Ecco three times with three different ecco shoes!!!

I am not that big of a sucker that I bought more Ecco shoes after my fist one disintegrated, I just had a shoe buying spree one year.

First were my City Walker Cap Toes. I only wore them ~2 times be year. After a couple of years in the box, the sole of the heel started to break off in large chunks. They had a total of MAYBE 48 hours of total ware on them! I sent them in and they were replaced.

Second was a pair of Gore-Tex Track II High. Same thing, heel started to fall apart in chunks. Sent them in and they were replaced.

Third was a pair of Life. These turned to sticky gummy goo. I really though I stepped in someones discarded gum. So I start to scrap the sole of my sole on the cement sidewalk. The gum keeps coming. Black gooey gum. It turn out to be the sole of my shoe. It DISINTEGRATED! I never wore them, and now they fell apart. I am sending them in, we'll see what happens...

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS! My most expensive shoes that I never wear cannot last longer than my crappy tennis shoes that I wear ALL OF THE TIME! WTF

ECCO has to really get their act together.

Ecco shoes are not worth anything! I had three pairs and one of those I used twice a week and the sole still came apart in chunks. I have a Bally sneakers I have had for over 10 years and are worn only a few times and they are still good as new and I did not have to pay the amount of money that Ecco wants for their shoes. When friends ask me about Ecco I tell them not to buy as the quality is not there.

Ecco shoes are made using a polyurethane rubber. The more the shoes are worn the better. If the shoes are just left to sit there unused the rubber will harden and then start to disintegrate. Think of the tyres on a car. If you park a car and leave it sit there for a few years you would be a fool to drive it as it would be unsafe. Try wearing the shoes you invest in and don't leave them sitting in a box in your wardrobe!

Totally agree with you had the same problem with 6 pairs- kind of the same silly idea of Ecco being the best shoes ever made- NOT- bought all this within a few months time. Little or no wear and they fall apart after some time spent in the box. Really crap shoes. Some got replaced with other shoes, and they seem to last longer. I only had problem with those with whitish rubbery soles including slippers, shoes, boots whatever.

I found the same happening to me with 3 different brands of shoes: Picolin, Ceruca (Spanish) and a pair of rather expensives spanish snake-leather boots called barrats( I should have know- barratos means cheap. The soles of all just desintegrates suddenly after hardly ever using the shoes.
My two pairs gave up after using them just once after 2 years in storage while my wifes pair only lasted 1 month. Looks as though some new material is used by several manufacturers to make sure you must buy again soon. It a blck material a bit like rubber but it just crumbles away.

Ecco - soles/heels blew apart

While in New York with only my Ecco lace-ups for shoes, I was horrified to discover they the left heel had shredded itself at some point during my stay. I've read some of the complaints here and since I'm certain my shoes are more than one year old, I won't even bother attempting to deal with what has been universally described as uncaring customer...

Ecco poorly made shoe

These shoes are the worst shoes I have ever purchased. They are advertised as medium width shoes, but in reality they are narrow shoes. I have been trying to break them in for over 11 months now. I have even tried taking them to a shoe shop to have them stretched.
I contacted the company after I found out shoebuy was advertising them as "narrow to medium"...my first indication that the problem wasn't a need for me to break them in, but a poorly made shoe.
I contacted Ecco for advise and was basically told "too bad".

I will never buy shoes from this company again. They are the worst shoe I have ever put on my foot and I cannot believe I spent $100 on shoes I cannot even wear.

Ecco soles desintegrate - on brand new shoes

STAY AWAY FROM ECCO SHOES. I have purchase several pairs of ECCO Shoes, and in every one of them the soles have disintegrated after being worn for a short period of time and they do not stand behind their brand. This has not happened to me with any other brand, and I own MANY pairs of shoes

The latest case was a pair of sandals, which I wore only a couple of times. And I mean a couple of times, the upper portion of the sandals are brand new, with absolutely no sings of wear AT ALL. If you would like it I can send you the pictures so you can see them. I sent them to ECCO, and they returned them this week indicating that:

1.- “Ecco offers a one-year warranty on all their shoes. After evaluating your shoes, it has been determined, based on the model that they exceed the one year warranty period.”

2.- “When repairing Ecco shoes, we remove several layers of the original sole. Unfortunately base layer of polyurethane is deteriorating, therefore, we are unable to bond a new sole to your shoe.”

As you can see, when buying ECCO shoes, you must find out when they were manufactured, to make sure that you have a chance at the “one year warranty”.

It is amassing that shoes of this cost, and claimed quality, will fall apart after wearing them for only a couple of times. These are totally undependable shoes. Absolutely not a shoe to be taken on trips when you plan to do a lot of walking, or you run a good chance of having to buy a new pair of shoes to finish the trip. Like I said, I only wore these sandals a couple of times, and now I can through them away.

I have few pairs of ecco shoes during these few years. i bought one new pair of ecco shoes in end Feb 2012 at singapore ION shop. The disign is nice but the shoes sole is very slippery during the raining day, i could not control myself and had a fell against my back until now still not recovered and back still painful. I will not considered in future to purchase Ecco brand of shoes. it really bad experience of it. I think the shoes quality are no good compare to last time.

Ecco Shoes are a disgrace. DO NOT BUY!

It isn't the fact that these shoes are inherently faulty (which they clearly are)

it is the fact that Ecco will not compensate buyers of their junk footwear.

Boycott this amoral company!

I bought the boots with this sole...lasted 4 hrs. I thought I had stepped on some gum, as something was sticking to my shoes...I looked down and big hunks of rubber were virtually peeling off...top was beautifully new...shoe repair said there is NOTHING to be done with a molded sole...total bummer...no more ECCOs...and they were very comfortable and I wore them for years...they need to last longer than 4 hrs.!

Its hydrolysis, It just happens to that rubber compound over time, not eccos fault, though they have withdrwan all shoes which have that problem and use a different compound now..

Ecco soles deteriorate

I have a number of pairs of Ecco sandals and boots. The soles have deteriorated after little wear on 3 pairs. The material literally becomes gooey and falls off in chunks, or as in the latest case, the black rubber has cracked and is falling off the sole of the sandal. Ecco is pitiful as far as customer service is concerned. I sent one pair of boots to them where the soles completely fell off in chunks. They told me the shoes were no longer under warranty and that was it. Such sorry service! I'll not purchase another pair.

Bad experience (add words) :
Mr K Moore, I agree with you too. I bought a pair of this Ecco in HK to my dad celebrate his birthday, the reason I bought because he loves the pair (ECCO) he is wearing now (MADE IN JAPAN) that he bought many years ago in HK, after we back home open the box happily, we by accident pull out the shoe pad found out a word 'MADE IN CHINA' printed inside the shoes on the shoe pad which is not very very obvious be seen if you simply just look into the shoes, we questioned WHY NOT printed 'made in China' on the sole of the shoes but NO WORDS show on the sole?
We don't mean products made in China is bad, but since the price is expensive, HKD1300 (even after discount, it is HKD1040), the sales of Ecco said the shoes is made in Europe, we questioned why the shoes is not made in Denmark or Europe but CHINA ! The shoes made in China, it really doesn't worth HKD1040 for a shoes since we know very well about China. Why sales of Ecco cheating us? WHY ? Also the sales said the shoes have air-max, I think the sales also cheating us too !
Ecco claims itself a Denmark shoe making company, it is cheating he customers by printing MADE in CHINA inside the dark side of the shoe, we are very disappointed, I also think my dad will experience the same as Mr K Moore soon.
Ecco, you will lose four more customers forever (include other family people) !

Ecco sole deteriorate

I have a pair of Ecco shoes where the soles have deteriorated. Rest of the shoes are in perfect like new condition. The layer of polyurethane has deteriorated where they are unable to bond a new sole to the shoes.

They are over a year old and Ecco has a year warranty. It doesn't matter if they are made of defective matterial, Ecco does not stand behind of their product. For such an expensive shoe this is unacceptable.

This is my second pair of Ecco shoes where the soles have deteriorted. I had always thought Ecco to be an excellent brand to buy, but not anymore. I will never buy Ecco shoes again.

Husband loves Ecco shoes and this one pair that is rarely worn(he doesn’t dress up much, funerals, weddings etc) Is literally crumbling every time you touch them! Not sure what to do, his other Ecco’s seem just fine. Has anyone had luck with Ecco repairing or replacing these defective shoes or do I need to tell my husband to find a different brand to buy?

I had the same problem with my Ecco shoes that cost me $200. After time, even if you dont wear the shoe that much, the rubber on the bottom just starts crumbling, you can just literally peel it off with your fingers. The funny thing is (I mean that in a sarcastic way) the reason I buy shoes that cost more is not only the comfort but that they last longer, so I thought, I was wrong in thinking they last a long time.

Same problem Bought a pair of Track II Ecco shoes to celebrate my first pay check out of college. Payed over $100.
A little over a year later, the sole had deteriorated and started falling off. The leather was still in great shape but it was too late and not the kind of sole that can be redone.

Love the styling. Hate the quality.

Ecco high prices for throw away quality

I have (had) a pair of ecco boots, insulated, gore tex lined. no problem with the water proof aspect, but the sole disintegrated and cracked in half. they did not wear out, but fell apart. I had owned the boots for several years, gave them little wear since they were only appropriate for extreme cold and snow, which fortunately wasn't happening here until this year.

Ecco-usa sent me a plastic bag to send them to repair facility which turned out to be a private, contracted company. They rejected the boots saying that they were out of warranty and unrepairable. I had to call to get this information, since the web site told me that the boots had not been received.

I called ecco usa's, who's response was that i could send them in again, to their returns dept (i thought that they were going to ecco the first time) for a second opinion. They kept repeating that the warranty is only for a year. My feeling is that wearing out is one thing, disintegrating is different.

The upshot is that ecco sells for high prices, but they really don't expect their products to last more than a year (length of warranty) and at least some of their products are not repairable if they wear out. Why pay such high prices when the manufacturer doesn't show much confidence in the product?

Ecco = high prices for throw away quality.

We've had the same problem. The soles of the boots disintegrated as if they had been sitting in acid. This was after one year but after vey little use, being worn maybe 4 times a month, with very little walking or use. The same thing happened with some Ecco dress shoes I had. I will never buy another Ecco product.

Ecco non of them was water proof!

I have bought two winter boot as a water proof shoes "Ecco shoes" which was in last October 2007,and i spend almost $600 Canadian dollar, but non of them was water proof, both of them are leaking,so i went back to the store that i bought the shoes from and i asked to exchange them,i was able only to exchange one. However the new one i exchanged is leaking too, so i contacted the oner many times by phone and he refused to call me back. By the way i did contact the company as the oner told me when i exchanged the boot and the company said we don't deal with this kind of shoes. So who should i write to since I'm graduate student and i don't have enough time to go somewhere.

Furthermore, my feet are always wet and since i spend a lot of money, i can't spend more than that to buy another pair of shoes.

I agree- I find ecco black shoes have changed lately they just don't last anymore> I always found they lasted at least 3 years on London streets but suddenly as of about 2 years ago I found they started making the heel HOLLOW. So the bottom of the heel is now just a thin layer which after just under a year wears through to a sort of spongy substance they now put inside and the shoe is then substantially useless. I took the "Hiking" shoes back to the Oxford Street London Ecco shop the first time as it was 11 months- they were very nice and changed them immediately but I found the new pair (similar range but not exactly the same model) ALSO had a hoolow heel that wore out after about 10 month this time. They're quite expensice too some £100-£120 I don't mind paying this when they lasted but won't now.

I'll never buy bECCO gain.

i bought a pair of ecco boots, the first time it rained the sole came apart like a rotten mango(disintegrated).
i send them back, they send me different pair, same sole.
put them in closet, as i had purchased other boots. got them out 2 years later, the sole disintegraged from just sitting in the box! what gives? why dont they change the sole to vibram? never buy their boots!they cant seem to learn or dont care...like a car company, charge enough, you can absorb a few fatalities!...unethical people!

If the store is not able to help you out you can contact ECCO directly. [protected]

As you have not mentioned the name or the style of the shoe I can not tell you what to expect of the shoe. For an ECCO shoe to have a water/leaking warranty, the shoe needs to either have a lining called Goretex which would be indicated on the outside of the shoe with a tag saying "Goretex" or a special treatment applied to the leather called Hydromax which would be indicated with a stamp on the leather saying "Hydromax".

The water/leaking warranty for Goretex is 3 years
The water/leaking warranty for Hydromax is 2 years

ECCO does offer a twelve-month limited warrantee against defects in materials and workmanship.

The warrantee provides for ECCO to examine your claim, and to determine if any part of the shoe fails to function properly due to any defect in material or workmanship. The ECCO warrantee does not apply if ECCO deems the shoes show signs of excessive wear or abuse. A proof of purchase must be provided indicating the shoes were purchased within the one-year warrantee period.

If the store is not able to assist you may mail your shoes to our offices for further inspection. Please include a letter reviewing your claim, along with your complete mailing address in order that ECCO may respond to you by mail.

Ecco I no longer buy ecco!

It appears that nothing has changed at Ecco. I used to buy Ecco shoes for their comfort but found that on three pairs of shoes the centres of the soles came away after little wear. The reason for this as far as I could observe was simple. It appears to be that they stamp their 'Ecco' brand name large and very deeply into the rubber sole to the extent that it weakens around that area. Believing that I was doing them a favor, I wrote to them (no reply) and subsequently spoke to them (with little courtesy). They told me to send the shoes back to them. I replied that I would if they sent me the postage or they could ask their local dealer (just up the road from me) to pick them up. They refused. Their customer service is appalling. I no longer buy Ecco. End of story.

Disappointed not to be informed by ECCO manufacturer that the soles are degradable. I mean..keeping shoes in a box to preserve them for special occasions..and the soles start crumbling beneath your feet when an occasion comes about. It just isn't good enough for consumer rights .

I have an expensive pair of boots I am unable to wear because of the foul smell of ammonia.

I feel annoyed that nobody is interested.

I am now in a position where I have got to throw a pair of boots away that have no wear on the sole and should have lasted a long time.

I bought my Ecco shoes several years ago...I believe at Tradehome Shoes in Sioux Falls. I no longer have the receipt for the shoes. I have only worn them a few times. The last time I wore them, the heels started falling apart and leaving a trail of black fragments behind.

Hello I did write about my lovely ecco 2 shoes which I must say are the second pair of patent leather shoes to split at the side with not much wear. I have a reply stating as purchased 24/8/2019 out of warranty. I stated under consumer act 2015 a replacement or repair must be considered for 6 years.

Can you please let me know.

the leather upper separated from molded sole for about 1.5 inches on the right shoe. I wore these sneakers very infrequently, may be once a month.

I am big Ecco fan for their comfort but this time quality is just not there.

I bought these sneakers from ECCO directly (on their web site) on October 30, 2020 and received in November 2020.
