Blue Cross/Blue Shield (BC/BS) Federal Employee Program review: Insurance reimbursement

On March 17 and March 31, 2022, I had cataract surgery by Eye Physicians of Virginia, [protected]. I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield (BC/BS) Federal Employee Program as a supplement to my Medicare Insurance.

The cost of the surgery was supposed to be covered by Medicare since it was not cosmetic. In addition, my doctor said that I should pay $1500 per each eye ($3,000 total) plus $140 for an eye prescription. I requested Medicare to pay for my surgery and to send the uncovered portion to BC/BS. Medicare paid for their portion that was submitted, but since they did not get a notice from the doctor about my payment, my request was denied for the $3,140.

On August 3, I contacted BC/BS about this issue, and they said that they are working on it. Since then, I have been in contact with them four times and they have told me that they are working with the doctor's office to resolve this.
