My sister purchased a $100 gift card for my daughter on 12/10/2019 in Bend Oregon (store # 5086512) and gave it to her on 12/25 as a christmas gift. We just tried to redeem the card on 3/15/2019 and was told it had a zero balance. The PIN was scratched off in the car right before we went into the store. There was no chance we had already redeemed it and didn't remember or that my sister gave us an empty card. I called the gift card customer service line and was told the balance was redeemed in Canada (store # 51672) on 12/22/2018!
Clearly this is inofrmation fraud. I called the store and spoke with the manager, who was nicer than the cashiers. She offered me a coupon, but that was all she could do. I called the main customer service line and was told that I should give the card back to my sister who should locate the receipt and call the police.
All in all VS did not accept responsibility for the information breach issue. They did not offer to investigate the trail associated with the gift card and did not bat an eye at the fact that the card was purchased in the US and redeemed in another country. I believe the theft was attributable to an information breach or unsecured information pertaining to gift cards, either internally with VS employees or somehow a hacker manufactured a card with the same GC number and PIN so that the funds could be redeemed for merchandise at a store in Canada!
Either way I would not trust Victoria Secret with monetary information until they acknowledge they are vulnerable to information hacking and honor the sale of stolen gift card funds. Your credit card, gift card and personal information is clearly unsafe in their system.
I canceled my credit card with them and will not be spending any money there until something changes with their security and customer service. As far as I am concerned they are complicit in theft. I will also tell everyone I know this story. VS needs to feel the hurt of revenue loss in order to treat their customers fairly. This is not a proactive way to conduct business in our information age.
