Alpine Lion Boerboels Products

Last winter, our beloved dog, Satchel went into kidney failure and we unexpectedly had to put him down. My husband and I loved the boerboel breed and began doing our research. We read great things about Alpine Lion Boerboels and their litter included the exact type of puppy we were looking for to join our family. We decided on the boy and were anxiously awaiting our new addition. However, due to the harsh winter we had to wait about a week longer. We got the puppy home and once we were able to get it out of the cage we noticed it was the wrong puppy. We wanted the boy and ended up with a girl. We immediately called Patrick, who at first did not believe us that he somehow sent the wrong puppy. He then realized his mistake and told us that his 12 year old son packaged the wrong dog at 3am because he was busy doing another shipment to Greece. He offered to pay for us to send the dog back, but we didn't want to put the puppy through more trauma as she was so scared to come out of her cage (it took about 40 minutes for her to feel comfortable). We were going to find another home for her, but once we got the boy, we ended up keeping both. We trained both puppies, took them to puppy classes and followed strict training. Everything was great up until about 8 months when they had their first fight - it was over some left over crumbs. As the months went on, each of the two dogs began to get more aggressive, especially towards our third and older dog. As we were raising them, we always made it very clear through training that our older dog, an American Bulldog was the #1 dog of the house. We called Patrick to see if had any insights on why all of a sudden the dogs behavior changed. He went on an aggressive texting rant, which he later took back once he realized he confused us with another client (red flag). Patrick offered no insight as to the change in the dogs behavior. On our end, we hired private police and security dog trainers to help with the dogs. The female was beginning to be scared of literally everything - the breeze, cars, toys, new objects in the house, trees..etc. We can't even get her to leave our house to try and take her for a walk. We did get her spayed, but that really didn't do anything to change her behavior. The boy also has some odd behavior issues. For example, when touching his side, he will growl and bark. He does the same if he is hurt and someone is trying to administer any medication/treatment. We got him neutered after a year once this behavior became more and more routine. Our trainers think that it may have to do with someone being too rough with him as a puppy prior to when we got him (i.e. breeder grabbing him and throwing him into the crate). Between the girl being scared and the boy becoming aggressive without warrant, I have some serious concerns about home Alpine Boerboel treats its puppies. These types of dogs should have a calm and friendly temperament and should not become aggressive when introduced to new people/dogs properly. We have done everything appropriately from training to socializing. After seeing some of the other reviews, its clear that Alpine Lion Boerboel's dogs are having issues which is also why they removed their 1 year guarantee off their website as well as any contact information. While we do love these dogs, it has made having them extremely difficult and costly. Collectively, we have spent about $10K on medical costs from their dog fights on each other and on our third dog and now with a baby, we are extremely concerned about the boy. Has anyone else seen this type of behavior in their boerboel's from Alpine Lion Boerboel?

Yeah...this has NOTHING to do with our dogs and their bloodlines. I'm sorry it doesn't. I'm sure blaming your TWO dogs adult behavior on a supposed 30 second puppy incident that never happened ("the behavior is from ...i.e. breeder grabbing him and throwing him into the crate) is simply ludicrous. It just is. There were 13 dogs in this litter. NONE exhibit these behaviors...but your two are somehow 'tainted' by US and or the bloodline or breed? This just doesn't jive. While I'd like to research it further? Your inability to even entertain that this MAY be a mistake made on YOUR end is glaring and leaves zero room for discussion or even logical conversation.
OF COURSE there is the 'possibility' it's something YOU did or didn't do...just common sense. Of course, maybe there IS something genetic going on. It IS very hard to tell with this type of behavior issue that only crops up in ONE home out of a large litter. The puppy? was certainly not abused on his shipping day creating a lifelong aggression issue...that's silly (and just a convenient place to put blame).
We never changed our policy to avoid anything with you or anyone else...our website is ARCHAIC and hasn't changed save to update pups in about 7 years. We HAVE recently adopted a more comprehensive 'guarantee' structure that is focused on being much more Mastiff breed specific if that's what you mean. However, that had NOTHING to do with your particular situation.
Sorry you felt that your adult dog (s) disposition is something we created on shipping day at 8 weeks old. But, we just don't find this plausible and would NEED the written trainer reports, an actual conversation with trainer making assessment. and a video of this supposed aggression to even begin to assess it (ALL of which of hasn't ever been provided). WE CAN'T GUESS AT IT.
We can assure you that BOTH of your dogs parents enjoy an aggression free life with other dogs, no fences, dog park excursions weekly and are raise freely around children of ALL ages and sizes and temperaments.
I am a Master Level Psychotherapist that uses these EXACT dogs in my work doing 'Canine Assisted Psychotherapy' with seniors and troubled youth. I wouldn't even consider putting you or anybody else knowingly in harms way. And I certainly wouldn't place (or produce) offspring from loose cannon dogs into society where it could do harm to a person or another animal.
WISH THIS COULD HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED PROPERLY WITH A PROTOCOL THAT COULD FIND THE CAUSE OF THE SYMPTOMS ...NOT MERELY SEEK TO ASSESS 'BLAME'...BUT ACTUALLY CARE FOR THE DOGS LIVES.

Alpine Lion Boerboels Customer service

I bought a dog from Patrick Hall, with Alpine Lion Boerboels recently. I was having the dog shipped to me, and Patrick was fine to deal with until I paid for the dog. He became very unprofessional and rude the moment he had my money. He took his time shipping me the dog. Patrick made him self clear when I asked when he would send the dog, he replied in a text, "I'll get to it when I can (or want)." I was not too happy with him and asked for a refund, so I could take my business elsewhere. He told me he would not be refunding me the $1000 "deposit" I placed on the pup. He stated in a text, "call a lawyer if you want to be a difficult ###!" I eventually received the dog. She is wonderful and I can't say anything bad about his product, but as a business man and professional, I can say he is awful! I would never do business with him again, and would never recommend him to anyone.

EXCELLENT DOG WAS RECEIVED ON TIME AT 8 WEEKS OLD!
CANNOT SHIP THEM BEFORE THAT TIME (OR IF WEATHER DICTATES OTHERWISE).
SOME FOLKS CAN'T ACCEPT THAT LIFE IS FLUID AND SOMETIMES YOU CANNOT CONTROL CERTAIN THINGS.
GREAT PUP...DIFFICULT CLIENT.
(unfortunately, only the negative responses make it online...but 3 complaints in 15 years when we've placed over 300 dogs worldwide in that time?...EXCEPTIONAL!)

Alpine Lion Boerboels Purchase

I have a 23 month old boerboel who is terrified of people, children, wind, trains, cars, garbarge trucks, other dogs, etc. I don't know why she has encounted these things before but you would never know it by her response. She has been nervous since I got her, when I picked her up from her breeder it appeared to me that she had never been out of a cardboard box area that was on a concrete slab. She completely went into herself when she was removed from her littermates and in my opinion she became a nervous, fearful dog. She has been exposed to other dogs (puppy socializing classes, doggie parks, the neighborhood, long walks, hikes, etc.) but she is not really that curious about them or things around her as it seems she just wants run from the sounds or to tear a dog up because she's afraid. I always get comments about how great she looks, or asked if it's ok to pet her, when she is approached she moves and hides behind me. What can I do?

She has been in 8 dog fights with 2 needing to be taken to the vet and each time she was the one who attacked first. I can't trust her and I don't like the fact that she's afraid of everything. Have you ever encountered such a dog and what did you do.

I purchased a dog from alpine lion boerboels. She is now 7 years old. Sire was Beast and [censored] was ninja so technically she is what was called an “African mastino”? She turned 7 last month and is a wonderful dog with a beautiful temperment. She is small in size at only 75 pounds but stunning to look at with a blue/grey coat. Can’t go 1 block without being stopped to ask about her. Loves children, hates squirrels! Patrols the yard and walks off leash all over Marin county.
Best dog ever

I have not purchased a Boerboel from here. I had one fall in my lap that came from somewhere else and the pup appeared to have some issues with his back legs. I do not really know anything about the breed, and so I researched to find somebody that did know, and so I called and spoke with Patrick Hall. I asked for advice, and he was so nice and helpful. He is very passionate and knowledgeable about the breed. He even told me to call if I have any other questions or concerns. Let me repeat again that I DID NOT purchase a puppy from him, and he was still willing to help me as much as he could. He was very friendly and very willing to help. If I were to purchase a Boerboel in the future, I definitely feel comfortable purchasing from Alpine. If he is willing to offer help to some random person calling who never got a puppy from him, I am positive that he would provide a lot of support and guidance to a buyer. Through our conversation, I could clearly see how passionate he is about all of his dogs and puppies and the breed itself. He really helped me a lot.

I don’t have a complaint, rather I’m sad I quit my Counter Insurgency gig prior to buying a female from Patrick I couldn’t afford the fee and so I paid for a Boerboel in Italy who initially had elbow problems as a result I had her spayed and now still need a female to breed with Thor I think he was named Magnus. Thoragnus is THE SINGLE MOST AWESOME BLACK AFRICAN MASTIFF On the planet! He is so well trained, congenial and astute it’s uncanny. He is so sensitive to my mood and that of our family and yes he does fight with the Boerboel fawn [censored] I bought but mostly rough play that inadvertently gets them injured but on the whole a outstanding Dog. If I had the money I would buy Thor a breeding female tonight. Emotion is unavoidable but communication in a calm constructive manner is all important and I think Patrick is capable of that type of communication. Sorry I used this medium to praise Alpine Lions but no one would have read it otherwise.

**IN RESPONSE**
Hello this is Patrick Hall Owner/Operator of Alpine Lion Boerboels LLC. I have been reading these complaints that have been levied over the span of 7 years and I count only TWO folks with dogs that had health issues. In our defense (or response) I would offer that these cases were folks whose anger and frustration reached such a fever pitch that we were UNABLE to continue communications to remedy these situations. These dogs are our family members and they quickly become that of our clients. When a family member is stricken or otherwise afflicted with a negative condition...emotions run HIGH. We ALWAYS seek to remedy ANY condition we feel may have its origin genetically (or otherwise). However, we DO ask for vet reports, videos of symptoms, and any other pertinent information to make a final decision regarding puppy replacement and just to have the information to support any claims. Also, so we can seek to eliminate any genetic issues if they are there.
Now, in the 25 years our family has been breeding Mastiff dogs we have NEVER once had a client admit that a disease or condition may have begun with them...it's ALWAYS the "breeders fault". With this, we have to assess the situation accordingly and take emotion out of it and get to the root of the issue or complaint. This causes some to feel abandoned and that we don't care or are callous. We are not. We have NEVER sold a dog that we knowingly had health issues and do not breed with dogs that knowingly have health issues...EVER.
Also, I would like to point out a FACT(s):
1) If you have a NEGATIVE buying experience you post it all over the web.
2) If you have a POSITIVE buying experience you remain silent.
(we also sell to many celebrities that remain anonymous so you'll never hear from them)
IN OVER 15 YEARS WE HAVE PLACED OVER 300 PUPS (OR ADULTS) WORLDWIDE!
...WE CAN COUNT OUR NEGATIVE REPORTS?...ON ONE HAND!
THESE ARE INCREDIBLE PERCENTAGES AND WE ARE ACTUALLY QUITE PROUD OF THEM!

**IN RESPONSE TO MY ATTITUDE**:
I'm human and i'm a bit eccentric some may say. I AM very knowledgeable and passionate about dog breeding and have been breeding Mastiff dogs since I was 12 and i'm 52 years old. I can come across as 'coarse' or even rude I guess to some. A phenomenon we do see is that while folks are purchasing their dog they many demands which we address. Once the dog is actually purchased we have very little time to put together an exorbitant amount of work to get the pup sent off promptly and properly. During this shipping and planning week our communications suffer a bit (or should I say the constant attention and answering all questions diminishes...accordingly). This OFTEN creates the sense that "now that we're paid?...we don't care". Actually, we DO care and now have to place all that attention and care to the actual live animal and not the clients needs (creating a false sense of abandonment).
I also, have several other positions in life
1) I am Master Level Clinical Social Worker (LMSW) Psychotherapist that works with troubled children in conjunction with the dogs.
2) I have a Masters Degree in Business Administration and can apparently come off as 'conceited' when talking about business. Something i'm working on and not an intended result of my education. Again, my apologies.
3) I am a Professional Stand Up Comedian (THIS can and should possibly explain some of the missed communications or feelings that I wasn't being serious...for this I apologize).

I have been doing my research and I really want a black male boerboel and was thinking of getting one from alpine but after what I am reading is there any serious inbreeding going on? To read about all these health problems and dog fights and killing other dogs is quit serious. Can you please give me more intel before I put a deposit? It sounds like they may not be easy to deal with but their website says the opposite

I just found this site. Don't do it. Take your money elsewhere. You'll probably get a better dog straight from a breeder in South Africa for the same price and it'll include shipping. I bought a female from Alpine, breeding quality female from him December 2012. Never actually bred her but I loved her. My girl just died at the age of 4 from liver failure and white blood cell lymphoma, December 17, 2016. She was only 4! Before she died she had skin issues, raised bumps on her skin, fur falling out in patches, skin sores that oozed blood. I should've known something was up when he told me the mother ate all of the puppies but mine.

I have purchased 2 pups from Patrick from different litters. One dog is now 13 months old difficult has killed 1 dog been in 6 dog fights, but I love her. The other dog is 10 months old has a temperament to die for. Easy going loving kind. She sadly is not particularly sound but the fault is all mine. She was sadly trampled by a horse at 2 months old. Patrick was a little difficult on shipping of first pup but other than that pretty normal. I love my Boerboels they are both black females and would go through the process again
