KinderCare Education - daycare

My husband is in the Air Force and after being recently deployed I decided to move in with my parents in Ashburn, VA with my two and a half year old son. Up until this point we had been using the daycare on base, which we loved, but living in Ashburn was too far to make the commute every day.

After looking at a couple of daycare centers we chose Kindercare on Waxpool Rd. At first it seemed fine and it was reasonably priced compared to other centers, but now I know why.

There were a few minor incidents such as he had a scratch under his eye and they couldn't tell me what happened, his shoes would be on the wrong feet when I picked him up, and he was noticeably more hungry at dinner time. But none of these compared to the final incident.

I dropped my son off on Thursday morning and everything was fine. I returned at 4:30 that afternoon to find my son in his classroom with the entire left side of his face bruised, swollen, and cut in multiple places. I was so shocked at first I couldn't even make words come out of my mouth. They told me he slipped during water play and fell on the cement, however I do not believe this at all. The rest of his body is perfectly fine, it looks more like he ran or was pushed into the brick wall or was hit with something.

I asked them multiple times why they never picked up the phone to call me as my son sat in class with his face like that for 6 hours. The director of the daycare told me she didn't think his condition "warranted an emergency phone call". I was so upset and mad that they left my child sitting like that for so long, not knowing if he had any fractures, a concussion, or any other serious injury.

There are many things wrong with this situation, but mostly I see it as neglect. They clearly didn't see what happened, and if they did they don't want to tell me, and they didn't call me or any of the emergency contacts listed. I immediately enrolled my son in a new daycare. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone!

I'm sorry, but if my kid had been injured like that with no phone calls or explanation, I would not be on the internet on a complaints site. I would have my kid at the ER, getting a medical evaluation, and then at a lawyer's office and reporting them to the department of children's servives.
