I hired Defense Tax Group in 2021 to assist me with a tax debt. At the time, I clearly explained that I am a combat veteran suffering from PTSD and other mental health challenges, and that my life was becoming very difficult to manage.
Shortly after retaining their services, my situation worsened significantly. I lost my job, my marriage, my stability, and eventually became homeless. During this period, I lost communication with Defense Tax Group. Despite that, they continued withdrawing funds from my account.
Before hiring them, I had already voluntarily started paying a percentage of my disability benefits to the IRS. After I was finally able to regain some stability and begin getting my life back on track, I discovered that the tax debt was still unresolved, even though sufficient money had been paid toward it. I repeatedly tried to contact the IRS without success.
I then remembered that Defense Tax Group had taken nearly $3,000 from me, but I could not identify any meaningful services they had provided. After several attempts to reach them, I finally received a response from Randy Richardson, whose advice was that I could hire them again. Before considering that, I asked him to explain what Defense Tax Group had done for me the first time I hired them. I have not received a response.
I understand that people in this country don't like veterans, but taking advantage of someone who is struggling with mental illness, homelessness, and service-related PTSD is wrong. If a company is not going to provide services, it should not continue taking a client’s money. Defense Tax Group did not pause billing, refund my payments, or provide a clear explanation of services rendered after they lost contact with me. Instead, they continued withdrawing funds from my account.
I am requesting accountability, a full explanation of what services were performed, and a refund for any funds collected without services being provided. This situation was unfair, harmful, and unacceptable.
Desired outcome: explanation of services rendered and or some type of refund
