I have been recently been corresponding with several breeders of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels around the new england area. I have owned Cavaliers for almost 30 years, having purchased my first one in England while my husband was there due to work. I have imersed myself in all things Cavalier as I find them such an adorable and unique breed. In August, I lost my beloved Stanley and have been searching for a companion animal for the last few months. If anyone has any information on good breeders in my state or area, please let me know.
On to my complaint: I was appauled with my experience with the owner of Colonial Village Cavaliers. She showed lovely puppies on her site but when I was sent the pedigree I noticed that the parents were related, back two generations but still, alarming She had also not done the genetic testing on the dogs prior to breeding. She offoered the testing but the date on the testing did not jive with the date the litter was born. The testing was done after conception; this is the reason why this breed is slowly being destroyed. What I also found troubling was that after being blissfully unaware of MVD and other protocols, she wasted my time blasting other breeders in the area about their dogs being of inferior quality to hers.
I really that believe that there should be special licensing for people to be able to breed animals as magestic as these. My experience to date has been dismal. I ask again, if anyone knows of a good breeder in the area, your comments are welcome.
Warm Regards and Happy Holidays to Everyone.

The sire and dam of the litter you are referring to are in fact, NOT related at all. Please be sure of your facts prior to posting slanderous statements. Also, all paperwork and vet references proving excellent health, both before and after conception, including OFA/CERF certifications are available to any and all prospective owners. Furthermore, just FYI, it may benefit you to learn the difference between line breeding, which many, many show breeders do, and direct "inbreeding". Please cease posting such ridiculous complaints.
I'm not even sure how I stumbled across this but suffice it to say, there are a numerous amount of posts from disgruntled clients regarding breeders across the country. I too have been looking for a Cavalier though not in the New England are. However, if this truly is the breeder that responded to Ms. Virginia's comments then shame on you. A person should be able to voice their personal opinion without being lambasted and accused of slander! I took the liberty of reviewing your site for myself and frankly, some of this is not adding up. First, why is there a giant picture of a house on the main page? You're a dog breeder selling puppies. There's a miniscule photo of a Cavalier puppy in the top corner of what I can assume is a giant photo of your house. That is odd. You have photos of three dogs, all of which have "normal" next to their testing. Why not post the actual test date and number? Why did you do testing "before and after" conception as you stated above? As far as the difference between line breeding and inbreeding, they are one in the same. All purebreds are inbred however, the distinction between the two is how closely related the actual inbreeding is. Perhaps it is you that needs to cease posting ridiculous complaints, Ms. Cavalier Breeder. A buyer like Ms. Virginia comes to a breeder for help, information, references and a sense of care. Your defensive response wreaks of hostility and nonsensical ramblings in your feigned attempt to come off as some kind of expert in the field. How long have you been breeding anyway? Regardless of time, why is it that you are grossly unfamiliar with basic recommendations that are set forth by the Club of America for this breed which can easily be researched by a simple Google search? Is this because you're attempting to mask that there is some truth to the complaints of Ms. Virgina? My advice to you is to educate yourself before you attempt this on others. My final piece of advice would be to check your attitude at the door and tone it down. Hostility is classless and never in style, Ms. Cavalier Breeder, not to mention VERY unbecoming.
Some good qualities in dog breeds can be furthered by in-line breeding. There is research to support that, I think. I am not an expert, but have done some reading on this. I have bred a litter of puppies because I was extremely interested in a certain breed (not the one you are discussing here, but similar circumstances). I did as much research as I could out of a passion for the breed. That, of course, still leaves a lot that I do not know. I feel for the novice breeder in this case, being "dressed down" in front of everyone in cyberspace as he/she does their best to be knowledgable. Some of the information I gathered in my own case was from one of the top breeders I could find on the internet. Unfortunately, some of their information simply proved to be inaccurate. I only discovered this as I observed my litter of puppies over several months. I am disappointed, but I realize that gaining knowledge about dog breeding is an ungoing thing. We all contribute to that knowledge. Please put that into perspective as a new breeder emerges. They share your passion for Cavalier King Charles. I see how that breeder might not have done things up to your expectations. There is a lot to get correct. HAVING OWNED THESE DOGS FOR 30 YEARS, YOU HAVE MUCH, MUCH MORE EXPERIENCE WITH THE BREED THAN MOST PEOPLE! I would be willing to bet that the new breeder is giving her pets lots of love and attention, and is regularly researching this breed, the foundation for a good breeder. He/she will get better and better with the other technical aspects. I just talked to that breeder, and she suggested those tests to me. NO ONE else, including my well known vet, had asked me for those tests! Give us a chance to get up to speed! We love our pets, too.
Oh my goodness how could she be unaware of mvd? I am looking for a GREAT cav breeder, I want to add another cav to my home in a year, I have an 11 month old tri male who is the most amazing loving sweet dog, but he is going to the neurologist in June, we are expecting the diagnosis to be syringomyelia, at his young age this is the most devastating blow. I want a breeder who MRI's the cavs she breeds as well as heart, eye, and patella ect. They are few and far between. May I ask if you have found a reputable breeder in this area?
