time to eliminate any possible intruders?

Could we have the IP addresses of the all who registered? (to check our theory of what we believe happened and empower us to consider any required next steps)

The perpetrators identified and confirmed.

Fullest charges be brought against them for their criminal actions.

All at EventBrite’s expense (if applicable) and none to me - I do not even make money from the event.

A guarantee from EventBrite that security will be taken WAY more seriously and layers of mechanisms be put in place to ensure that such an event NEVER EVER happens again: to anyone using EventBrite.
