This company used to be called "Classic Car Services Ltd" but changed to "Classic and Modern Motoring Ltd" when Andrew Fox bought the company in 2010.
I had alot of quality work carried out by them before it changed hands and i was happy with the standard of work and service so i continued to get work done by them after it changed hands.
3 times my trans-am got damaged by them while in their care and Andrew quickly fixed the damage, after the 3rd time he sent me a grossly overcharged bill for all the repairs to the damage they did! he invoiced me for 22hours sent on repainting the front bumper for example!
On top of all this he has invoiced me for work never even carried out on another car of mine.
And also, he let one of his young workers drive my car to get parts from a local repco store, and in the process the guy nearly ran over a cyclist at high speed... in my car! and the cyclist turned out to be Andrews own Mother who told us about it!
DO NOT EVER TAKE YOUR CAR THERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE EXTORTED
Classic & Modern Motoring Ltd, 161 Cuba st Petone Wellington.

Not only is Andrew Fox dishonest, but Peter Scott who also manages Classic and Modern Motoring is really making matters worse by upsetting customers by being rude to them etc.

UPDATE: my dispute got taken to the disputes-tribunal in Lower Hutt by Andrew Fox and he lost the case,
he was trying to get $5000 for "work" that was meant to be done on my cars, instead he got awarded only the amount we agreed to pay in the beginning: $500.

Ive not dealt with this company, I have however had dealings with Mr Fox on previous occasions.
To say his work is substandard and amateur is to show disrespect to the many very good home DIYers.
His poor workmanship and cheating led to a very expensive engine destroying itself after only 400km.
On removing and dismantling the engine It was clear that certain things had been done to "improve" performance by way of adding product to the fuel tank that it had caused. Parts were sent to a specialist who analysed the fuel and high levels of toluene was found in the fuel.
On presenting the facts I was threatened with retaliation via a visit and lawyers.
Sadly at the time I did not have the funds to pursue this further so had to let it drop.

As quoted by others, ANDREW FOX is, dishonest, disorganized, incompetent, muddled, extortionate and an ###.

I agree but how about ANDREW FOX is inept, deaf and has very poor people skills and bizarre attitude to business.

Examples include:
Never took my personal details nor quoted correctly the work I asked for repair.
His quote was for $1400 but the bill grew to a $4200. He didn't even put me in the picture of the over run to HIS quote.
After he started on the work he, after I phoned in, asked me to visit.
I cancelled the two tone work and bad rust work the rear of the car. This was within his $1400 quote. This reduced the work to his quote substantially.

After picking up my car ( it looked good ) but only four weeks later leaching and bubbling accrued around the weld plate in the door. There are too many other aspects I could mention.I could go on...

He was given the chance to put right their wrongs with POOR workmanship but failed the second time too. The door, the boot, the spoiler, I could go on...

After picking up my Beema we left our other car for repairs as we were off on holiday. This was before my cars faults became clear to me.

ANDREW FOX tells me he and I quote " Did a good job on both cars". Yet he knows dust is in the paint on both vehicles.

In summary:
The Disputes Tribunal received copies of www.complaintsboard.com listings and was concerned with their correctness in regard to my points of view. Then later agreed to a second hearing for review. ANDREW FOX said to me he isn't concerned what people say on this website. Well others and the Tribunal think otherwise. Therefore he has no pride in his business and reputation.
Settlement was agreed. Fox only got half of is bill.

Don't jeopardize your sanity by dealing with this guy. Give him and his staff a VERY wide berth.
He runs his business as a hobby. A poorly run hobby at that.
I could say more...

I dropped the car there on the 9th saying I would be in Australia until the 24th. I was assured that that was plenty of time to do the work requested. I returned on the 24th and rang on the Wednesday 25th to pick up my car. Andrew answered the phone with " oh, you're back"... It was obvious that he hadn't completed the work. He told me he had done the brakes and the lights and some electrical work behind the dash- the indicator light was faulty-.As you can imagine I was more than a little angry. I hung up fuming. I phoned him again on Friday the 27th around and he told me that it still wasn't finished. I then said to him to leave it as it is as clearly he was incapable of fixing it and I would get someone else to work on it. I rang him back around midday and he said that he was about to call me, the car would be ready in 40 or so minutes and that the bill would be $1115.90! and to bring cash only. I of course exploded calling him an ### as I had always paid my bills with a cheque and, over the years had probably spent in excess of 18 to 20 thousand. I went out at about 4pm to pick it up and he had it up on a jack with the back left wheel off adjusting something- the brake? He insisted I settle the bill which I had to do to recover my car. I went away for about 20 minutes and came back. He was still tinkering with it. I waited for about 15 minutes when he lowered it to the deck and hopped in to drive it out of the work shop. It wouldn't start. He jump started it and drove it out. As I hopped in I asked him if it would start again. He said yes. I drove to Tory street, parked it, drove home to Seatoun, drove it out to the Hutt on Saturday morning, back into town., stopping a couple of times on the way. I drove it out to Petone on Saturday night to go to the movies, couldn't get in, hopped back in the car and it wouldn't start. The AA crash started it by towing for me- it couldn't be started by the AA jumper leads! The starter motor! The very thing I wanted prioritised. My advise is- Don't go near Andrew Fox. At best he is disorganised, incompetent and muddled. At worst he overcharges, fails to complete tasks in a reasonable amount of time and doesn't listen to specific requests. Steer well clear!

I've just had a similar experience. I've been taking my car to Classic Car Services which became Modern And Classic for over 6 years now. I rang Andrew Fox 6-7th of May to say that I was going to Australia for two weeks from 10th - 24th of May and that I'd like him to have a look at my starter motor, my lights and a couple of small things that needed tweeking. (I own a 356 Porsche. He had fitted new carburettors a month or so earlier.) I took it to Auckland on the 6th and drove it back to Wellington on the 8th. I had to get the AA to jump start it at Ngarawhahia as the starter motor seemed to be faulty. I dropped it off to Modern and Classic on Monday the 9th asking that the starter motor be looked at, the lights be fixed- they wouldn't switch to full-, the brakes be fixed and a couple of other things, like tighten up a loose overrider and look at the tacho cable which had been replaced by Classic a couple of years earlier

I've heard about the above mentioned story and others through the car club, I won't be taking my pride and joy there!

It was very upsetting for our friend who had previously recomended and praised this company for the work that the previous owner did on a number of his classic american cars to find the new owner of this company had treated him so badly. Business is built on trust and reputation I guess a day in court will sort this guy out.
