On 9/18/2025 I called AAA to have my 2013 Hyundai Elantra towed via the instructions of my insurance (USAA Auto Insurance) company. The customer service agent verified my membership and asked me for the address where I needed my car towed to. She assured me that the tow would be fully covered and gave me an estimated time for the arrival of the Tow driver. About 30 minutes later, the tow truck and driver from Muller Tow company arrived at my home address to tow my vehicle. The tow driver verified with me the address of where my car would be towed to. After the tow driver loaded my car and left, I called the location to inform them that my vehicle was on its way. The company informed me that my vehicle was actually supposed to go to another one of their locations and that they didn't have room to take my vehicle at the present location. I called the tow driver and let him know. He assured me that he had no problem taking my vehicle to the correct location but that he needed to contact AAA to have the drop off location changed.
I got a phone call a little while later from Julie from Mullers Tow company requesting a payment of $367.00. I inquired why I was being asked for a payment from a covered service via AAA. Julia informed me that AAA explained to her that AAA does not tow to salvage yards and that a payment of $67.00 will be needed from me to drop off my vehicle.
I'm curious to know why the AAA customer service representative set up my car to be towed without informing me of this cost versus saying that the tow would be covered. I could have gotten cheaper tow service with another company.
I would like to be reimbursed for the $367.00 that I should not have had to pay and would not have paid had I been informed of the cost to have my car towed to a salvage yard. I would like the matter to be resolved expeditiously. Thanks in advance for looking into this matter.
