As part of a divorce, I needed to refinance my home. I began the process with a different mortgage company. It was an old home and the bank kept holding up the process requiring engineering reports, construction work and hefty fees to hold my APR. I constantly struggled getting help or returned messages. After over $9000 invested (engineer $1000, construction deposit $7500, rate hold fee $500) and no guarantee of closing, I started with another bank only to find rates had skyrocketed.
