Del-Air Heating, Air Conditioning, Plumbing And Electrical review: Sales

I had a maintenance appointment on August 21. The technician said my condenser unit was quite dirty and offered an acid wash for $576. I declined. He completed the maintenance and left. I called Del-Air because I was not satisfied. Del-Air scheduled a follow-up appointment for August 22. On August 22 two vehicles arrived. Mike and Jeffrey introduced themselves looked at air handler and condenser units and said I had a Freon leak. They said it could be as much as $1000 to refill the unit with Freon. I asked about a warranty, because my unit is only 3 years old. They asked which company installed the unit. I said it was ARS. They said their warranty is only 1 year. Mike scribbles some numbers on a note pad, replacing coils in the air handler and Freon, and the total was $4900. He said I could avoid that cost by upgrading to the Premium coverage. Mike went into an explanation of electric usage and water elimination. Mike then showed me the system options and focused on the 19 Series with ten years parts, labor and maintenance warranties. That total was $19,948 or $214 per month for 10 years. I said that was a lot of money for a home on a fixed income. I asked if that was the final price. Jeffrey commented it is for peace of mind. I agreed to it. They scheduled installation for the following day. I had a restless night thinking about budgeting. When ai got up on Saturday morning, I sent a message to the Del-Air office to cancel the installation. Mike called almost immediately asking what the problem was. I told him I had some time to think about the whole deal and I had not signed a contract. Mike said if it was the price, we could do something about it. I hired a technician from another a/c company. I was quite educated by him. We determined that I have a 10 year warranty on my 3 year old unit. He put two gallons of coolant in the unit for $80 and it has been running fine since. Personally, I do not like your sales tactics which play on emotions and think I am some sort of idiot.
