Failure to honor contracts
Let me warn you! I began working with American Book Writing in October 2021, without any experience in producing or marketing books. Three and a half years later I can tell you they are the most dishonest, unethical company I have ever seen. I spent well over $100k in three years. I had four project managers during that time and with each change I would be told you need to buy this platform in order for your grandson to be successful with his 11 Anime books. I have 30 signed agreements (for $5k, $10k, $15k, and even $20k), purchasing the platforms the PM’s said I needed in order to have success. At some point, you’ve spent too much to back out, and all the while, you’re being told it will pay off. My grandson’s payoff was less than $2000 in royalties during those three years. For the last $75,000 I spent I was told in writing that I would at least get my return on investment. Part of that is represented in the less than $2000 royalties I mentioned above. There were trips to Korea and UAE to get his books in the Asian market and to promote his film. I was told in June of 2024 that his film was in production. Everything suddenly came to a halt. The Project Manager assigned to the Asian market was either fired or not paid. Of the ten influencers I had agreed to, I remember knowing of only two that actually did anything.
I have so many stories like this. In fact, I was an investigator in my past life so I kept a chronology of all of the emails between me and ABW employees. I have direct evidence of 70-80% of my agreements not being accomplished. Upon discovering that, they offered a nonmonetary settlement. At first I decided to sign it because I had no other avenue except legal. They had said they would pay the expenses for a book fair they had scheduled my grandson to attend. They asked me to pay for his expenses and they would reimburse me. My grandson flew to San Diego to learn that ABW had canceled their booth and without telling him.
When they didn’t follow through with paying me for trip expenses for my grandson’s trip, I saw an attorney who wrote a Registered letter to the Chief of Operations, Ali K. Employees there are hesitant to give you full information such as Ali K’s last name or mailing address. The registered letter was returned to my attorney because apparently there are no employees at the Fillmore address in SF. My attorney also sent the letter by email to Ali K and to my then Project Manager. They both ignored it. I later tried to settle with what they first offered. Ali K, Chief of Operations, said we would settle, but asked if we could do it after the Christmas holidays. I agreed. He went into hiding after the holidays. He won’t answer emails or his telephone. Neither will the Project Manager I last had. It appears that ABW has evolved into a sort of “shadow organization” where they can ignore you if you have issues. There is the FCC and the Trust Pilot. I’ve written comments before on Trust Pilot but for some reason they seem to disappear.
Claimed loss: $100,000 in contracts not accomplished
Desired outcome: The settlement agreement the company first issued and a response by the Chief of Operations at American Book Writing.
