I first played this game online without downloading and really enjoyed it. My mom and I played it together and couldn’t believe how quickly and accurately it could guess even the most obscure characters! Really makes it feel like it’s reading your mind.

Unlike most 20 questions type games, you don’t get bored after a few trials. The rarer the character you were able to think of, the cooler the prizes you get! The more you play, the more coins you earn to customize the cute little genie guy. There’s an endless amount of characters, animals, movies, and media to guess from, and the questions are extremely varied and interesting.

It’s fun for all ages if you put on the handy child lock as well, which blocks out and adult questions, characters, or movies. Easy to navigate and settings are clear. I like it!

Only complaint is the ads, which you can buy away. There’s no ads while you’re playing, which is considerate, but after every game there’s a video ad and a pop up ad before you start a game (usually). To “unlock” rare guesses (essentially when you make the Akinator guess a rare character and he guesses it right) they make you either take a survey or watch a thirty second unskippable ad. It’s a little bit annoying, but for the whole game it’s not a big deal. If you really hate it, it only costs three bucks to get rid of them permanently.

Overall a really fun timewaster. With coronavirus ruling the world right now, it can be hard to find things to do. I’m on my phone a lot nowadays, so having a couple games like Akinator is always fun for taking your mind off things for a little while. Five stars!

All games have flaws at one point or another, but there are a couple I wish to point out

1st being the system of making a rare character (black or platinum). The rating itself is good currently, but I personally believe it should be based on how many times the character was guessed and not how long ago it was last guessed, because there are scenarios where characters that were guessed less than 10 times aren’t even golds, while some characters that have been guessed 100+ times are blacks. This system could be confusing for the average player, and it has been judging by the other reviews.

Another is a newly added character. A couple of character suggestions I created (can name specifics if need be) randomly disappear as I go for them. I’m not sure if this is intended in order to prevent creations of fake characters, but either way, it’s just strange. Oddly enough, this situation also coincides with the situation I listed above where characters guessed less than 10 times end up being less than gold, because each time this happened, it was with a character I suggested.

Apart from these two issues, the AI itself is coded nicely but is also repetitive. Not a bad thing if you’re going for a specific character, but is a bad thing if you change the character you go for each time. And there’s a surprising amount of super rare characters throughout this game. I thought it would’ve been near impossible to get a black character, but I ended up getting 9 in just a few days. This makes the goal of getting tons of blacks not out of possibility, which I believe is great with these kind of games.

Overall, very addicting app and I strongly recommend it.

I’ve been playing this game as a way to try it out through the first few months and long the way I have seen the concept of the game: you think of a character and then you answer the questions the genie asks to see if he can guess who you’re thinking of. Depending on how long ago someone tried to try this person out and the genie guessing it on the first try will be the type of metal you get. I actually find that idea really interesting but the thing is the flaws which actually ruin the fun of the game is why I have to say downloading it isn’t worth it and here are the reasons why:
-ads pop up every time he guesses a character or if you back out to the mark menu and the only way to fix that is to make you pay for VIP
- After a certain amount of time I started getting “cheat” metals even though the person was correct, and they in fact did exist and were a real person, this can ruin the game because if you keep on getting cheat metals your rank goes down, and even if the metal for it was high, even though it verifies that you already guessed it, you don’t get the metal
-that if the genie has issues trying to guess your character or can’t really get a clue of what you’re talking about, it’ll give a response of “a person who answers randomly” which can be insulting if you’re trying a person that many might not know about or you’re wanting to try to get them
Now I could be inaccurate, but we all as consumers download a game for the fact of enjoyment, and liking the idea of it but, if there’s problem with the game that won’t let them enjoy it properly or it won’t even be accurate at times with what you’re trying to get him to guess, than I feel like the game isn’t worth having

alright its great and everything but they are so slow adding new charicters.their is this one guy called knox from dragon watch and i got my first and only black belt for him because no one else had done him in six years or something.anyway he has a sister named tess who i played but it guessed any from magic tree house!Please get better at adding new charecters.Another small and understandable thing is that it is not perfect at knowing the diference between two simalar charecters, for examplein wings of fire quibli who the tenth book is about has two brothers,sirocco and ratlesnake but when i play it only ever guesses one of them.In hindsight that is understandable considering that they are exactly alike.one more thing that i am not complaning about but is probably not suposed to happen is that the intire dragon watch series gives silver gold platinum and even black awards every time.finaly their are some series that just arent their at all.for example one of the best series i have ever read the path of the ranger series,is not even on the radar as far as charecters are conserned.I played the main charecter in that thing (Lasgol) And it thought i was doing some guy i forgot the name of and the second time it thought i was doing "Caderly something rather" whoerver the heck that is.I think that it is understandable that you had the first few things because you can't have people from every sereis everywhere and for the second one the charecters are exactly alike but the third one i really do find inexcussable.most people would probably give you a three star or something for those issues but when you put it into perspective you did a lot more things right than wrong and made one of my all time favorite games so good job.

Okay I love Akinator and it is a great app and there is a leaderboard of when the Genie guesses your object if your object was rare (not often asked) you get a better spot on the leaderboard. There are several modes which include TV/Movie, Characters (celebrities, movie characters book characters, etc.), animals, and objects. One thing that bugs me about the animal mode is that I can explain a really rare animal that not a lot of people have guessed (eg. Dumbo octopus) and still get a standard award, which is unsettling :( character mode is really fun but I'm not a big movie fan or celebrity fan bc I only literally watch Harry Potter and listen to Kpop, so you know... object mode is my FAVORITE! It is so much fun and addicting, I use up all my screen time on this app although, the genie is so good at guessing your character/movieTV/object/animal it's CREEPY like it's almost like they can see through your camera to see what your watching or the objects around you?! But after all, Before i got this app i would steal my friends phone and play it on hers lol I even reccomended this app to my sister now she plays it on her work breaks! Very fun and addicting, it's a big deal I got my sister to get it bc we are like 8 years apart so we have much different taste lol. I'll give it a four star bc I love the app but there are some flaws but like no app is perfect... sometimes when you guess a rare object you have to take a survey or watch an ad (there are choices between survey and ad) but sometimes the ad doesn't load so I have to loose my progress so I have to let go of the rare object :(
P.S. there is a child filter which I recommend for ages whatever-14 bc some things can get REALLY gross- lol THANK U FOR READING THIS BAi

This app use to be amazing a few years ago, it would guess literally any character from anything, it was so spot on and accurate that it was almost creepy, I would often pull it out at parties to show people.

I got a new phone and haven’t had the app in years but decided to try it again, I noticed that some of the small features that were kind of neat such as when the app would tell you how many other people used that character were been removed.

I also noticed that the app wasn’t really that accurate anymore, it use to ask you about 20 questions then boom! It got your character but now it ask me like 10 questions then guesses waaaay too early and it’s not even close... it’s seriously like “ is it a boy? Does he have hair? Does he have legs? Ok it’s this guy!”

What really killed this app for me though was the newly implemented monetization, someone at a party had a cool app that he was showing off so I was like “I have something too!” I quickly downloaded Akinator and opened it and got everyone’s attention and told them pick a character , then after all the anticipation the app begins to guess my character and boom! I get hit with “you’ve discovered a VIP character! To unlock his name and image you must have a VIP subscription” I could not believe it... you’re app does ONE thing...ONE! And you inhibited it’s absolute to do the only this it does with a pay wall...seriously? That’s the worst implementation of paywall I’ve seen, pay walls are supposed to be between the user and extra features so if they like the app they can invest a little into it and get more out of it... you don’t put a pay wall right in the middle of your apps core function... because of this alone I’m deleting the app, I suggest you guys go back to the build from 3 years ago because the current build just got laughed at at a party full of potential customers... good job.

This AI used to be so accurate it was scary. It would get the character every time if there was any public knowledge no matter how obscure.

Now, it’s completely broken. It will literally forget questions that you have already answered if it guesses incorrectly more than once. For example, I was thinking of Rodney Morash from Grand Theft Auto: London 1969. This character, while obscure, does exist in the Akinator database, as he comes up when typing the name at the end after being unable to guess.

I answered the questions “is your character from the GTA franchise” and “do you control your character” both yes. So after that, it should be able to narrow down to only GTA protagonists. Then I answer no to all of the questions that should have narrowed it down. Not Italian, not American, does not live with his cousin, etc. and the first guess will always be a GTA protagonist that doesn’t fit the answers I have given, despite having the character and the correct answers to reach it listed in the database.

Then, after guessing incorrectly the first time, despite having all of the information it needs to guess the correct character (is he British, does he wear a suit, does he wear glasses, etc.) it will start guessing characters that are not even protagonists, and then it will start asking questions that obviously contradict information I have already previously given, like “is your character from the call of duty franchise”, and it will start guessing characters that have nothing to do with Grand Theft Auto.

Keep in mind this is only one recent example. I have had a similar experience many times in the last two years or so with many characters. So unfortunately, something has completely broken the algorithm or I guess it hasn’t been maintained. The app is not nearly what it used to be, and it used to be really cool. I really hope it will be fixed some day.

I love Akinator! It's very accurate. You can think any movie or tv show character, and it will ask you yes or no questions about that character, and you can answer with yes, no, don't know, probably, or probably not. When you are done answering questions, it will guess the character. When it shows you the picture of that person, the name, and what they are from, it will have yes or no at the bottom. If you say yes, it means they guessed that character right and you can try to answer questions about another character. If you hit no, that means they guessed the character wrong, and they will ask you if you continue answering questions about that same character until they get that character right, or if you want to just think about a different character. Remember, you can think about any character ever. Whether they've been on tv, been in comics, books in general, a video game you really like, or if that character is a real person from your friend group, or they are your family, or if they don't know you, or if they know you, but they aren't really considered your friend. Any character at all. It maybe works on TikTokers. It works with YouTubers because it will ask you if your character is a YouTuber. You can also change the theme, and you can be thinking about a movie or tv show that you like and it will do the same things it does for characters. You can think about objects too. There is another thing I'm pretty sure that you can change it to, but I'm not really sure. It is really good at guessing the characters and stuff. When it tells you what character it's thinking of, it will tell you the name of the character, what the character is from, and it will show you a picture of the character. When I first saw it, I thought it only worked with Disney characters, because I was at my friend's house when I played this, and she was like, "Tell me a Disney character" and she explained what the game was. It is incredibly fun! I will admit, there were a couple times when they got the characters wrong, but if that were me in this game, I would get them all wrong. You should definitely get this game! It is so amazing! I wish I could rate it more stars. I love it so much! It's also safe for children. I was playing this game and I got a rare character but when I got in the ad it started to stop and then resume, but kinda crashed when it said “learn more” because the X button wasn’t working and I could not get Aki award so I had to swipe out of the app and I couldn’t get the aki award, I would give it a 4.5 stars but for some reason I can’t, also I have 3 gold but online ( I think it’s online where people can see your characters you’ve guessed and see the gold, platinum, and black.) it says that I have 2 gold and I actually have 3, same for platinum and bronze, it says that I have 0 platinum and bronze, it makes it confusing, because when it says that someone else has 0 platinum, gold and bronze and I have 5 bronze and 2 gold it makes it confusing for me to understand if someone else has like, 7 platinum or something and online it shows that they have 0 platinum and they are above someone that has 3 platinum, it’s confusing, also in the thing that only shows three players and each one has gold, platinum, or black, when I got gold and it was there, it was only there for 10 seconds and then it changed ( This is not something that I hate it makes sense.) Its been a few days since I got these game and I love it! It’s great and there’s some things I hate but, it’s one of my favorite games, this part is edited but I want to say that when I was guessing Alex from Minecraft, I got a valid thing that penalized me, I didn’t care about the penalize, but I didn’t get any gold, ( I mean the money for the clues and the outfits.) also, I’m a kid who is scared of scary stuff and I pressed the no button on accident instead of pressing the yes button and I got a scary photo. (I don’t wanna say who it was but I’m not sure if it was a video or a photo because it had a thing that a video had.) Also before it showed that scary photo it said “You didn’t fell for the trick!” Or something like that and then it showed the scary photo, I tried this on a different phone and I guessed Olivia from paper Mario the origami king and I didn’t get a valid thing, instead I got a standard, my thing is that how do you know if you randomly guessing, I only press the yes just for the gold but it makes the game unfun because you can’t even do the main thing you do, get aki awards, you probably can’t even get the daily aki awards, (I don’t know because I had got all the daily aki awards.) Edit: Akinator is kicking me out, I have a lot of storage so it can’t be that.

So hello, I used to play this app/game when I was like 7 but now I’m older, and I decided “How bout I re-download Akinator?!” So obviously I re-downloaded it and I didn’t like it let me tell you what I didn’t like about it… I don’t like that when you are trying to figure out one of the characters and it says randomly “Yay you found a rare character!” And then it makes you do a survey, buy it, or watch a video. I thought this would be a fun game/app but no. I thought about buying it but that is just stupid (also my parents won’t let me do it because that’s stupid and it is not worth my money)! Please remove it! Because I’m removing this app/game, so you aren’t getting my money! I mean literally V.I.P is $3.99! Y’all are crazy if you think that is a good deal for a game! But I would give this zero stars if I could but that is apparently against app store’s policy! So I want to say one more thing...

Now the good part of Akinator...
He does guess it, but it’s not some weird Harry Potter magic it just plain out common since! I mean it is really fun and good but I don’t want to have to watch a video or buy somethin stupid just for a game/app. Thank you for your time and I hope you review my review haha, I’m sorry if I was a little to mean but I’m just speakin out my words and my thoughts! Some more suggestions that are basically the same of what I was saying before...
So I really liked this game along time ago (aka when I was seven), and I thought it was fun! When I saw the video to download it, it looked the same and I was really happy! But when I downloaded it... it was way way way different then the video! I suggest that

1. You should change out the video and picture! It will help you get some better reviews and also more people playing the game/app!

2. Make the price lower! It will help you get more nice reviews! Also it would be so so so nice if you could just make it free like it was when I was seven!

And 3. When it says “You got a rare character!” You should make it so you get a better belt! And also make it so it’s not random it gets borin like that! I mean I got a Minecraft chicken as a rare character! And then I got Annie Gracie Leblanc! Guess which one he got correct? I have an idea instead of having the “Yay you got a rare character!” You should just get rid of it! I don’t know anybody who would like to spend $3.99 on a V.I.P thingy! So y’all I think y’all should take my suggestions and also a lot of other people suggestions! It will really improve the game and let other people have great experiences! I hate writing reviews like this so let’s hope the next one will be a very great one for this app/game and I have one more thing to say… Buh byeeeee!

I want to start by saying that this is an amazing game. For the average person just getting this to see if it can guess the obscure little character you have on your head, go for it. It’s awesome and it WILL impress you. It has a really cool daily point leaderboard that you can attempt to climb by guessing more obscure characters. I’ve spent more time doing this than I world like to admit. That being said, there is one issue with its cheat detection system that has done me over in one of my attempts at first place on its competitive leaderboard. Before you read the rest of this review, please note that it is a well conceived and well built detection system that does a good job of keeping people from just answering questions randomly in the hopes of getting an uncommon character they didn’t even know of. It works through a validity trap mechanic, which will place a fake answer in place of the real one every now and then. The issue I have experienced only comes about with extremely obscure characters (or at least ones that the system has hardly had any exposure to). Other than this issue, this is a perfect game.

If you’re just here to download the goofy character-guessing game to see if it really knows your character, go right ahead, and ignore the next segment of this review. But if you have any interest in the competitive side of it, I would implore you to just read and try to understand why such a small issue would annoy one in such a way that it annoyed me. I normally don’t leave reviews, yet this one made me feel the need to. I will repeat one more time though, that this is a well made game, and that the people behind it have worked hard to make a fun, fair, and well-built system.

Now, I have played this game quite a bit, and I have enjoyed it. But it’s validity trap mechanic, though a good idea and implemented with good intent, needs work, at least with more obscure/lesser known characters. I’ve had twice now in one day that it has incorrectly accused me of cheating, thusly screwing over my attempt at reaching first on the daily leaderboard. Lately I have been describing almost exclusively characters from Skyrim, and two of these characters have given it issues. The first were the dogs Bran and Sceolang, from the Dawnguard DLC. The second was coincidentally the armored troll from the same DLC. With both of these characters, I had already had to try to guess them upwards of ten times, and had begun to answer specific questions more vaguely in an attempt to get the system to avoid selecting more common characters, because the system will see one question answered in a way that would point to the more popular characters, and just jump to that character without giving you a chance to answer any questions that would allow you to get the desired character. In the dogs’ case, it was the dog Meeko, another dog compassion from the same game. In the armored troll’s case, it would see the question “has this character killed humans” after some other descriptor questions that would point towards a troll, and promptly jump straight to the ice troll character without even giving you a chance to try for the more specific troll. This would not be nearly as bad, but it blatantly displays the armored troll as another option as soon as it guesses the first time and you refuse more guesses/questions. On top of that, the one time it displayed the armored troll, it had the AUDACITY to do so as a trap. It had genuinely been the character I was assuming for, and as soon as I said it was my character, the system spat a “you are being punished for cheating” message in my face. It did the same thing with the dogs, finally displaying the correct character, but only as a trap. I had not answered any questions untruthfully in terms of whether they applied to the character or not. Again, I may have been selecting the “probably/probably not/I’m not sure” answers from time to time to try and get the system to stray away from the more popular characters, but none of them were flat out wrong.

I understand that cheating is an issue and that it should be dealt with, and that for something such as this it must be pretty difficult to nail down cheaters without a system like this, but the fact that it wrongfully accused me TWICE within a day has led me to delete the app.

I also understand that it is meant to be a challenge to get the system to guard more obscure characters, but the fact that there is a possibility for you to LOSE POINTS to a fault in a cheat detection system is beyond infuriating when aiming for the top. On the daily board for today I was ranked fifth worldwide, and upon the second incident it docked points and hurt my standing. I have not played untruthfully and have played too much Skyrim for me to get these characters confused. I know this is a small issue that only affects those competing for the leaderboards, and that it isn’t helped when you’re describing characters that are so rarely heard of/thought of that the system often probably doesn’t have full descriptions of them, but the fact that it messed me up twice within one of the 24-hour leaderboard periods was extremely infuriating.

Though it’s amazing to stroll down memory lane with this app, there are some key issues that seem to be overlooked by the masses of these reviews.

1. There are far too many ads. An ad every time you’re sent back to the homepage is just a tad bit outrageous. I understand that money needs to be made, but there should be at least a bit more care with the placement.

2. I’ve been coming up with family friendly characters and objects, yet it’s telling me that the content I’ve chosen isn’t allowed or supported in the app even after turning the filter off which is.. odd..

3. There are premium characters and objects and such? Where you have to watch an ad just for him to guess.. or buy the upgraded version.. it’s almost like the app is doing everything in its power just to not give you the win..

And that’s just it.. this app seems to not want you to get the win as much as I thought it did at first. It won’t allow me to see some of the guesses without paying some sort of price, or it all out just won’t guess some of the easiest things at all.

A trip down memory lane.. but a poorly executed one.

Look, this app is pretty cool. It’s impressive and whatnot. Sure, there are WAY too many ads, but it’s still fun to mess with for a few minutes.
The problem comes when you check out the gameplay. The game encourages you to try to think of obscure characters. This would be fine, but when the game doesn’t recognize the characters, you don’t get any points. Not only that, but if the AI can’t figure out what character you’re going for on the first guess, it doesn’t give you any points. So when you actually manage to stump the AI, the game doesn’t give you anything. On top of this, the game has started giving players trick answers. Basically, the game gives the wrong answer to your character to see if your game is valid. This is super annoying. It happens too frequently, and on too many low point answers.
The questions are often repetitive to an annoying level. The game will ask me if the character is from America (yes) and right after ask me if the character is from India (dude, were you even listening?)
The genie is also kind of ugly. It’s annoying to have to look at the same ugly face despite customization options.

So I read through many reviews and it looks like there have been some fixes to the complaints mentioned. I noticed you can choose to watch an ad to reveal the vip character rather than having to pay to reveal. There were some other problems people brought up that I can also relate to.

However, as much as I was enjoying this game, there are 2 reasons I am giving it a 1 star review, because it kills the appeal for me. I like the trophy system because it invites you to think of the most obscure characters and you want the genie to figure them out. What kills it for me is that if the genie did not make the correct guess on the first attempt you don’t get the trophy. You cannot play through it again to get it as the first attempt. It remembers and you still can’t get the trophy, and because of that I missed out on a bronze.

Now the bigger problem I had was I was playing through (my character was Minccino) and he got it on the first attempt. Though instead of being rewarded the silver trophy, it told me it had to be the first attempt. IT WAS THE FIRST ATTEMPT. And now I can’t get that silver!

Why am I gonna keep playing if I’m not going to be properly rewarded?

Ok so, the app, in question is fun, maybe for an adult. Here are my reasons...

When you first get the app it tells you that in order to play, you have to turn on your microphone, camera and location. What? Is this so that he can stalk you. I don’t know, it just kinda feels like something... or someone is watching you.

Number 2, something very scary was shown. Something that I have a little bit of PTSD about. It’s a picture of a really scary woman named Momo. I’m not kidding. Momo scares me and it will scare you. Momo will give you nightmares.

Number 3, very inappropriate. It asks things such as:
“Is it have something to do with sex?”
“Does your character work in the sex industry?”
“Are they a porn actor?”
I would not like to have my child introduced to this. (And yes, child mode was on.)

Number 4, the genie accuses you of cheating. And I do not cheat! Not in any way, shape or form!

Number 5: money scam. Once you get to a specific character he will make you pay 4 dollars! ( yes I know it’s $3.99. I was just rounding.) He will also make you pay for stupid VIP mode.

Number 6: TO MANY GLITCHES. You can’t even get in the app sometimes.

1.) You need to require Wi-Fi to play this game. This also enables you to share your games. So what if I don't want to share it with my friends?

2.) Can you at least tone down the pop up ads? It's getting very annoying, and they may not match my age. Don't bother asking me to do in-app purchases, because I'm tired of spending money.

3.) Higly inappropriate questions! Excuse me, I am 13 years old!

4.) Too many scary pictures, even though I never seen them on this app. Sorry, scary picture fans, but I am autistic, which means I don't like them. Sorry, I know that sounds lame, folks.
