On April 1, 2026, my house caught on fire and I called my insurance company. While I am on the phone with the insurance company as well as having the Dallas Fire Inspector interviewing me, a number of people come up asking to mitigate the fire damage. My biggest concerns, which I explain to each of them, are keeping rain out of the house and security from thieves. The representatives of BMS CAT assured me that once I sign with them, “the security of the house is our responsibility”, so I agree and sign.

By BMS’s own photos their team worked from 9:10 to 10:40 PM putting a tarp on my house and sealing the doors and windows which were damaged by the fire. Yet I was billed for 4 to 4.5 hours for the members of the team, at a rate of $49 to $80 per hour.

At 1:30 AM my neighbor’s security camera catches sight of a burglar jumping my fence. They stole 2 safes, $800 in $20 bills, a silver bullion coin, 16 .30-06 rounds in 2 clips for an M-1 rifle, a box of #4 shot shells for a 12 gauge shotgun, 2 pounds of Pyrodex (black powder substitute), and 300 euros. The “supervisor” who “worked 4.5 hours left 10 minutes after the burglars arrived.

The following day I asked a BMS CAT representative I ask why the side and back windows weren’t boarded up and he tells me that boarding up windows that weren’t damaged by the fire won’t be covered by insurance. I asked about his claim that BMS CAT was responsible for security, and he said that they boarded up everything that was damaged by the fire. I asked if there was any coverage for the things that were stolen since he claimed that BMS CAT would take care of security, and he said no.

I told him that I was replacing him with another company, i.e that he and BMS CAT were fired. Yet the following day he sent someone to board up all the downstairs windows which weren’t damaged by the fire, which begs the questions, “What about insurance not covering this cost?”, “Why did you do this without me asking for it to be done?”, and “What is the point of locking the door after the burglars have left?”

By April 6th, the tarp they installed was ripped to shreds, and rain was falling in my house. They not only did an incompetent job, but they sent me a bill for $1,890.52 plus a $387.10 markup for their “expert” supervision.

On June 2nd I received another bill saying I owed another $5,090.03 with no clear explanation of what this is for. It appears to me that it is a percentage of the actual cash value of my house and it’s contents, yet there is nothing that says why it was earned. Further that bill explains that I was charged $256 for OSB plywood sheets that Home Depot sells for less than $11.

Blackmon Mooring may be excellent at cleaning carpets as their advertisements claim. But in dealing with house fires, they are ambulance chasers and experts in bill padding, questionable charges, and siphoning off money the victims need to repair their houses or otherwise get their lives back on track.

Claimed loss: $1890.52 paid for poor quality work and bill padding. They are also billing me for $5846.23 in unjustified charges, including a complete lack of description or any information what "product" was purchased for $5090.03 on their bill.

Desired outcome: Refund of amount paid for shoddy work covering my house with a tarp that didn't last even 5 days. Removal of the fees for work done after I told them that their services were no longer required.
