On discharge from (Ward) 'IPU2 ' nurse Tim was very difficult to get my belongings for me to take when leaving. Now complaint is specifically that I've since been there with a written list (see claimed loss section). As it happens it was again Tim that spoke to me in person when I arrived, said he would look for my items and give me a call today...

Eastern Health maternity ward, administration & doctors did not put her records on file after 7 weeks, and 6th fax.

My partner was pregnant, and we had just arrived back into Australia, coupe of months shy of the due date. As soon as we returned we began visiting the hospital which we heard was quite good, Boxhill hospital in Melbourne Victoria.

Prior to visiting here we have had our regular initial check ups at Melbourne radiology (who were absolutely wonderful), and Clinical Labs (also equally wonderful people), and had visited local doctors also, some good and some not.

Upon visiting BOXHILL hospital, we provided them with details of Melbourne radiology, and Clinical labs to ensure they would get the results for the next doctors appointment, and I personally rang both of the clinics to ask them to FAX it through to the maternity ward fax on the folder given to us.

To our surprise, after 2 weeks, at our next appointment they advised us that NO PAPERWORK was received by the hospital and that they did not even know her blood type, but not to worry, she appears to be fine, and every thing looks good.. Looks good? I thought.

Based on what are they making these wildly rough judgements, without looking at historical measurements weights, scans, or even asking to conduct another scan, which would be standard if a new patient was to come to me.

To cut the very long story short - I was not happy that the hospital did not have the results obtained, then charged us $350 for the appointment, and then without doing any tests or scans dismissed us in under 15 min.

I rang through to the labs again, and asked them to refax. Guess what? Next appointment - No results. Again.

2 appointments so far with NO results. And this is after I had sent one of the result to the nurse in charge on the day before.

The reason why I am posting this up is because, after being recommended by my brother to go to EPWORTH, on the day of our first appointment the wonderful doctor immediately identified low fluid levels in my partners uterus, suggesting there could be potential complication and significant damage to our baby if left unattended to the due date.

At the first appointment this was identified and next day the doctor delivered our baby, a week early, via cesarea, and indeed confirmed that there as hardly any fluid around our baby.

It is shocking to to know that our public hospital systems are NOT equipped to deal with situations so simple as to the obtaining of scans and bloods from other clinics - and they they would still charge an full appointment fee.

Especially in situation where we had a few weeks until the baby was due, and not to have any sense of urgency or responsibility on the babys life, to me, is unthinkable and irresponsible.

Should this kind of staff be working at the hospital? Would you trust your baby in the care of people who just dont care?

Not obtaining important scans and bloods and or not ordering new scans to a new patient who is about to deliver is equal to going in blind, and its a gamble. To us, that shows that they really do not have much care for the young one inside my partner.

Consequently, they were wrong about the mother and baby being OK. Because they were far from it, and quickly identified at the new hospital and quickly dealt with.

It is highly likely our child would have suffered greatly if we had continued our appointments at BOX HILL HOSPITAL and the CARE FACTOR for their patient and admin, doctors MUST improve or lives will be at RISK.
