I am having some MAJOR problems with Great Lakes Performance Diesel in Lackawanna, NY. I have spent over $50, 000 with this company (the owner is Rick Plauman) to have a custom 800+hp engine built for my Kenworth. I was promised a minimum 1 mpg increase which I haven't seen (and has actually gone down), I have spent almost $10, 000 either fixing things that I was told were fixed or replacing parts that I was told that was replaced with new parts and I have yet to be reimbursed for them (this has been going on for almost 5 months). I have a written warranty and they will not honor it...in fact they want ME to pay for some of this! I am on my 5th turbo since I got the truck back, and they can't tell me what is going wrong. For the money I've spent I was expecting a top quality motor to be built for me with compatible parts.

This is 2020. I didn’t want to believe a man could be so crooked over a fuel pump... Man that was my mistake. I spoke with this man for months prior to purchasing a fuel pump. Not only did it no work, he wouldn’t even make an attempt to fix it. Slick talking POS. Don’t worry Rick, we will meet face to face! It will be much sooner than you hope. If anyone is reading these posts, don’t be like every person writing comments, a victim of the clown! Run, Run, Run! Save your money...

This is 2019. Rick took us for 32.932.00 . Made all kind of promises he didn't keep. Truck went down the road 800 miles and the bolts that hold the fly weights came out making a huge hole through the timing cover . Lost oil rapidly, engine is toast. Will not honor 5 year advertised warranty. He still advertises on E bay . Run run as fast as you can!

I purchase a crank shaft in September, 2017 and was very pleased with the workmanship and the professional crate that was build for the crank shaft. I will be purchasing an engine for my truck in the spring. Thanks Rick for your great work.

Don't believe the comment from retraction2012. It is someone closely associated with Rick himself, trying to make Rick look good. This man is a thief. He has been for many years and still is. His age is on his side with he butters people up and makes them feel good. And then that's when he and his disgusting girlfriend get you. They steal every penny you've got and break whatever you wanted them to fix even worse. Don't do dealings with this man.

This is a new year 2018 and I will not let the negative comments affect me any further. I have the same qualities as our president Donald Trump. I have the willingness to say and take on anyone who comes across questioning my abilities and moral standards in regards to my business. I have been in business 40 plus years and have been known to be the first person to take the electronic Caterpillar engine and covert it to a manual pump engine. Now with the electronic log books in effect since [protected] my fuel pump system is in big demand to go back to manual fuel pump engines. I saw this coming 20 years ago, but like a turtle in a race with the rabbit, slow but sure I won. In response to the negative comment placed in 2012, I did not even know this customers son nor had I met him personally. I suggest that if you find any fault in my work be a man and stand up to the pump and meet me face to face so we can discuss your problems or concerns in an adult manner, NOT thru the internet bad mouthing me and my business. 2019 and you are still up to the same tricks you have been pulling on other people for over 2 decades. We have met you face to face and are more than willing to do it again. You made a lot of promises to us that you did not honor, most importantly the 5 year Advertised warranty. You are well aware after giving you 32.932.00 for a complete engine that it only made it down the road 800 miles before breaking down . Which resulted in our truck and trailer being on the side of the road needing towed! Your answer to taking responsibility for your work is to hang up and to ignore communication requesting the warranty be honored. You have displayed NO accountability for what is clearly your workmanship or lack of. You advertise that you have a engine available on E Bay so why don't you replace our engine ? You are a disgrace! How do you stay in Business? I would encourage anyone that has been in a similar situation as us to contact BBB, New York Attorney General and federal Trade Commision just to begin with. If you are reading this and considering doing business with this man Run Run Run !

In the summer of 2009, I purchased a high performance Caterpillar diesel engine from Fredrick "Rick" Plauman, owner of Great Lakes Diesel Engine, LLC in Lackawanna, New York. Rick Plauman, Great Lakes Diesel Engines, LLC, myself and my son have resolved our differences.
