Domains By Proxy reviews and complaints

I am the organizer of charitable events conducted under the "newly" registered names StPeteCarShow.com and StPeteMotorClassic.com. Under our going forward plan we intended on registering StPetersburgCarShow.com and StPetersburgMotorClassic.com. On examination both those domains have been recently taken by DomainsByProxy. It is clear they have trolled any domain that uses the shortened name and then registered the full name for themselves, which is on offer to buy through (guess where) GoDaddy. They have no intention of using the names themselves and they are very localized and specific. In addition to this, after we registered the original domain I was spammed to hell, with my name and contacts being sold to whomever thought they could sell me something, the premise is that I should buy their Privacy Service. They have done similar with xxxNYC.com and xxxNewYorkCity.com.

I'm locked into domainsbyproxy. They can't "verify" my identity because 1) my names didn't match - so I added photo id and a pdf of my marriage license. Then 2) the addresses didn't match - I have my billings go to a po box there is no government id for that. Because they are linked to the domain registration and you cannot take it off even in renewal - i'm stuck with godaddy until something gives. My new webhost can't transfer my website. They are paid from my credit card information at godaddy but won't go by the account information at godaddy, even though they are owned by godaddy. I'm being forced to buy their product that I do not want because there's no way to turn it off without getting the login information from them that they won't give me until I prove my identity further than I already have.
