My wife and I live at 64 Ridge Road. in Halifax Ma. 0338 for 50 years. I am 80 years old, and my wife is seventy-five.

We have had an average of $100-200 /month water bill for all those 50 years. Recently after an estimated water meter reading, we received a water bill for $3000.

We insisted that it was incorrect, and the Water Department had the meter checked and it was verified as correct. Although there was no way to prove the estimated reading was correct when it happened. The water department said the meter was absolute, so we had to pay the $3000 bill.

But The amount of water for the $3000 would have filled our basement. Or in any case that amount of water use would be evident, none was found. The water Department said the water would have had to be running 24/7 for 14 days!

We were told that our water would be cut off if the $3000 bill wasn't paid. We don't know what to do and that is why we are writing this complaint.

We have written to the Town Administrator, State Representative and TV channel 7 helps for help, and the Halifax Plumbing inspector. We have received no reply as of yet.

Desired outcome: A complete abatement of the bill i.e., we only pay for our typical usage. Since the town cannot show us where this water went and for 50 years, we have never been close to using this much water andWe have passed bills showing this usage.
